Really tempted to buy this, mostly because my Index is getting a bit long in the tooth. Realistically though, I’d be only for GT7, but that doesn’t work with my G27 wheel. I don't think you will see much difference between an Index and PSVR2. I come from a Rift CV and, yea its better but not earth shatteringly so. Aren't you well served with racing sims on the PC?

I am, played quite a bit of Asseto Corsa, Project Cars 2 and both Dirt Rallies. Just finished watching the Tested review and Norm also doesn’t recommend getting one if you’re a vr enthusiast already. Finding all these limitations annoying, I can understand Sony not releasing a PC driver, but my wheel not working just because it’s a bit older is a stupid limitation.

Just put Jurassic World on and got some nausea after about 10 mins. First time that’s happened. Will have to ease into that one slowly this week.

Has there been much of a comparison of Index Vs PSVR2? I've been holding off on replacing my Vive and was hoping that maybe something would come from Sony about getting it on PC, even if it is an additional £100 bit of kit you need to plug it into. I was assuming it was quite a bit better than the Index, but perhaps I should just get the Index.
I already have the Index controllers and the base stations from my Vive, so it would just be the headset. The headset itself is actually about the same price as the PSVR2.

I still like my Index, but I’m mainly looking for something higher res for flight sim. Apparently HP is going to stop producing the Reverb G2 (which is 4K) so hoping to pick one of those up cheaply.

Index is getting on a little bit but still had the widest FOV of any decent headset, which imo adds more immersion than upping the res. A replacement headset has been in the rumor mill for a few years now, but it’s Valve so who knows when it may emerge.
The pimaxes do have a wider FOV but are also a massive ball ache to get working well.

The blunt truth is any progression in VR is going to be gradual. Every headset both old and new has limitations. Sony has made a solid step in comparison to the original PSVR and older PCVR systems. It's currently held back by the PS5 which has a 2070 level GPU. The reprojection in Horizon is proof of this. I assume a PS5 Pro may be a viable upgrade when it comes.

I think vr will be on the decline if psvr doesn't do the numbers, quest sales tailed right off after the increase in price and the games have dried up a bit.
Psvr 2 might give it the shot in the arm it needs or it could go the other way if it doesn't take off.

Managed to give my brother's headset a quick 10 minute go this afternoon and it is definitely a step up on the Vive, although not as bigger a difference as I would have expected. The screen door effect is basically not there at all, so I had an immediate wow moment when I put it on. Just as the screen door effect becomes less noticeable when not trying to look at fine detail though, that impact fades fairly quickly.
The image quality was clearly very good. I may have not had it fully configured for me though, as I felt it was perhaps a bit blurry. Besides configing it for my eyes, I suspect much of that is to do with it being rendered on a PS5 and there really is a limitation to how good the image can look, even with foveated rendering. Made me wish that we could really push the screen to its limits on PC.
The tracking seemed just ok and it did lose itself a couple of times. I was using it as it was starting to get dark and the light wasn't on, so perhaps that was causing a few problems.
Controllers seemed pretty good. I'm used to the Index controllers and do feel I still prefer those, but I could see myself getting used to these just fine. The finger tracking isn't quite as good, but also does as much as it really needs to.
It was a slightly restricted space he has it in, so I was constantly leaving the boundary of the play area. It had a really aggressive switch to showing the play area and dimming the game, which was really annoying. I'm sure there is a system setting he hadn't tweaked to turn that off or increase the opacity. Similarly, the game (Horizon) kept narrowing the fov. It will be a comfort setting somewhere, but had a look in the menus and couldn't see it.
So, yeah, definitely a good bit of kit and I can imagine it is mind-blowing for someone who either hasn't used VR or only used the first PS headset. From a PCVR user it isn't quite as good, but still really good. As I say, I only tried it very briefly and it clearly wasn't set up for me and for my preferences. With tweaking of the settings, I'm sure it would be an improved experience.
I'm probably still not going to get one, unless there is a huge glut of exclusives. PC support would tempt me, but I think I would probably prefer to see a new Valve headset that included things like eye tracking and perhaps a slightly bigger fov with similar resolution. Chances of that coming out soon is unlikely though.

I freaking love VR. Regardless of tech specs and stuff, now that all the current sets are at a place were it comfortably sells the illusion of being "in" the game it's like videogame magic. It's just so cool, leaning around corners hiding from stuff, or dodging bullets and shooting back. And I like that, for a lot of things, it's more pick-up and playable and immersive for non-gamers too. Seeing my gf dancing about playing music games, and requesting to play them, is great. For the most part I don't care if she, or others, don't care for my hobbies, but it's really nice to find that thing that captures her interest in the way that a lot of games do for me.
Still haven't touched Horizon, GT or Moss yet.

" it's like videogame magic. It's just so cool,"
Yeah, that. I understand it's very expensive, and I haven't bought a PSVR2 headset yet myself (I do have PSVR1), but I am surprised by the often lukewarm and jaded reaction on the internet and even from mates and colleagues who generally do play videogames. Like you said, it's so damn cool, and it's like magic - how can people be *not* enthusiastic about it? It's ridiculous.

Really tempted to buy this, mostly because my Index is getting a bit long in the tooth. Realistically though, I’d be only for GT7, but that doesn’t work with my G27 wheel. The Brook Ras1ution converters work with the G27. Sadly, for the PS5 I think you'd need the Ras1ution 2, which is a fair pricier than the original. I'm not sure on that though, so it's worth taking a look.

I just fought a Thunderjaw. Soooo good.
I really like how the developers have kept the feel of Horizons combat in a VR space. Good stuff.
Not sure if that’s a spoiler has it’s in the trailers. Will blank it out if so.

Will blank it out if so. I feel like the balance between climbing and combat isn’t quite right. The combat as you say is really fun, but it’s seemingly used as a palette cleanse between the much longer climbing sections (which are also fun but get a bit much imo).

Yeah the game does feel like 80% climbing and the rest combat and walking. It is probably a bit much. Think it just does about enough to spice it up by introducing a new climbing tool now and again. Enjoying it though. Would say it’s one for fans of the series, otherwise maybe wait for a price drop.

Climbing in Blood & Truth on the skyscraper level was fun, holding on with one hand as you popped some goon with a shotgun in the other. Shame that never looks like it'll get a port, better controls and free movement would have been great.

After only just setting up and playing, I’m Very impressed.
Put on Demeo and the graphics are so clear it’s night and day from the quest and I thought they looked good.
Then tried thumper, same game but better looking again but the distant was haze in the distance.
Next was Resident Evil, that looked amazing and some o the wood textures were unreal. But the camera angle stuff when you don’t control the player was very jarring.
Then it was Call of the Mountain, I’d seen the videos but nothing prepares you for how good it looked.
I surprisingly don’t feel too bad either despite playing with normal movement on Horizon and Resident Evil but I did have the gradual turn on.
So far the headset felt a little awkward as my nose was tight against the headset but I’ll mess around a bit. Don’t know if I need to wear my glasses as I only use them when at my computer for work., as it was close to my nose I’m wary of the glasses scratching the lense as well.

If your wear glasses just for screen (and your long-site is ok) then don't use them. VR is focal distance is not based on how close the lenses are to the screen but about 2m in front.
Been wanting to play Demeo but I don't know anyone who has it. As an old school RPGer it looks right up my alley.

Indeed, I also heard the focus point is about 6 feet. Focus and convergence being out of whack is going to take a long time to solve. You'd have to dynamically change the focus based on eye-tracking. I only have trouble when I hold something up to have close look at it, gets all blurry. Like the gloves in HL:A, they are super detailed, but hard for me to see it.

Talking of Demeo, I’d love to play Gloomhaven in VR when it comes out on consoles.

Only played GT7 last night whilst waiting for Horizon to download. So will check that out after work. Desperate to get home. Think I might get one of Tetris, Thumper or Rez as well. All 3 are worthy purchases. Difficult choice. I brought Thumper today. It’s very good. Havn’t played anything quite like it. Would recommend it.

I fancy a snack-sized VR game to go alongside the main courses of GT7 and RE Village. In my wishlist I've got Moss Book 2 (played most of 1 on PSVR1), Tentacular, Kayak, and Pistol Whip. Recommendations please! Have I missed anything good? Ideally it'd be something quite chilled and gentle on the ol' stomach.

Pistol Whip is great but not exactly chill. Kayak is cool but very light on content. I've not played the other two, though I have the Moss collection waiting. Jake Baldino was pretty positive on Tentacular when I watched his VR roundup video yesterday.
