Is it any different to cosplaying or getting a tattoo of the Joker or Darth Vader or someone similar? I'd definitely think somebody with a Joker tattoo is a bit odd. Vader is a bit different, he wasn't sociopath. I mean, say what you want about the Sith but at least it's an ethos.

I met a random guy the other day when I was offloading a load of my old comics, we were merrily chatting away until I mentioned Alan Moore and he showed me his Rorschach tattoo. I don't really know what to say to someone who adores Rorschach. Yeah, it's really weird how people seem to admire Rorschach but it makes sense with how some people think today. Obviously as Mola says you slowly back away before they start to say "we live in a society".

I've only ever seen one person do a Darth Vader cosplay.
They were really short - like shorter than me - and somehow, that took away the menace.

I suppose it's only the same as people that have tattoos of serial killers and, uh, I know a couple of them. Or even the Comedian's smiley face.

I would say having a tattoo of Fred West is quite a bit worse than having a tattoo of Rorschach.

Wasn't Vader the best part of 7'?...
I wonder how many times they got "little short for a sith, aren't you?"

Maybe he was Dark Helmet. It was almost as funny. Not quite, but almost.

I wish Tony Scott had been given Man of Steel instead of Snyder. Was he in the running? Oh man. These flashy directors, Snyder and Bay and people like that... Scott could do anything they could do, but had heart and humour and he could really direct actors too. I'd have loved to see his Superman.

Imagine if we had got McG's Superman with Josh Hartnett and Abram's script including Superman Kung Fu, Lex Luthor as a Kryptonian and a liquid superman costume in a can.

Nolan gave them a shortlist that had Tony Scott (Top Gun), Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans), Duncan Jones (Source Code), Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), Zack Snyder, Ben Affleck and Matt Reeves.
I guess he gave them options for different directions as all of them would end up with very different films.

I remember Affleck being in the running and thinking he would have been an interesting choice. All of them would have been interesting, to be fair. I think I'd have preferred most of them...

I think Affleck was even selected, but turned it down as he didn’t have any experience with directing action scenes and didn’t want to screw it up.

Is it any different to cosplaying or getting a tattoo of the Joker or Darth Vader or someone similar? It's definitely different from Darth Vader, because Vader isn't associated with any specific attitude (the Sith shit associated with him as vague as hell). He doesn't really have much of a philosophy, he's just Palpatine's errand boy until he isn't. I might think someone with a Vader tattoo was thus shallow, but not like, a problem. He's also at least an actual badass at times, and people with tattooes of badasses, tend not be as awful as people with tattooes of losers, in my experience. Dumb, but not necessarily awful. Joker it depends entirely on which Joker. BTAS Joker? Who cares, it's probably someone who likes the aesthetic (which is strong). Same with Nicholson. Jared Leto or Joaquin Phoenix joker? UH OH. That's like six red flags at once. Seven if it's Phoenix. There's obviously a very specific antisocial/sociopathic/shitbird attitude associated with those latter-day Jokers. Rorshach? If recent Joker is 7 red flags, that's like 10+. The only comics thing immediately worse would be a Punisher skull with the thin blue line/black and white US flag in it. Rorshach is a terrible embarrassing piece of shit, with horrific attitudes, severe mental illness, and he's also pathetic and sad, so like, not only is that person associating themselves with a severely mentally-ill ultra-misogynist serial-murderer, he's associating himself with a really low-status and uncool one, which like, I hate to use the word "yikes", but jesus wept that's maximum "YIKES". There's no question it's different. I mean, just think about the people you've met who liked Rorschach, and compare and contrast against those who liked some form of The Joker or Darth Vader. They're in a whole other category of awful. Liking him is different from suggesting he might, largely by accident, have been trying to do the right thing at the end of Watchmen.

You’re assuming anyone that gets the tattoo or dressed up as the character actually knows much more than ‘they look cool’.

Haaaaaaaahhh... When I was a young warthog I very nearly got a Punisher skull tattoo (I was very much obsessed with punishing) so I should recuse myself from this.

I’ve seen a Rorschach tattoo with “I’M NOT LOCKED IN HERE WITH YOU, YOUR(sic) LOCKED IN HERE WITH ME” text.
Oy.

How about Cerebus the Aardvark?
That was cool, and then it really really wasn't.

Bartender at my old local in Manchester had a full sleeve tattoo of this: Back in the mid 00s though before the internet ruined everything.

I must admit that the first time I read Watchmen, when I was much younger, I thought Rorschach was the coolest. Since he was at first basically Batman.

The only comic book tattoo I'd get is an Autobot symbol.
