I'm currently playing the original Jedi Fallen Order, after starting and quickly abandoning it. It is rather good isn't it? Good story nicely portrayed, rich in lore and references to keep fans happy, exploration and combat that suits the setting, I'm even getting to grips with the 3D map (which I thought was rubbish back in 2020).
Plan to move on to Jedi Survivor once done - hope I won't be fed up with it by then...

I got the platinum last year, and I spent most of the time figuring out where the hell I needed to go on the map. I can't remember which planet it was, but I got lost a bunch of times trying to find my way out.. all it needed was a go back to ship button.

I'm a few hours away from the end I think and have absolutely loved playing Survivor.

Can we only bump this thread if it's to tell me it's on game pass at last. Can't wait.

Can we only bump this thread if it's to tell me it's on game pass at last. Can't wait. This is exactly what I was hoping to see info on when I saw this near the top of the recent threads list. May end up caving if it drops to about £20, but otherwise I'm hoping it will be apeparing on Game Pass in the next month or so (ideally, before my current sub runs out around the end of March).

For those of you waiting for it to hit gamepass there's an easy rule of thumb. Games you want always get added around three weeks after you've given up waiting and bought them in a sale.

It was discounted to £25 on the Microsoft store over Xmas. It must be coming soon.
If you liked the first one this is very similar. Some good set pieces and characters.
There is a lot of extra optional stuff and a Dark Souls style hub, can be ignored if you want, but I enjoyed them.
Worth playing, one of the games I enjoyed most last year. Will def go back for a replay of both games one day.

I liked it initially but but even after all those patches there were some technical shoody issues such as the game dying around water in RT mode and HDR breaking in Quality mode after a while as well as textures not loading in. Strangely performance mode had almost no issues. I also felt that it went on a bit too long.

I was glancing earlier whether I should go down the PC or PS5 route and sounds like the PS5 version might be even more broken than the PC. I'm just going to hope I can brute force my way through the crap optimisation (and put up with the shader stutter - I managed it with Elden Ring and it can't be any worse than that!)

It’s okay on pc if you have a beefy pc, I played through it just fine, pre-patch. There’s traversal stutter, but I can live with that if the game is good.

Decided to start this again, and check out the dlss in this. Opening logos stutter like crazy, and the performance is still inconsistent. I’m always above 60 in 4K RT with quality DLSS, so shouldn’t complain, but I wouldn’t call it smooth with the occasional stutter and fps being anywhere from 60 to 120fps. Looks better than FSR though.

Seems the game is now available on EA Play for Xbox and Playstation.
Should be worth a month of subscription. When I come back home from my vacation, anyway.

The performance on my 3060Ti at 1080p kinda sucked and was very inconsistent. Also it precompiled shaders every time the game loaded. Well it claimed to be but the CPU and GPU were at 0.5% and it just sat there for 5 minutes EVERY TIME.
Otherwise a perfectly fun game.

Finished the first level. Loving it so far. Game seems to be locked around 60 for me but I haven’t put on dlss yet and everything is on max and rt on at 1440p.

It’s definitely one of the best looking games I’ve ever played and they’ve nailed the Star Wars vibe. Read lots of bad things about the pc version but maybe they’ve patched all the problems out by now as with dlss on and everything ultra it’s 90fps+.

Generally, it runs fine (but then I have a 4090+5800x3D). However, once in Koboh, things go downhill with frequent stutters and framepacing fuckups. Reloading a save when in Kobo can smooth things out but then it degrades.

Played a bit last night and killed the 1st boss. The game looks really good (having it for xbox one and ps4 would of held the game back)
Glad they didn't remove all your basic skills eg different stances and force powers

Generally hangs around 90 in dlss and 50-60 with it off. Everything on max at 1440p. Are there any draw backs to using dlss?

Do you need to play the original to give this one a go?

rhaegyr There's no required knowledge of the original story-wise, apart from the returning characters (who you will not recognize) and their connection with Cal Kestis. The only drawback I can think of is that you'll probably find it difficult to return to the original after finishing Survivor, if you like it enough to check it out; I guess it would feel a bit limited next to its sequel...

I'd say yes. Some of the story beats do continue into the sequel and character relationships are established in the 1st game.
I'd play the first game anyway as its really good.

Yep loving the first game as clunky and buggy as it is. 100%ed all the planets so far, just onto the last one I think.

Do you need to play the original to give this one a go? Nah, it has a story recap. The sequel is much better in every way and by the time you finish the first I would imagine you'd just be a bit burnt out for the 2nd one.

Great to hear - I liked the first one but not enough to keep going.
Hoping I get on more with the sequel more as it sounds like it's a little better in all departments!

I can't even remember what the story was. I imagine the main character whining at how difficult life is and wondering if he should be a sith or a jedi.

Fallen Order does feature one particularly amazing (and totally unexpected) scene with a particular character which completely caught me off guard.
I'm not going to spoil anything here. I am not even a fan of Star Wars but it sent shivers down the back of my neck. I am sure anyone who has completed the game knows which bit I am talking about. Its worth playing the game just for that moment in my book.

But you have to essentially play all of the game to get there. The game was alright as a proof of concept but not worth it just for that really. The sequel is leaps and bounds and the story in both is gubbins in all honesty. The gameplay is the draw.

I disagree. I thought Fallen Order was great.
A lot of people seemed to dislike it due to the back and forth traversing and lack of fast travel. But this is typical of a Metroidvania which Fallen Order unashamedly is.
I probably like both games equally, but the sequel is definitely more accessible.
