It seems long enough to me. If I was complaining about VFM, it would be that it feels more like DLC for the first game than something actually new. Despite all the bells and whistles, it just feels old.

I think the campaign of the first one was a bit longer but I definitely would have shaved off a few missions from that game tbh.

I burned out on assassins creed, so I even found the first game a bit stale and this one barely iterates on the core gameplay at all, the thing youre doing 90% of the time. The map is a bit bigger, sure, but youre still just swinging around after icons and picking up a thing or doing a mini-game.
I also find some of the changes regressive. To equalise the characters, the suits are worse and less exciting, the gadgets are worse and less usefull because you have fairly useless powers...
I dunno, its good. The main story missions are cool and I dont mind being led by the nose through a rollercoaster. I'm just finding everything else a bit boring.

I'm also having the problem I mentioned a few pages back in that I dont find the leads sympathetic at all and find myself agreeing with JJJ's podcast when he chimes in after the Spider-Men blow up another pier.

I think the campaign of the first one was a bit longer but I definitely would have shaved off a few missions from that game tbh. according to How Long to Beat the main stories are about the same length, 16-17 hours. Lots more filler side missions in the first one though, 35 hrs for platinum compared with about 25hrs for 2. I like that they trimmed out a lot of that map icon faff this time. The only main mission in this one where I thought FFS more of this? was where they threw in the second MJ stealth section near the end.

Not sure how far in we are, only started at the weekend but we were at 13% according to the save file when we started playing last night (I assume that is main story, not all side quests).
Absolutely loving it so far. The big set pieces are suitably epic and the combat is tight (though I haven't got parry down yet). The webwings are a great addition and add to the fun just swinging about.
My partner likes to keep the main story ticking along, and so when she is playing often goes for the next main marker. I just like building up speed and flying round the map, stopping off at anything we find along the way.
Had an absolutely delightful moment last night. Was swinging through the city, going at full pace. Spotted some goons on a roof top about the same height as me, so swung round a couple of buildings to get some extra height and flung myself in their direction. Popped up above them, spotted a couple of the drone/bird things, web yanked to the first, gave it a few hits, threw it at the other, yanked to that and destroyed it. Dropped to the floor, took out the dogs with specials, dispatched the rest of them with dome dodge/hit combos and throwing them into each other before they got a hit in. It all came together in one fluid motion and I was grinning from ear to ear.
I can see myself Platinuming this.

I think it's fair to say this livens up towards the end!

Finished the mainline missions today and...it's ok.
It's a weird one. It kept throwing new stuff at you as the game progresses, but it's all nothing you haven't seen before. I've really enjoyed Insomniac's games, and this really did feel like more of the same. Very typical fare for them, and very very typical for the spider-man games specifically.
I think calling it boring is a bit harsh, but tbh I was was really willing it to be over by the end. Also there were way too many boss fights which were way too similar to each other, and it kept doing the "ah you think you've depleted the enemy health bar, now it's just another stage" thing too much.

It's very comfortable stuff. I've mopped up pretty much everything as I've gone and a lot was on auto pilot from the other games. It's pretty compulsive stuff but the wow moments have been fairly few, though I've loved the last couple of hours.

I'm about 65% through the game and at between story missions with no other icons on the map, every single pedestrian is stood completely still and not walking around. Cars are all at a standstill and there is very little background noise...feels very PS2 like all of a sudden. Quit and came back and nothing has changed...

Yeah my only criticism was I did find a fair few bugs during my playthrough which I don't remember much from the previous games or Ratchet and Clank to be fair.

I'm just about to finish it and maybe had 5 occasions where either I've got stuck in a building or scenery, or the last thing I have to kill has.

Yeah I've had a couple of times I couldn't finish a mission because the last enemy had fallen through the map or got stuck inside geometry. I also managed to get stuck falling through the bottom of the map when Sandman is chasing you in the first 5 mins, not a good start,
The dialogue scene where my head was missing was fun too...

Yeah, it’s pretty buggy. I’ve had to reload a checkpoint quite a few times just to get the ‘move on to the next thing’ prompts to appear.
Weird graphics bugs, things spawning in and out weirdly… just loads of little things. I mean, it’s a massive game with loads of moving parts but it does suck the immersion out of things at times.

I don't recall experiencing any bugs in the previous games, but this one I've had a floating rat in an alley, people sat at an invisible table in the middle of hunter base whilst combat went on around them, had cups placed on invisible furniture in a cut scene and then the aforementioned city of statue pedestrians...
I am loving the game, and it is a fantastic piece of work, but the bugs are very noticeable for a major Sony release.

Yes, I've noticed the odd bug and it stands out as Sony games are normally flawless in that regard (well, not counting their PC versions). Nothing particularly major, although I did have one of the no-hit Mysterium challenges not complete for some reason. I assume an enemy was stuck in some scenery or it just didn't trigger the end, but it was particularly frustrating as it took me another half dozen attempts to get gold on the challenge.
Besides that, I've had a couple of random NPCs chilling out in hunter base and Miles having his legs stuck in the ground whilst I wasn't controlling him (it fortunately teleported him when I hit the next trigger), as well as enemies getting stuck on things quite a few times.
Probably all stuff that would go fairly unnoticed in most games, but certainly stands out as missing just that final bit of polish.
Nearing what must be the end now, with my last session spent mostly clearing up some of the side stuff (still have some spider-bots to dig out and some of the district's still have something locked on them). I don't think it has been quite as good as the first time playing the first game, although I would also say it has improved on it in almost every way.

I had the glow in the dark suit thing Nick had but otherwise no bugs so far.
My youngest is playing the remastered first game and it’s been quite buggy to the point I had to reinstall it.

The best bug I had was during a street crime as Peter, Miles spawned in to assist like a supersonic missile and rattled everything on 5th Avenue over like bowling pins.
I finished it today. I think it’s exactly as long as it needed to be. Any longer and it would have started to stretch pretty thin but it kept its foot on the gas for the final stretch and I think everything landed nicely. Miles was pretty short changed but he ended up being he best character so I suppose it balances. He also gets the best suit (the city sounds one, obvs)

Interesting, that's twice now that Spiderman 2 has flashed the message that my console is overheating. Only this time I barely even got time to read it, I heard the fans getting louder, the briefest flash of the message and then just immediate shutdown. Seems like it happens to a lot of people when looking online, happened to me specifically when commanding a Spider Bot in the vents as Miles for one mission, other people reported it happening there too. It's like it trips the internal sensors or something, no way my PS5 was overheated, I just booted it up, was playing for 5 mins. Definitely an issue with the game, maybe from the game suddenly loading everything at once in this mission or framerate is uncapped or something, I dunno. But only this game has done it.
All these tech issues, soft locking and now hard crashing are definitely adding up to me as a negative experience. In spite of how amazing the traversal feels and the combat is empowering, I'm tempted to just wait. The story is just crawling along atm, I don't really like Harry so a bit annoyed that's all Peter seems to do is be with him and Miles is very much a sidekick. I trust it'll all pick up once Venom stuff kicks in, but yeah, I can afford to wait.

The Harry bit's don't last long before it gets back to zipping along. Without going into spoilers it certainly ramps up.
We are getting closer to the end, so pausing to mop up some of the markers on the map. Not had any hard crashes but had the odd bug with suits getting stuck in charged animations, people warping in in cutscenes, and some almost invisible/translucent rats - the only game progression issues have been a couple of enemies stuck in buildings so we couldn't kill them, and some random encounters which despite having cleared somehow didn't end.
So for us, it is noticeably buggy, but thankfully for us hasn't been anything major.

Finished the story last night, like the way it's heading for the inevitable follow-up. Just got a few combat trophies to mop up (and the bloody gliding from Astoria to Financial District didn't pop for me) which I'll enjoy doing and then platinum should be mine.
Loved this, no bloat, good story pacing, and the combat is a joy as always in these games.
