I'm surprised about the criticism of the subs - thought both Gallagher and Bowen had decent cameos and did what they were brought on to do. I was shocked when Bowen came on. Of all the players...him? And then he put in pretty much the best ball of the night for England, forcing a fantastic save.

Though how he thought the left side of Trippier and Foden, or TAA in midfield was fine to leave until 69mins was baffling. Invited trouble and we do have options on the bench (and several more back in England). Definitely this. He should have seen it much earlier, but he did the FM thing of not making your subs until your favourite time. I don't think we were ever in any real trouble though, the defence handled the well and limited to pot shots.

Wonder if there's any chance he'd drop Trent, play Bellingham closer to Rice and have Foden sit in front. Would do this. Nothing against Trent, but all his problems as a defender follow him in to midfield. He loses focus and gets sloppy, and tries ridiculous passes. It's a shame as he is almost amazing. I agree on Trent and the fact that Bellingham can play deeper effectively. I'm just not convinced Foden is actually capable of playing 10 for England. He won't have all the movement around him that there is at City so he'll have to create space for himself and others as the fulcrum. Is he actually that good at shielding the ball under pressure then playing the critical pass? I suppose if he does what he's done for City recently and shoots with unreal accuracy from outside the area, whether he creates for others as well won't matter.

Yeah good point, I'd play Palmer ahead of Foden anyway!

Trent should be in the team as a fullback in games where we don't need to defend. There are much better centre mids than him in the squad.

Has Trent ever played left back? If so it's perhaps worth a look.
With my Arsenal hat on, I hate this idea due to the workload but logically, Saka playing left back would work. We know he can do it.
Foden can stay LWF and drift inside with Saka overlapping. Or move Foden across to the right hand side where he plays for City and bring in Eze or Gordon.
Need more balance.

Would have been nice for Southgate just to bring in some fit LBs.

I wonder what Steve Clarke is planning for tomorrow?
Its hard to know what tactical changes to make when every player was bad and none of our tactics worked.

I know its spelt differently but when you’re already battering someone it does feel a bit uncharitable to bring on a homophone of Puskas

He's scored a rake of goals as a wide forward playing for West Ham. We'd kill for a player as good as Bowen this side of the sea. Most international teams would.

I figured we'd see Palmer, Gordon or Eze before Bowen. It was more the shock that Saka was getting hooked as opposed to Foden I guess.

I wouldn’t be too concerned for Belgium Dubravka is never far from conceding 4 and these maroon shirts are very classy.

Fucking hell how many chances do Belgium want? Slovakia nearly score a fantastic goal and Belgium missing easier opportunities.

Always nice to remind myself of Barry Glendenning’s marvellous line that Lukaku can control the ball further than Barry can kick it
