Rorschach Is The Question, not Batman. Yup, Nite Owl II is Batman. Nope. Blue Beetle. Can tell this is the Marvel thread…

Yup, Nite Owl II is Batman. Nope. Blue Beetle. Can tell this is the Marvel thread… Okay okay okay, it's an archetypal Batman-like character. I never realised they resurrected those Charlton characters post-Watchmen and gave them Watchmen-influenced characteristics.

How do you know that’s not the same as Batman?

Batman would have some bat-viagra in his utility belt.

Batman would have some bat-viagra in his utility belt. Yes. This. He's fucking Bruce Wayne. He has a superhuman level of will. He can definitely get it up. Even after a few jars.

Nite Owl is batman too. He's just a different Batman.
It's a long time since I read it, but I do remember Rorschach getting a lot of the best lines and the most 'badass' moments. Maybe we're just trained that the guys who get the best lines and mic-drop moments are the guys we should get behind. Maybe I also just went into it with the basic idea that the protagonist of a superhero comic was always going to be the hero.
TBH, I always thought his costume was cool too.
It was only on re-reading it a few years later that I really got some of the deeper themes that Moore was going for.

Nite Owl is batman too. He's just a different Batman. He's intended to be Blue Beetle as Kal says. He's not intended to be Batman, but because people outside of serious DC fans aren't familiar with Blue Beetle, he reads as Batman to them (as he did to me when I first read the comic). The same is true with The Question/Rorschach and Captain Atom/Dr Manhattan. Certainly it's reasonable to see each as a broader critique of a genre of heroes that relate to them, though, with Nite Owl relating to various gadget-centric masked heroes including Bats, Rorschach covering various "violent avenger"-types like The Punisher, and Dr Manhattan referring to all cosmic-power-level supers like Superman, Green Lantern, etc.

So just to clarify, Spider-Man is based off Walter from the Beano?

Watchmen was originally supposed to be part of the Charlton Comics universe so was written about those specific characters like Blue Beetle and The Question. DC bought Charlton Comics and all the characters and transported those characters into the DC universe. At that point Moore had to change the names of all his characters because they didn’t want him to use them that way.

Moon Knight (who is also, presumably, Batman) was pretty good again this week. However Khonshu is really living up to Blade's "Some motherfuckers are always ice-skating uphill". Steve says "We need to know what the night sky looked like 2000 years ago!" and I, someone who doesn't even have that much archaeological training - probably far less than Layla, though probably more than Steve, immediately thinks "Oh that's easy, it's on the internet, we've been able to calculate accurately that for decades!". But Khonshu doesn't roll like that, and I guess, yeah probably doesn't know about the internet, so instead of going to this website - www.fourmilab.ch/yoursky/help/history.html - or others like it - motherfucker just decides to literally turn back time and get imprisoned in a block of stone. Was it worth it buddy? It would have been like, maybe 2 minutes on the internet. I really hope that in S2 someone takes the piss out of him for that.

Does anyone know if it's recommended to have watched No Way Home before watching Multiverse of Madness? We have seen NWH before of course, but the GF wants to go watch it with another couple who haven't.
