I still really want to try PSVR2 before I’d ever consider buying (never had a VR set before so no idea how I’d get on with one).
Was there ever a company that offered “pay and play” or a retail company that offered demo trials to purchase yet?
It’s just too big an investment/gamble on VR not being a vom comet otherwise to take the plunge?!

I think you'd need to go to an expo. You might get a larger Game store maybe but even then, they are delicate bits of kit. GT7 is the only one so far to make me feel vom.

I'd really like the new WRC to add VR to the game, but I can't see that ever really happening outside of 1st party stuff.

MRTV set up a company to do just this. gb.trymytech.com/ - not many people at the moment and no PSVR2. If you are in the West Country give me a PM as I have a PSVR2 and am willing to demo.

I live in the SE but I do often come to the West country (friends in Bristol and Cornwall) so if I have a trip with time to spare i'll PM you as offered thank you!I might contact TMT too and suggest he considers PSVR2 (no idea if its commercially allowed but you never know!)

If he’s already playing the likes of CoD then perfectly suitable.
I’ve probably played more against bots than anything but that’s because I’m shit.

OK, cool, thanks. He plays a bit of older CoD but dips in and out of them really. Think he's feeling left out at school, with a load of his mates playing this on the oculus.

New PSVR2 owner here!
The great: I just played the prologue of Horizon this morning. Then I got my older boy to try it - he loved it. Then my wife - she loved it. Then my younger boy when he got up - he loved it. I know it's to some extent "just" a tech demo but man it is spectacular.
Everything else I've tried has been pretty decent too, and my son is delighted by Saints and Sinners Chapter 2 as the first was a huge favourite of his back on PSVR.
The one, to put it mildly, bloody dodgy moment was when my younger son jumped into a MP match of Pavlov to be greeted by Nazis saluting and, bizarrely, a host of Ronald McDonald-alikes who were just milling about being dicks. I don't know wtf that was about, but it was fully voiced, unexpected and unpleasant. That only happened once but you need to know which servers to join and which to avoid. Trial and error, I guess.

I've got Pavlov on PSVR2 but haven't really played it much - it was ok and as an old Counterstrike player back in 1.6 days it was pretty intense. Prefer more single player orientated stuff these days (old age I suppose but then I thought Onward was great on PC - the pacing is different). As for online weirdos and bellends - yea be mindful of that. VR is still the wild west when it comes to social interactions and is much more impactful in VR. Choose them servers wisely. Just finished Red Matter 2 which was a very polished and enjoyable experience.

That was one of the reasons why I decided against Pavlov for the boy. Just didn't seem right. Another year or so, maybe.
He's currently well into FNAF.
Usual recommendations apply... Pistol Whip and Walkabout Minigolf.

Pistol Whip and Walkabout Minigolf. Yeah, I think you made the right choice there (my younger is 16 so he's old enough but I'm sitting listening to an accented pre-pubescent voice shouting "fuck you, and fuck you too pussy, and fuck you" - I need to get him to put the headphones in if he won't follow my advice and leave this bizarre hunt the traitor / murder mystery game he's playing). Definitely looking at PW and Minigolf, cheers. Got to try out the rest of my purchases first.

Kayak is very nice and serene but it's more an experience than a game. Good intro though.
What else did you get FF?

Kayak is very nice and serene but it's more an experience than a game. Good intro though. What else did you get FF? Saints and Sinners, Chapter 2 (that was for Alex, he adored the original: I'm glad I got the upgraded original for free too). Horizon - part of the bundle, only tried it this morning and as mentioned it was a huge hit. Red Matter 2 - just not sure if I should get and play the first one first? Kayak - looking forward to chilling out to this, and I reckon my wife will love it too. Pavlov - as discussed earlier. Intriguing, but caught between shit bots and absolute losers it seems. RE4 - okay, had this already, but have not even played it, so I'm chuffed to be able to do try it in VR. REV - played this on xbox but it was only 10 quid or so, and I can't wait to try it in VR. RE7 destroyed me on PSVR. Tetris Effect - upgrade. One of my favourites from PSVR. Crossfire - this seems more promising than Pavlov so far. Synapse - not delved yet. Cosmodread - likewise. I really loved The Persistence on PSVR. I may have been the only one. Hoping for similar vibes. Also some demos (Star Wars, Puzzling Places, Song in the Smoke) and I have No Man's Sky which I'm fairly keen to have another bash at. I almost got Demeo but it felt a bit pricey, as did GT7.

It is very good. Although not my thing either as I as so terrible at it. Pistol Whip scratches that itch for me without exposing that I have no rhythm at all.

Sounds like Pavlov has gone downhill fast. In the first week it was everyone being really friendly and often not even bothering to shoot each other.
I’ve only really played it offline since as I’m awful at it but with the bots it’s a bit like an on the rails shooter.

First Contact Entertainment are closing down, guess doing a worse version of their only hit with Firewall Ultra wasn't the best idea.
Probably best avoided even if it's heavily discounted as it's not going to get any further development like turning it into a good game.

I’ve only really played it offline since as I’m awful at it but with the bots it’s a bit like an on the rails shooter. Yeah, the bots mode is laughable, the way they just walk in a straight line towards you. Anyway, I don't like being a heavy-handed Dad - my younger son is 16 but also quite vulnerable in various ways - but as soon as I heard him shout at the top of his voice "why did you kill him, he was innocent?" I made him stop and banned him from Pavlov until I've done a bit more research. Yesterday my other boy tried out the WWII map (I think it's just one map? I haven't really got my head around the game yet) and that seemed perfectly fine - but then no one was speaking to each other. There seem to be certain modes that attract the absolute nobs. And as mentioned, I reckon there must be some okay servers out there.

Yeah, that's why I'm leaning towards Pistol Whip. They’re very different. I need to play PW more often but the sense of progression and improvement in BS is really rewarding. You don’t need rhythm, just practice. I can complete a few songs on Expert+ now, and I’ve seen my gf go from Normal to Expert. It’s one of the best rhythm, and best VR, games available.

Synth Riders is another good shout in the Bear Saber/ Pistol Whip domain. The mixed reality mode on the Quest 3 is excellent as the notes are flying at you through a whole in your (front room) wall. Really neat trick.

SR was a nice stand-in until BS released on VR2 but it’s nowhere near as good, imo. Doesn’t give you anywhere near the same feedback or skill ceiling, despite being generally mechanically similar-ish.

PSVR2 coming at Christmas (had a PSVR1 in the past).
Getting GT7 and Resi4 with it, already have Resi 8. My top PSVR1 games were Ultrawings and SkyrimVR, so looking forward to Ultrawings 2. Loved the bow in Skyrim so perhaps I should get Horizon in the future.
Also played Red Matter so will probably check out the sequel when it is cheap.
Excited!
