To further demonstrate how people are acting mad over this, Wired gave the game a 1/10 because not enough LGBT people worked on it.

www.google.com/amp/s/www.wired.com/review/hogwarts-legacy-review/ampI didn't see a score there, I mean it's less of a review and more of their issues with Rowling as they barely mention the game. As it is it's written by someone who's trans and they're fully entitled to their reviews but it still comes across as strange for a publication to ok this as a review because, well it is isn't. Fair enough about the baffling antisemitic tropes, it's amazing that they went down that route of enemies for the game.

The last couple of paragraph makes some huge assumptions. Do they know for a fact that no queer people were involved in the making of the game? Is the quality of a game or a film directly correlated with how many queer people worked on it? Because they basically state both things as facts there.
I think they already landed on the real reason for the decline in quality of the recent films (and perhaps this game if they're right, that's ultimately their opinion) before they landed on that pet theory, Rowling has too much say now, like George Lucas did.

They've removed the score, it was absolutely there, screenshots of it floating around Twitter. The part where its criticised that the graphics are a few generations behind seemed unbelievably petty lol

The score is still there in all its 1/10 glory.
What I just read felt like a release of pent-up disillusionment with the franchise and the author but it was not a review of the game.
That said, the game looked like a generous 5/10 from my brief time looking it over.

The game is easily a 7/10 based on 10 hours or so. The actual missions etc are bang average but the environments, combat, exploration are excellent. Hogwarts castle is exceptionally well done, as are all the locations to be honest.
I think the Guardian review (Keza) gets it spot on and manages to talk about the problems with the game and JKR in a grown up and, dare I say, journalistic way.

Well, Empire magazine have given it three stars, which is what it sounds like based on most people talking about it (arguably it's one of those where you could add an extra star if you love the source material - same is probably true of Fallen Order, tbh). www.empireonline.com/gaming/reviews/hogwarts-legacy/Interesting that the film magazine hasn't mentioned the brouhaha at all, which it doesn't really do when reviewing the films, either.

Knights of the Old Republic is probably a better comparison than Fallen Order. I’d be apprised if KotOR wasn’t the blueprint for this. It’s extraordinarily similar in a number of ways. And similarly if you don’t love the IP what’s left is a fairly clunky but well imagined RPG.

Read that wired article. It's an opinion piece not a review.

As Cubby says, there are some big assumptions being made here.

This video sums up a lot of my feelings on this whole boycott this game issue. It's only about 4 minutes long.
I've been thinking of how to phrase my main misgiving about it and he spells it out quite well. It's easy. There's no sacrifice involved. And it's mostly to make them feel better about themselves than actually doing something positive.
This might be wrong but I get the impression that most of the people saying they're boycotting had no real intention in the first place to buy it anyway, so what have they actually done? Other than actually raise even more awareness of the game, albeit unintentionally.
I tend to have more sympathy with these sorts of causes when there is a tangible sacrifice being made but here I don't see that. Deleting your twitter account for example, would have more of an impact to the target, and would be more of a sacrifice to many people here. But that might be too inconvenient to some.

Isn't the fact that it is something so easy kind of the problem though? If someone is aware of the JK situation and yet still can't do the one thing of stopping themselves from buying a videogame, aka literally doing nothing, then they should probably stop pretending that they give a shit about trans rights.
Also, can twitter just please fuck off and die.

The new Cormac McCarthy book(s) absolutely fucking suck if it helps. I don't mind them so far. It's very different from what I'm used to, but I'm not yet sure if that means I like it or not. It's just... different.

Dunno how far in you are so I’ll spoiler this just in case, but there’s no plot spoilers - He should have moved the schizophrenic bits to Stella Maris, they were just in the way in The Passenger and would have been a welcome break to the absolute non-stop dialog in SM. And while I don’t believe everything needs a plot purpose in a literary novel, there’s just too much left absolutely unresolved.

Fair enough. Maybe I'm just giving him leeway because he's probably my favourite living writer. There's just not really anyone who writes a sentence quite like McCarthy, so I'll hopefully be able to savour that even if I think these (probably his last) books are sub par.

Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy, Liveship Traders trilogy, and Tawny Man trilogy are my favourite fantasy books. They're all part of the same series so should be read in order. She's since followed those up with four Rain Wild Chronicles novels and a final Fitz and the Fool trilogy, but I haven't got to these yet. Met Robin Hobb at the local Waterstones when she was signing her latest book. Quite possibly the smallest person you could imagine. Like a little Yoda lady. And the Farseer books are bloody great! River Wilds got really slow at some points for me. Just fix the bloody ship and get on with it.

Just started playing this...amazing attention to detail and the whole atmosphere is really nailed. Not a huge Potter fan (but have watched the films) and I can see this being something rather special if you are into the universe. Hogwarts is really well realised - really does feel like a real place. Have walked to Hogsmeade and the outdoor environments are stunning. Still very early days (not even a broomstick yet) but I think this could be a winner for me.

The world design is genuinely up there with the best. Mission design is garbage though. And the acting might be the worst.
