Saka was the only one who played well for the entire tournament, but he was basically playing all alone as their only attacking route for most of it, with no-one in the box.
Shaw, Mainoo, Palmer etc.. were good. Bellingham and Foden were either anonymous or excellent depending on the time. Toney etc.. seemed good, but it's hard to tell from 10 secs.
I don't know how they were in the first half of the final, but based on the second half they made a decent showing and didn't bottle it or anything like that.

England's out and hit pieces start coming out already. Athletic has a piece on England camp seeing Bellingham as a bit of a self centered prat.

You think they'd give it 5 minutes before twisting the knife.

Typical English press, build him up to be the messiah and then knock him down when he's not.

He may not have won the cup but he's on the cover of EAFC25 so he's the real winner.

So new English of foreign coach, slim pickings either way, I want an Englishman but I do rather like Klopp and think he would do a job, not that I think he wants one!

Klopp would be mad to take an international job when there’s not a club in the world that wouldn’t have him

Klopp won't be taking a job until next summer earliest. Man's living his best life atm. Even then I don't think he'd ever manage England in a month of Sundays.

Why not? Think of all the 12.30 kick offs he won't have to play

English press on De la Fuente: "He's been working with Spanish teams for the last decade, won European Championships with both the u19s and u21s, took the Olympic team to the silver medal, then won the Nations League and the Euros with the senior team. That's how to bring a national coach through."
English press on Lee Carsley as an option for the next England manager: "Pppphhht, think we can do a bit better than that!"

International management is a doddle compared to league football if you enjoy travelling and watching games. If he fancies an easy few years it might be right up his street.

Most successful England manger ever. But didn't win anything, so maybe not. I really hope the next appointment is more attacking focused. World cup only 2 years away.

Gareth United manager by October? I'd love it, just to see the Goldbridge reaction.

Thanks for the decent-ish memories Southgate.
Next manager needs to be able to keep the team from being cliquey and hating each other on club lines (as that seems to be an enormous benefit to the team to say the least and the main thing Southgate achieved) but far more tactically astute.
I do worry it's just going to be one or the other again. But with Southgate the test is somewhat along the lines of "would you have him as your team's manager?" and I think for most Prem club fans, the answer would definitely be no.

You have to give him respect for where he's got the squad, but win % doesn't mean shit if you haven't got something to show for it, and I should know that being an Arsenal fan.
Gareth is a BOTTLER etc.

Top bloke, wish him all the best for the staggering amount of work he's done to clean up this team and the culture surrounding it.

Did a good job at making England a team that seemed to work most of the time but his tactics were limited and a reluctance to change when things weren't working was a fatal flaw.
Next England game is September 7th against Ireland so the FA haven't got a huge amount of time.

I would imagine they knew before the tournament so probably have a good idea who they want. I'm sure they could just give it to Lee Carsley in the meantime if needed and let him audition.

Top bloke, wish him all the best for the staggering amount of work he's done to clean up this team and the culture surrounding it. Absolutely this. It's a thankless job with ridiculous scrutiny and pressure. But he did it with grace, humility and managed to bring the players together. He's an excellent person. The next manager may be better tactically but I doubt they'll manage the media or dressing room like Southgate. Leaves head held high, our most successful manager since Ramsey. I wouldn't want him managing my club mind. 🤣

Delighted to see him move on, time for something new. We are far better suited to attacking football and it needs to be a manager who embraces it.
