I think the only ones that really matter for the MCU right now are the DD and, less so, Pun series. Iron Fist certainly isn’t coming back, and nothing has been mentioned about JJ or LC. This is true, but I'd definitely watch JJ as it's the best Netflix Marvel series. Season 1, at any rate. |

Jessica Jones and Luke Cage were by far the highlights for me. Punisher was great too. Daredevil was mixed IMO. I know it's most people's favorite, but for me it was always only half the season that was good. The stuff with Fisk or Punisher was excellent, but as soon as ninjas, Stick, the Hand came into the picture, it was a sharp drop. And Iron Fist was ass.

Second season of Iron Fist actually worked when he teamed up with Luke Cage, it was also better than the first but then it would be hard to be worse.

They all had their ups and downs. Even the best ones were a couple of episodes too long and daredevil ended up making ninjas really boring.
But, yeah, the only really bad ones were the defenders and iron fist S1. Iron Fist s2 upped its game by ignoring iron fist and concentrating on the girl.

I loved S1 of that, like, it was great, and so did my wife (who is normally strictly opposed to "superhero stuff"), so we were looking forward to S2, but it basically unwatchable levels of awful right from the get-go. I think we limped into the second episode before it was so dire we gave up. It was even less watchable than Iron Fist S1, where you felt like, maybe, somehow, it might get good (and the supporting cast was strong). And like I will normally watch literally anything with Krysten Ritter in. But not JJ S2. And equally the only ones that were genuinely good were probably Daredevil S1 and JJ S1. Though Daredevil S3 had moments. Luke Cage I wanted to love but that was two seasons of mediocrity and really, really bad chemistry (jesus stop casting Rosario Dawson with guys who totally give off a "not into her" vibe and vice-versa!). |

I thought Daredevil season 1 and 3 were brilliant, and the punisher storyline in season 2 was great, but the Electra stuff was pretty bad.
It’s a pity they had to tie it into Defenders, which was also ass because Iron Fist, because it would be good to just have those three seasons of Daredevil be self-contained.

Jessica Jones S2 and S3 were definitely not as good as S1, though I didn't think they were terrible. The pace was just very slow, and they were kinda depressing. S1 really benefited from having Tennant as an awesome villain. The villain in S2 was a lot more unclear, and the villain in S3 was a decent bad guy, but not very fun.
I didn't know Luke Cage was in Iron Fist season 2, but it did seem like he had somewhat ok chemistry with the Iron Fist guy in Defenders, and I think that was a thing in the comics, so I can kinda see that working.
But, really, they bit off more than they could chew with 4 (and then 5) shows. Luke Cage showing up in JJ s2 or s3 would have helped a lot, but he was off trying to save IF.
Maybe if they'd mixed the Iron Fist stuff into the other 3 shows, rather than making it its own show, it'd have worked better in small doses, and added a bit of energy to a few of the other shows when they needed it.
Both Luke Cage and JJ s2-3 suffered from just being a bit too slow paced and hard work at times. The netflix marvel shows didn't have the banter and comedy that the MCU movies and other shows had, which was refreshingly dark and gritty at first, but when it was going on in 4/5 shows for 2/3 seasons it all just became a bit much.
JJ s1 was dark, but Ritter and Tennant still had enough banter to keep it energized.
I don't think I'd have wanted them to turn them into full on MCU banter wagons, because then they'd lose what made them unique, but they needed a bit more lightness and humor at times.
The bits of Defenders where they were just hanging out in a chinese restaurant and bickering worked pretty well imho.

I just found the Iron Fist guy completely repellent. Couldn’t finish an episode of the show, and sat through Defenders with a pair of Clockwork Orange glasses because I needed the Daredevil tie-in before Season 3.
Apparently he’s never going to get work again. He was fine as a gay jouster though, maybe we could see more of that.

I just really like how Jessica Jones really leans into the misanthropic, heavy drinking, hard-boiled detective archetype.
That's she's a pretty cool alternative rock type, with some enhanced abilities, makes it even better. And on an entirely superficial level I think she's hot.
I do agree that S2 and 3 weren't as good and they did drag a bit. As, I think it was Nick said above, the Netflix shows are all too long. They'd all do well if they were 4 episodes shorter. (Except Defenders. That could do with being an episode shorter though).

I mean, to be fair the character has multiple personalities and the British one is just one, but sheesh, not a great way to start out. I heard someone trying to make out he was doing a specific East End Jewish accent, but that's total bullshit, because I friends who are Jewish and from the East End, and whilst that is a real accent, that is not what he is doing here at all. It's just a mess. It's kind of weird because a lot of Hollywood actors can now do pretty great British accents, and some British actors can do really good American ones, but it's sort of random as to who (and some, like Gwyneth Paltrow, can do a good one one movie, and a terrible one the next - must be down to the voice coach). On the other hand the costume is amazingly comics-perfect and not the approach I expected them to take at all. Looks way better than say, Falcon's costume at the end of that. |
