Nasty crash in the Dwars door Vlaanderen, Mads, Girmay, Wout, Stuyven, stretchers out for the last two :( Fucking hell. :-o Ironically, it happened on a stretch of road that's been removed from De Ronde because it was considered too dangerous.

There looked like a slight dip and raise between the lighter and darker tarmac, someone kinda hopping it in the replay.

Jeez, Wout broke his collarbone, sternum and 7 ribs. That sounds horrific. Jasper Stuyven broke his collarbone.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=I33UcswQGp4Benoot syaing he stood up to react to a surge, and as happens your slow down for a split second when you do that, and that's when WvA overlapped his wheel, just bike racing unfortunately.

Woke up shortly after 10am and turned on the livestream on my phone, just in time to see the rolling start.
I've moved over to the sofa where I plan to spend the rest of the day. Coffee's just ready too.

Soooo. As coming into the troué d'Arenberg at full speed and hitting those first gnarly cobblers at 70 km/h is dangerous, the Paris-Roubaix organizers were considering a chicane right before, to reduce the speed coming into that sector.
They now confirmed there will be a chicane.
I think MvdP's reaction is succinct yet sufficient.

Jeez, Wout broke his collarbone, sternum and 7 ribs. That sounds horrific. Jasper Stuyven broke his collarbone. And yesterday, exactly 1 week later, he posted an activity on Strava titled "standing still is moving backwards". A 4km walk that took him about 1 hour to complete. Mental.

Jeez Wout, just chill for a few weeks and let the broken ribs knit.
Even doped up to the eyeballs on pain killers that must have hurt.

Bad news coming out of the Basque country, big crash again. Jonas, Remco, Roglic all abandoned injured, plus several more. Stretchers in action again.

Looks incredibly nasty. Kind of wild they’d just leave that concrete ditch on the corner like that

Viewed from the motorbike that was in front of them, it looked like a fairly easy corner.
They must've come through it at a fair clip to all go down like that. :-/

Spanish local pros saying the road was well known for having lots of tree roots, & being unexpectedly bumpy as a result. Was reading somewhere that a cycling road safety thing flagged the decent up has quite dangerous. Apparently the road is white lumpy with roots of trees pushing the road up in places. Vingegaard, Remco and Vine with some quite significant injuries

Watched the highlights last night. It looked really nasty for all concerned. Given Roglic had a possible concussion after a fall the day before the y all crashed yesterday too, it's not great.
Skiting into that concrete gutter/trench would really have hurt. That's a lot of big names all being in bad shape early in the season when they were hoping to build up, so who knows what will happen this year.
Although, if WvA is already running, then I guess these nutters will be doing the same soon too.
One thing i noticed on the footage yesterday was either Remco is tiny, or he was standing next to some massively tall geezer after his crash!

Although, if WvA is already running, then I guess these nutters will be doing the same soon too. Easy now. He went for a very leisurely stroll. He wasn't out running. www.strava.com/pros/189040?hl=nl-NL

Given he's fucked up various ribs and his sternum, the fact he's upright and moving about is ridiculous!

Given he's fucked up various ribs and his sternum, the fact he's upright and moving about is ridiculous! Yeah, that's true. Highly enjoyed Paris-Roubaix yesterday. Although the action, as is becoming more common these days, was early on in the race, when the pack was seriously reduced very early on. It was thinned sufficiently that the chicane wasn't the disaster it could have been. Another impressive solo by Mathieu. It was strange to see the mythical sectors of Mons en Pévèle and Carrefour de l'arbre pass by without any consequence this time. Normally it's where the race is decided and yesterday we'd been watching Mathieu cruise along with a comfortable lead for about an hour when he passed there.

Great solo from VDP. Does seem that we are seeing more 50k-80k solo attacks over the last couple of seasons. Practically unheard of a couple years back, now it seems we get a few a season. Quite unnerving when both Pog and VDP have ridden so little too.
Didn’t think FTP tests were meant to cover that distance 😂

Twatting wank- wrote my bike off today. Fun loop, fast descent, have been thinking I needed to change the disc pads lately, ordered some but not here yet. Shame, because there was NO chance I as going to stop in time for the gate I came across. Actually rounded the corner and had a few seconds to plan exactly how I was going to crash and opted for ploughing the front into the brambles ahead of the fencing to help stop a bit whilst leaning off the back as far as I could😗 Worked quite well actually, big bruise on my calf where it whacked into the bike but nothing broken… except the bike frame now has a slightly odd geometry Just a basic Giant CX bike, but fuck it was so direct and fun off road. Punched well above its weight. Le cry.

Can anyone recommend me a good tyre. Seems to be a minefield. It's for a triathlon, I'm not competing for a win so speed isn't a priority lol. Something with good grip and resilient to punctures etc.

Definitely can, but it depends on how much you want to spend- can easily be £50/£60 a tyre for fast, light *and* puncture resistant, bit less if you can sacrifice one of those.
