That's seriously attacking though. Doesn't look like it would offer much protection for the defence against better teams.

Don't bother with England football these days as it's just dreadful but comments from Maguire saying people who boo Henderson aren't really England fans can fuck off.
Maybe they're fans of people who aren't hypocrites and throw human rights under the bus for a bit of money.

I just had a look at the teams and our current forward line up is miles better, we had Sterling, mount and Kane in 2021. Yesterday we had Foden, Rashford, Kane and crucially Bellingham behind them too. We just had that extra level of quality. Lol, would ye feck off. You had more than enough in that line up to win. That front three is absolutely light years beyond what most teams have. At international level you're lucky to have 1x player of that quality. Who did Italy have? Chiesa? Is he even really at that level...? Plus Rash and Jude were in the squad. I think you forget that we're talking about England, the Spurs of International football  We need that extra level of quality to win, to make up for the lack of bottle |

True, maybe you'd need two DMs against the best teams, but against teams where you are going to have 60% possession it makes sense. Plus it means we don't have to play the likes of Phillips and Henderson. Rice is pretty capable of doing that role to be honest. |

The problem we’re going to have is our attack is WAY better than our defence. We need a manager who’s prepared to really lean into that. Conservative Gareth will just invite pressure on our whiffy defence.

I don't think the defence is that bad. He just insists on playing Maguire which limits us so much. Stones, Dunk, Guehi are quality. Walker too. Left back is perhaps a little weaksauce I guess.

Dunk is the only natural LCB in that group. That combined with not many options at LB makes that side a real weakness. And I’m not completely convinced about Pickford or Ramsdale. |

Yeah I keep forgetting about him. I think he is actually an LCB. Of course committing the cardinal sin of playing for minnows AC Milan so doesn’t get a look in. Perhaps a move to the much more elite Saudi league would help.

I think Ramsdale is better than Pickford by a distance but it probably, again, comes back to how he sets the team up. Pickford is probably a better shot stopper but is crap with the ball - not sure Southgate wants that though.

I’m not kidding about considering Dan Burn by the way. He’s English and playing on the left hand side of one of the best Premier League defences of the last year and a half. Can play LCB and LB and our RB is already there on the other side of the box.
Plus unlike other Southgate regulars he plays in his position for his club on a regular basis /actually gets to play first team football.
