Unlucky Wales. James looked utterly terrified. 9 great pens before that (Nico Williams' the pick). Only watched ET and pens but enjoyed the random English phrases in amongst the Welsh. "Hop, skip and jump" stood out with the first Polish penalty.

Hopefully DJ isn’t left too shaken.
We have a game on Friday. Given our team is basically the Welsh national team at this point I would’ve preferred it not end in a heartbreaking defeat after 120 minutes of max effort.

Watched Wales last night and whilst it wasn’t a great game, I felt for them. The offside at the end of the first half was right decision, but still tight and could have gone t’other way. Poland were just poor, poor, poor. Penalties was the only way to solve it, but no way to exit the competition

It doesn’t really feel like anyone has much of a vintage squad at the moment.
Although, yeah, Scotland do feel a bit toothless.

I still find it completely baffling that England have an elite attack and a League 1 level defence and yet the manager sets them up as if it's the other way round.
That might be a lazy interpretation, as I try not to actually watch them unless I can avoid it.

The sight of Pickford running away from the ball as it got tapped in at the opposite post was fairly alarming

I didn't even realise England were playing last night, which is a bit sad really as it should be really exciting with the players we've got. I really hope we up our game in the tournament as a feeble exit would be so disappointing with this group of players.

Watching it on Channel 4 really makes the coverage feel quite small time and easy to forget its even on. Their studio looks like they’ve been wedged into a bigger room thats been partitioned off to squeeze three or four d tier broadcasters into a space ITV would have had use of the whole thing.

The defence is proper shit. The idea that Ben White doesn't walk into it at RB or CB is laughable.

Heh, I've just read his comments about football online and it actually makes me like him a little.
It's a job to him - fair play for admitting it. I'm sure others feel the same but would never say it out loud.

I said the other day. If he didn't have passion for football, he wouldn't be first choice for Arsenal, having consistently decent seasons and be wanted for England. You think I go home and tinker on my PC after a day of tinkering at work on a PC? Nah get ta fook.

And even if he actually did hate football the fact that he’s a regular starter at Arsenal demonstrates that he’s properly good at it regardless. Possibly even better than players England have selected.

Was just looking up players who have been England captain at least once. Some good one captain cap wonders in the list. Also feels a bit judgy but not sure if it is a great making Kyle Walker captain with what has been going on in his private life. But I guess that ship sailed a long time ago with John Terry being England captain.

Possibly even better than players England have selected. My issue with him isn’t this (quite a few players over the years have said they are not really interested in football outside of playing it, David Batty and Nicky Butt come to mind). It was more about the flounce off home during the World Cup because of falling out with the coaching staff then still sulking about two years later thing. Kind of makes me thing “bellend”.

I think if he made it clear he is invested in playing for England, then he would have been picked?
I'm assuming he hasn't done so and is happy enough sunning himself in Dubai instead.

I think he wants to play for England but not to get chewed out in front of others for a bollocks reason, or to be left on the bench in favour of Trippier etc.

To be fair, I think trippier was on top of his game at that point. We also have Walker, James, Trent etc. Honestly we are pretty well stocked there when everyone is fit (obviously big if at the moment). CB is another story though but I don’t know how good he is there.
I can kind of see it from Southgate’s point. I’ve got nothing against the guy, but if he’s not that invested in playing for England, I can see why you would choose others who are ahead of him. As for calling him out in front of the group, that’s not ok if it happened that way.

Trippier was pretty good before October/November last year then for some mysterious reason he became completely incapable of playing football

I don’t really think anyone is at major fault for the White situation. On form he’s probably number one in that position, and arguably a better fit a CB too, but if he didn’t like being spoken to in that way and found the whole thing annoying then fair enough. His work rate and attitude for Brighton and Arsenal are beyond question. I wouldn’t work for someone who balled me out in front of my colleagues for some bullshit either.
It’s a nothing situation but as usual everyone has to boil it down to someone being a dick.
It if was Rice, Saka, Bellingham or Kane then I get it, but our tournament hopes do not depend on Ben White sitting on the bench.
