Has anyone else noticed how disjointed the background dialogue is in this game? The students never really react to what was said previously and instead say things that are completely unrelated which makes me think that their phrases are randomly chosen rather than scripted, it really weirds me out.

That’s open world games for you. I’d be cool if something like the next GTA does something exciting with AI and speech generation, but I doubt it. Would go a long way in making a world more believable.

I've never been as impressed with a location in a video game before as I am with Hogwarts castle. It is absolutely massive and full of detail. I find myself just roaming the castle admiring all the architecture. Frequently getting lost due to just how massive it is.
Genuinely loving this so far. |

Why didn't they give us a chest to store our gear in? They do, pretty sure it’s in your dorm. The gear situation is a bit ridiculous. Why is there a scarf in a treasure chest in a dungeon guarded by skeletons? |

Started watching a "things I wish I knew before starting playing" video and one of the first recommendations was to spend three hours doing a quest that rewards you with an outfit.

I like exploring and unlocking stuff too much it seems.

That’s weird, there was a chest somewhere that said storage or something. Although I didn’t open it. I sell everything except what I’m wearing. Once you’ve looked at an item you can use its appearance anyway.

I wonder why companies keep giving their super-hyped licensed games to some studios who are more or less guaranteed to churn out something average at best. Like why couldn't they ask Rocksteady or Monolith or whatever?
Is it a case that they know people will buy it regardless, so there is no reason to waste the time of a good developer? Or is it because the good developer is always already busy whenever these deals are made?

It's sitting at 85 metascore, which aligns it with the better of the two Mordor games and Arkham Knight (the first 2 Arkham games are a little higher). It's already above average and not incomparable to the other studios output.
But yes, the other studios are busy - Rocksteady are working on Suicide Squad and Monolith on Wonder Woman.

Anyway, did a great side quest that involved following some clues on a map and a fairly massive dungeon section that reminded me of Elden Ring. A lot of the side quests a pap but some are really excellent, and I continue to be blown away by the environments. I do wish the story was considerably better though, it just has no bite to it at all.

The boy finally decided that he was spending his Christmas money on this yeterday so I popped out and grabbed it for him. Quite an odd thing happened where it started doing it's copying from disc thing, let him play the intro and then ground to a halt. Only way I could get the thing to install was to cancel it completely, disconnect the console from the internet, then install it from disc and THEN download the huge patch. Very odd. Meant he couldn't play it yesterday beyond that intro but set his alarm and got up early today to get a bit in before school, said it's amazing so far.

Was this on PS5 by any chance, because this is a relatively common issue I've found with PS5 games, the install / patch update process seems heavily flawed. I now cancel the patch download when installing - it'll look for and download it when starting the installed game anyway. |

Didn't have any issues with my disc copy installing other than the noise which is fairly standard. Been enjoying this so far, just what I needed, fairly light hearted, combat a bit tricky to start with but getting the hang of it now. I wouldn't say it does anything ground breaking but the setting is excellent and it is holding my interest far more than say SW:Fallen order that I found way too clunky and uninspiring. At least this has a good bit of charm about it.
