Ball must have been in play for about 1 of those 4 minutes.
Can't complain really anyway. They were just miles better than us and showed why playing positively will usually win out in modern football. You can't rely on moments forever.
Thanks Gareth, but it's time to head out into the sunset now.

4 seems a bit low. They spend 2 celebrating. 2 other goals, subs etc. All the technology in the world thrown at football and still can't calculate stoppage time in a logical way.

Spain were just much better at applying pressure consistently throughout when they didn't have the ball. Then taking advantage of a team that don't do that as well when they did have the ball. The better team won.
And on the plus side, we don't have to listen to people banging on about an England win for the next fifty years.

So frustrating because the players are better than that. The thing is, even in this very thread the sentiment was that they never showed that. Cagey football all the time except for small bits during the time they were behind, and flashes of inspiration and solo talent for the goals. At some point, it's just not gonna work anymore, could have happened earlier in the tournament too. Anyway, happy birthday Yamal! Nice belated present

Walker had to go for the ball as it came to Cucurella, was very surprised he didn't. Foul him, do whatever.
Overall Southgate shit as we know. Another final shithoused to with an easy side of the draw. Terrible tactics, and wasted 60 minutes of the final.

Sigh. I think both goals were avoidable. First one was not closing Yamine down and second was letting Fabian pass turn in midfield and take out 3 of our midfielders instantly.

Yeah for whatever reason it was one tournament too many for Southgate, despite making the final.

4 minutes was never enough and we only played about 1 minute of that with all the rolling around.
Having said that we once again brought it on ourselves but sitting back again once scoring.
Can’t say Spain don’t deserve it. By far the best team in the competition.
My boy is really upset. Bless him. I’m just a bit… meh.

I'm taking this as compensation for the tooth I randomly chipped (on fucking pizza of all things, and not even on the crust FFS) while watching

I enjoyed the Palmer goal and we didn’t lose on penalties so I’m actually not that fussed.

Gutted, but football justice was served. Best team by miles won it.
Our mid-field was completely shut down. Fair play De La Fuente's tactics were spot in.

Hopefully that's it for Southgate then. Obviously brought the team a lot of good memories over the last few years but it should be pretty clear he's probably not the one to actually get England to win something. Hopefully there's a manager out there who can retain the positive team spirit while being significantly better tactically.

Spain just moved better than we did. England was relying on marksmen and Kane isn’t the player he used to be. That last gasp effort though… Spain’s defence was tight.

England had some good moments but Spain were undeniably the team of the tournament so deserve the crown.
Still, reaching the final the way they did was a real achievement. Palmer needs to be featured so much more in future. Electric every time he got on the pitch.

They are good at big moments but not at the fundamentals of football such as keeping the ball, movement off the ball, reading the game etc Spain could press England because we are weak with the ball, we couldn’t effectively press them because they are good in possession and always have an out ball We are also poor defensively, as good as Shaw was his positioning and reading of the game led to the first goal

Southgate came in and stabilised things and got us winning games in tournaments. Great man manager, poor tactician.
No hard feelings, but we need something different to take us forward.

I'm not as gutted as I was three years ago. That Italy game was the one, we were a much stronger team than them on paper and still played like underdogs, even after tearing them apart after a minute.
Today. Nah. They were better than us all tournament. It was obvious if Southgate wasn't willing to change anything it would come to this. Kane trotting out again to do absolutely nothing sums it up. It wasn't working before this and it wasn't going to work today.

Well done Spain. Better team won, but the worse team could still have nicked it. First half was good, second half too slow to respond again.
Gutted for Gareth but ultimately that's two finals where his limitations have been exposed. We played an hour with a player we knew was limited. He snookered himself somewhat with muddled squad selection before he even left England. Yet we're very well positioned for 2 and 4 years time if we can kick on. Loads of good young players, it's not like Spain have a monopoly by any means.
Pick and play club units and players high on form and confidence and not 'the best players'. Play a system that allows players to do what they do at their clubs.
Gareth restored credibility to England. The players are there for us and the future is bright with a good appointment.

Disappointing but best team won. Congrats Spain. Felt we rode our luck a little getting as far as the final despite a relatively easy pathway. That said lads should still be proud to be runners up. Time to sunset Southgate & Kane though imo. And as a Spurs fan I still love Kane but he just doesn’t have the same stamina level and his pace is dropping off now…

The final was all on Southgate trying to bore and soak up pressure for 90 mins and hope to fluke in a set piece goal.
The two players who wore the armband on the pitch tonight stank the place out. Kane hasn't been fit or on it since the start, offering no threat up front. Kyle Walker is braindead and can only look good when he can try and bully someone to a loose ball.
The Spanish know how to shithouse their way to win finals, it's what they do and England didn't try and win it after they had the momentum from Palmer's goal.
