I gave Daredevil to my nephew as a child, not realising it would lead to us all having to watch it with him. He loved it. Probably the worst superhero movie this side of Supergirl.

Supergirl does have a terrific Jerry Goldsmith score, faaar better than the film deserves.

Elektra is worse. Blade 2 is worse. Superman 4...
Supergirl is such a weird movie. I want to like it, but they just went out of their way to make almost everything inexplicably bad.

Blade 2 is worse my ass. Blade THREE maybe.
I loved the Supergirl movie as a child. I want to see it again someday but I do remember noticing on an older rewatch that the film simply doesn’t make any sense. I like that Peter O’Toole though. He should make more movies.

I'd argue that Daredevil is also better than Spawn.
Spawn had a bitchin' soundtrack though.

My overriding memory as a child was Peter O'Toole repeatedly saying 'squirt'.

Steel is dumb and cheap fun but probably not “good”
The JLA movie has got to be right down there too with its D grade cosplay outfits and rewriting everyone’s characters

My daughter loved Supergirl, so it kind of did its job imo, even if objectively it's a bit shit.

Supergirl shares just enough DNA with the Reeve films for me to love it like a child that committed a horrendous crime.

Yeah, I can't bring myself to condemn it, even if it is pretty much objectively bad. Maybe it's the shard DNA thing.
Interesting that your daughter loved it Dougs, I'd been avoiding mentioning it because i knew if i did my daughter would want to see it, and I thought she'd find it a big disappointment.

I remember people saying the ninjas in Netflix Daredevil were a bit shit but they really are a weird drag turning up with their supernatural vibe and wave upon wave of cannon fodder

Yeah. Drags the show down for me. The non-Stick, non-Hand stuff is excellent. But half each season is dumb ninja shit. Just focus on Matt, Kingpin and Punisher and it goes from a flat 8 to a high 9.

Felt like they rushed Punisher’s story in DD season 2 to fit in the ninja shit but agree that story is a 9 but weighed down by a 7/8 story with The Hand

My daughter loves a female protagonist. Anything with a strong female lead who she can identify with is right up there. She's not watched it again mind you, so didn't make that big a impression.

Jessica Jones seems like good role model material. Have you tried that?

She's an alcoholic dealing with PTSD, and she bones Luke Cage. Not sure Dougette's age, but that show might be best for her when she's older.

I figured you could be sarcastic, but didn't want Dougs to take your advice and go through that awkardness.
With a wife I'd let it slide, cause she could bust his balls about it, but with a young daughter? 🤭

Haha, I have seen enough of JJ to know dfunked was being sarcastic! I didn't finish S1 though, got bored.

Yeah, mine too. Opened my eyes on how important Representation is. Felt like they rushed Punisher’s story in DD season 2 to fit in the ninja shit but agree that story is a 9 but weighed down by a 7/8 story with The Hand Even in Season 1, the single episode with the mystical ninja bullshit was the worst episode. It's weird, because usually adding ninjas to something makes it better. I think the problem they had was that they pitched the DD tv show as pretty gritty and realistic, and most of the Kingpin/Punisher stuff was, but then the ninja stuff was all mystical and seemed like it came from a different show. In something like Arrow it'd have worked much better. That was one of the problems they had with Defenders in general. They'd largely set up JJ, DD and LC as being somewhat realistic (ignoring the superpowers, but even those were from accidents etc..). Then Iron Fist was all mystical, and the ninja stuff for Defenders was all mystical, and it was hard to gel those shows together. I still like the Stick and Elektra characters, but the plot line left a lot to be desired, and Stick in particular was best used in small doses.

I was so irked with S2 of DD that I haven't bothered with S3. That and Figgy or Foggy or whatever his name was. Annoying twat.

As someone who loves magic ninjas and hates the Punisher, I was really excited for the Hand stuff. But I agree, it's really boring, and the Elektra stuff was such a letdown, especially in Defenders, even though the actress was great.
Meanwhile the Publisher stuff was fantastic, especially the prison fight.
Caveat: I've not seen season 3 yet.
Incidentally, all the Marvel series are leaving Netflix at the end of the month, presumably to go to Disney+.

I’m watching S3 now and its going in a direction I like so far. Possibly on course to be the strongest of the three despite one of the main arcs being a type of story I’m generally over nowadays superhero feels sad being a superhero If I have time before they get taken down I think I’ll start on Punisher too. Although I am a little concerned that without the light/shade of the DD cast it might be a bit repetitive if its just Castle doing killings.

I probably should watch The Publisher series as well, as everyone says it's good, despite me hating the character. It was ok in DD though.

The first series of Punisher does a good job of balancing what die-hard fans of the character want (ie copious punishing, and it IS very violent) and making Castle an actual character with PTSD, as well as commenting on the treatment of veterans in the US etc. It covers a lot of ground and isn't the Second Amendment Masturbation Tool the comics often were.

I WISH there was a character called The Publisher, violently rejecting scripts, kicking sub-eds in the balls when they let a transpositional error through.
THE PUBLISHER.

Seeing all those American cops with punisher skulls on their riot gear does make me chuckle when you know that if the Punisher were actually a real person he would totally be against the morons who worship him and most likely would kill them for being corrupt as fuck.

I thought S3 was the best of it. Just finished it and I agree S3 is the best season of Daredevil. I’m not really familiar with the comics so don’t know how any of this chimes with any particular arc or the characters in general but this felt spot on. No ninja shit, the heroes back in an underdog position, a great set of villains, drama that would hold up even without the superhero stuff. Its got a slow start due to how Defenders ended (I assume) but once its up and running its hard to see how they could have done it better. Question is Are the MCU versions of Murdock and Fisk these exact characters because the Netflixverse is part of the MCU or are they multiverse alternatives because the Netflixverse is separate? And how does Fisk gain the power to eat bullets and grenades?
