Black (referred to as grey): landfill
Blue: paper and card recycling
green: glass, plastic and metal recycling
brown: garden waste and food waste, however only food waste unless you pay extra £60/yr for garden waste collection. If you don't, then garden waste goes in the black (grey) bin to landfill.

No food waste collection here, which is baffling considering how green we're supposed to be. Have to pay extra for garden waste collection too, which feels like a bit of a joke considering how high council tax already is. Robbing bastards!

Exactly the same here - have to pay for the garden bin and no food waste bin (though we're pretty good at not chucking food).

Black - landfill Green - recycling (with black box insert for paper and cardboard) Green with brown lid - garden waste if you pay £96 a year. Small green bin - food waste.

I thought our 60 quid for the year was steep for the grass bin. 96!
My first world problem to do is that I have too much choice of what to have for lunch and can't decide. I'm getting hungrier by the minute.

Black for landfill Green for all recycling Brown for garden (but I have no garden - the other 2 flats in the building do, but they don't have the bins?!)
Unless you are the middle floor flat, in which case either bin is fine for anything, and it doesn't matter if it's theirs or not, as they seem to fill them all half way through the week regardless

Supposedly this will be nationalised(?)/standardised at some point, so there isn’t such disparity between councils.

I'm getting hungrier by the minute. Yup, it's insane in comparison to others. I don't actually subscribe, garden ain't big enough, but my mum did, so we use hers! On the plus side, any lost bins are replaced for free...

Cheshire East here:
Black = landfill Grey = all recycling Brown = garden and all food waste
They also gave us a tiny bin ("Tidgy Bin") to keep in the kitchen as a temporary hold for the food waste before it goes into the brown, in those little, green, compostable bags.

Some councils include the garden waste collection in the council tax so it's moot.

Some councils include the garden waste collection in the council tax so it's moot. The first rule of economics (and physics) applies: there's no such thing as a free lunch. As you point out, you're already paying for the service: all charging separately does is give the user a choice. Sounds positive, right? I can choose whether or not to pay for this extra service, rather than being forced to pay for it whether I use it or not. However... As Mrs. M. points out, in the real world, it doesn't work quite so fairly. Say we choose to pay for the service but our neighbour doesn't. Guaranteed that, as soon as we put out our bin, that neighbour is going to dump all their waste in it, rather than pay for their own. Humph.

Make sure it's full before putting it out imo. Sound words indeed, but Mrs. M. has a bit of a “thing” about getting the organic waste away from the house as quickly as possible. It’s bad enough for her that they only collect each type of bin fortnightly, rather than weekly.

Managed to slam a car door on my phone because it fell out of my pocket as I was exiting the passenger door to open gate in the countryside.
I now can't google every musing to enter my head or check things like weather. Also can't check this board every regularly.
It's a living nightmare.
Gives me a good excuse to get a new phone though.

We have black for general waste (I think my council incinerates this), green for all recycling, and then a small bin (can vary in colour) for food waste, and big green reusable garden waste bags for, erm, garden waste. I've paid to leave up to three bags a week of the garden waste. Don't think it was that expensive. I could also just not have paid as the bin men certainly aren't checking which households have paid.
They've just started to consult on whether to move the black bin collection to every two weeks instead of every week. We easily fill ours every week... Oh dear.
