You could probably argue that most of those things are actually aimed at man-children and we are firmly in the target demographic

There are some subjects that you’re so desperate to be on the right side of, that you won’t actually proffer your opinion in fear of being called out on it and ostracised. But I feel so strongly about this I’m going to throw caution to the wind and just say it.
Prisoner of Azkaban was the worst book AND film in the series. Should have been called Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Exposition.

A discussion about difficult games and no mention of Ghosts and Goblins? For shame. Because the aforementioned Airwolf is genuinely harder. Kokotoni Wilf says hello

We're listening to the audiobooks with the kids and I've gotta tell ya, we're about four discs into Goblet of Fire and they haven't even gotten to the fucking Goblet yet. Azkaban is great because by comparisson it's short.

Been watching my eldest play all morning thanks to an inset day. Suffers a bit from too many conversations and hours and hours of tutorial, but it does look very good. The world has been captured brilliantly and for fans it looks like a dream come true.

Aye, it's the only decent film in the series and the best book of the lot for my money.

Though I've only read through them all once when I was younger, and that might change being the tired old fuck that I am.

Tbf if I was in his position recieving the amount of shit he gets on Twitter from people who believe they know far more than he does in his particular field and especially in regards to the abuse he's had his regarding his physical appearance, then yeah, I think I would lose my shit now and again.

Steam was always bad, but bloody hell, they need to turn the bloody forum off. What an absolute cesspoll of disgusting attention whores. Have they completely given up moderating there? People seem to get be able to get away with whatever they want.

And not that it excuses it for a second, but likely the same sort of shit women get every day. Not just online.

I read all the books when they first came out and really enjoyed them, even though I was a bit too old to be the target audience (think I was 18 when I read Philosopher's Stone). Listening to the audiobooks now, the world building and overall plot is still as captivating, but blimey they don't half go on a bit. And I'm more sensitive now to how tone deaf they are. So still good, but I've definitely read much better young adult fantasy in the years since.
But we have the books, we have the CDs, we have the films. I'm doing my best to limit what else we need to buy with an official HP sticker on it. The kids haven't asked for the game or even seem to be aware that it exists, and tbh even if I still was happy to have it in the house I'm just not sufficiently arsed about the universe to play it.

The thing that slightly annoys me, even though it probably shouldn't, is when I recommend things that are not Harry Potter (but similar) to adults who have read Harry Potter multiple times. And they seem open to it, but then just go back to Harry Potter.
Yes yes, I know there is comfort and value in reading things over and over. But fucking hell, there's a whole world of great fantasy literature out there! THERE ARE OTHER THINGS

My wife is a big HP fan (the books, not the sauce. She fucking hates sauce, I have no idea what's going on there) and I'd recommend the big hardback illustrated editions, with the art being done by Jim Kay. They're a standard Christmas present when one is released, though it's taking longer between the books coming out due to the increasing size of the normal publication. They're very nicely illustrated.

Yeah, thanks, but unless the kids REALLY ask for it, I'm trying to avoid buying anything HP-related anymore. My niece has a couple of those big illustrated books, and they are very nice.

I remember some statistic about how a sizeable number - maybe even a majority! - of readers of YA fiction, are actually in their 30s or older. Which... like, I genuinely don't want to judge, but it feels like there's something off about that.

Although her world building is decent, some of her writing is just not very good and far too long to get to whatever point of the story she is getting at. Really struggled through some of them due to the boredom I was feeling.
