I want to know Gary Lineker’s views before I decide whether to worry.

I think it's might be the global civilisation crash of 2023, wherever I turn it's just bad news all around.

Maybe from the madness something beautiful will grow. Nah. I saw he’d spent a week digging a hole for himself. I could have dug that much in a single tweet, and started to sense the gulf between his dreams, and his powers.

This might be famous last words, but this is pretty much a tech industry problem, not an economy wide issue.
Bank focused on tech industry does stupid things, tech industry it serves suffers.

You don't think there's a knock on effect? Everything is linked together these days. Bank shares globally have tumbled since SVB happened. Not just tech banks, either. Santander and Commerzbank were both affected, for example. Those are both significant universal banks.

This may be controversial, but I think we're all going to be basically fine.

Don't worry about the banks! They will have a glorious time once the war in Ukraine is over and they can profiteer off the reconstruction processes there.

It's almost like the current system is totally unfit and brittle and any external pressure can cause it to collapse.

Banks have had to hold a shitload of capital preciously to stop 2008 happening. Small banks that are over exposed to SVB or clients of SVB will be effected yes, the large banks no. Unless everyone behaves like Manchester United against Liverpool in the second half, in which case we're all fucked again.

Yeah, but the stock market is just herds of hungry ducks running away, then towards, then away from things. Yesterday bank fall down, today bank scary, tomorrow hungry ducks buy up cheaper bank shares, ducks all run at banks again.

Fuckin’ love The Artilleryman. Such a good metaphor for guys who talk a big game, and a catchy song to sing at them to confuse them.

Any effects from [thread title] will be seen far more widely.

Like there's a general credit tightening going on which is what caught SVB off guard, but the UK one doesn't seem to have been a massive deal as we've still got more rules in place than what Trump burned.
You never know but it doesn't seem like it's going to infect everything. Other than just being a part of the recession that's already sort of coming/going. The tech sector has been haemorrhaging money, staff and valuation for a bit now. So the interest rates going up was going to have a knock on effect with all that anyhow.

It strikes me that "we found material weakness in our accounting controls" is another way of saying "we've been cooking the books".
Not that anyone will remotely be held to account, of course.

Haven't Credit Suisse be in problems for years? Bypassing sanctions, banking for Oligarchs, fines for banking for the Mafia etc?
