Out August 25th.
Looks promising. Please let there be some sort of online coop, not just an arena mode. A Chromehounds Neroimus War-esque mode would be amazing.

Mechs have never appealed to me but I'll keep an eye on it as it's From.

Oh man, that would make me so happy. Hands down my favourite MP experience of all time. Easily my favourite game on 360, some very clever ideas like the COMBAS comms and it being before parties added a lot. Hearing someone saying they were under fire and then nothing was fantastic. Well not for the person who had been destroyed but it was also possible they were just out of radio range.

Don't know anything about these games, but more from From is always exciting.
If I were to play one of the previous games in the series, which should it be?

I do like a massive dilapidated factory setting. Loved it in Nier Automata and it looks great in this too.

Jeez I just noticed this is also a PS4 and Xbox one release.
Anyway I just watched the trailer properly for the first time. Visuals look better than froms previous games and the action looks good but it's giant robots, fighting giant robots and that does nothing for me at all. Same with things like Godzilla, just a giant monster fighting another giant monster.

Probably IV or V on PS3 and 360, though I don't know how you'd get hold of them now. V despite the number was about the 15th game in the series and they'd made things accessible by then (like being able tp use the analog sticks to control, not just the d-pad: thanks guys!). The problem is, just as with Chromehounds Whizzo and I were talking about, SP is essentially a glorified tutorial for MP...and the servers have long since been switched off. I'm interested to know the SP / MP balance for Rubicon. I'm hoping they'll have a pretty chunky SP and a clan-based persistent war for MP like Chromehounds, with both PvE and PvP in there. The other thing to keep in mind about these games - and it doesn't come across in trailer, unsurprisingly, as it's not very sexy - is that a significant portion of it is finding parts, building your mech and optimising the build for a given mission or situation. So that's got to float your boat, as well as the actual exploration / combat of missions.

Playing previous games in the Armored Core series can be kind of pricey at the moment, all the PS3 releases are more expensive than they originally retailed for now. If you have a 360 it might be a bit more tolerable, Xbox games prices tend to be lower.
If you can emulate PS2 games you may be able to try some out, the PS2 has five Armored Core games (I think). They're mostly pretty affordable if you want to play original copies.

I'm really rather excited for this.
A couple of articles based on recent hands-off previews:

Christ no pressure with that sort of headline from PushSquare. I wonder if people are aware that this isn't a Soulsbourne kind of game and there are levels in a traditional manner? I fear some people may bounce off this because they're expecting a certain kind of gameplay.

PushSquare are a bit of a joke aren't they? "Impossible to fail" yet it was a hands off demo.

Yeah, tbf I've been feeling that way about a lot of games journalism of late, to me IMO it appears that have got worse, in terms of the quality of writing, 6th form political student takes on complex issues and absolute clickbait above everything else.

I'm sure there will be a fair amount of that, sadly - From have been very clear in saying that this isn't 'Souls with mechs', and these previews support that position 100%, but I can still see a good number of people buying it on that basis and bouncing off it hard.
Never having played an Armored Core game before, I can't wait to jump in.

Yeah, there's no doubt at all that tens of thousands will buy it without really fully understanding what it is - and will be bitterly disappointed.
I don't blame folk for buying it - apart from the fact it's From, it looks bloody amazing in those previews. Those vertical environments, the art design. It's all looking really good. But there's only been a tiny glimpse at the actual mech-building, which is at the heart of the game. The handful of screens we've seen of that looks fantastic, very AC, but if you're not into spending hours tinkering, tweaking, trying to balance your systems then it's just not a game for you; it's just flying pew-pew stabby-stab robots in dystopian environments, something that I suspect would get old quite quickly without the investment in the customisation.
Got to also say that whoever is playing as the ZoE speedy bipedal bot in the previews is bloody good. I reckon that build would only take a few hits before being destroyed. Not sure I could pull off all the dodging and dancing he does. This is all speculation based on old ACs though - maybe the gameplay /is/ more forgiving and arcadey now? Who am I kidding. It's From.
Looking forward to finding out more about multiplayer but I'm starting to suspect that will just be one-on-one arena-based rather than anything like Chromehounds.

I can't stop watching that second clip in particular. I don't know I've ever seen such a gorgeous-looking level in a game. It's perfect.

I don’t think many people are looking at it thinking pew pew robots; after all, they have expectations around what a From game is at this point. Nobody saw Elden Ring previews and thought it was going to be a simple hack & slash.
Weirdly this might be the most receptive the general audience has been for ages for an AC game, purely down to the expected complexity and difficulty.

Perhaps, but how many people (given millions bought it) bounced off Elden Ring based on its complexity? A lot, I suspect. Once you get into selling hundreds of thousands, millions, we're looking at a lot who purchase off marketing and look rather than in-depth previews. That sounds snobby. It is snobby, but there's surely some truth in it.

Polygon previewIt doesn't add much to the others. Ogura focused on the legs specifically, saying that “the characteristics of the leg parts vary greatly depending on the type, and it changes action in the game dramatically".It makes me wonder how a tanky quadruped build is going to get around these vertical environments.

I saw in one vid there's an elevator, so I imagine that's how they get through the areas.
Never played an AC game before but tempted to try, sounds like my kinda thing. There'd a clip of a bipedal robot rolling mid air to dodge an attack as he charging an enemy and it sold me.

Any sort of audience crossover that brings in fans of more recent FromSoftware games is going to be a rude awakening. Though maybe there are a sub-set of those fans who might find all the tinkering and preparation in the garage absorbing.

Having never played an Armoured Core game before - what's the split between fucking up robots and faffing in the garage?
