I’d say watch all five because four of them are good and one of them is better than its reputation despite it looking like the director was trying to sabotage the movie

Yeah I’d agree. I didn’t have fond memories of Spider-Man 3 but watching it again recently it was far far better than I remembered

It’s developed a bit of a cult following and places like Raimi Memes have turned it into effectively a B-Movie.
I still think it’s mostly terrible but watching it tongue in cheek does help.

So I haven't seen the new Spider-Man movie yet. With JJJ, Green Goblin and Doc Ock making an appearance, I guess it would be prudent to re-watch Raimi's Spider-Man 1 and 2. Could I skip 3 as well as Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 (the last one I haven't seen at all)? No spoilers please. I rewatched all the previous Spideys before going to see No Way Home. I'd never seen the Amazing movies before, and I'm glad I watched them. I think that you could probably see it without losing TOO much, but there's some thematic stuff - rather than plot stuff - that's referenced quite heavily, especially from Amazing 2. So I'd recommend watching that one at least.

Hot take: Spiderman Into the Spiderverse is the best out of all of them.
(not sure if that's a hot take)

though there’s a fair amount from ASM2. that's kind of a surprise, as that's probably the one that the least number of people have seen. I'm in the same boat as ozthegweat in that that's the only one I haven't seen. Not only haven't seen, but know almost nothing about.

There’s some clever payoffs for ASM2 in this movie, so it’s worth seeing it ahead of it.

ASM2 was on itvHub last week and I didn't watch it because I assumed it wouldn't be important

I mean, it’s not important in terms of understanding the plot or having a complete storyline, but it adds some additional depth to several scenes. That’s as much as I’ll say though. Tobey Parker 1 and 2 are probably the only ones really essential to understanding what’s going on.

ASM2 still made $700m worldwide which isn’t much less than the rest. It’s probably a similar number that have seen it in the cinema as the Tobey films that are also interested in this.

Thanks everyone. SM:NWH won't be available outside of cinemas for a while, so we won't skip any of the 5. With great wait come great rewatch opportunities.

Yeah, the second TH one is still on iPlayer until Sunday.
Never seen the Amazing films, but tempted to catch up on them now before finally seeing NWH this weekend. But I also don't want to be all Spidered out, so wondering if I should just save them for another time. Also need to get round to Spiderverse at some point. And may even check out the games on PS.

The Playstation games are the best superhero games I’ve ever played - including the Arkham series. They should be in the sales by now too.

Received the Raimi trilogy on 4K disc for Christmas. 1 and 2 are still corkers. I think I actually came away finding the first slightly better (a reverse of my memories), but I still loved them both. As much as I really enjoy the MCU films, there is something forgettable and frivolous about each, as we are always looking towards the next big event in the bigger ongoing stories. By comparison, these earlier films where continually iconic and everything instantly came back to me as I watched, despite it being years since seeing them.
Interestingly, NWH really highlights this, treading on old ground and really showing how great those old films and villains were. Perhaps it is just now that we expect to see these films crossing over, but I can't imagine there being so much energy created by a film that brought back Michael Keaton's Vulture (I even had to double check who played him, initially thinking it was Woody Harrelson!).
Haven't watched 3 yet, but looking forward to it. Not actually seen it since it came out and I remembered liking it more than the general reception.

I dunno, think I've spidered myself out.
Rewatched Spiderman Homecoming with the kids before it went off iPlayer. It's the first MCU movie they've seen. On second viewing for me, despite appreciating many of the individual elements, I found myself not really caring about it all that much. It has lots of good jokes, Karen is great. MJ is great. Keaton is great. But... meh. I think it's all so lightweight and consequence free that it's hard to actually get invested in the stakes.
I much preferred Spiderman 1, but I wonder if that's just because it was before I overdosed on spidermans. Kids said they preferred Spiderman 1 as well.
I'm gonna avoid the Amazings and give it a week or so before trying No Way Home. I can always watch AS2 later to catch up on any references.

ASM 1 is so incredibly boring for the first hour; I was going to try and watch it and 2 before I see the new one but I’m not sure I can be bothered to waste my time with them now.

To be fair, ASM2 is the key one for NWH. You could skip the first without issue. You know he’s Spider-man, he’s dating Gwen and Lizard is the villain. That’s all that’s required from that one.

I enjoyed Hawkeye, though Renners bloatface was kinda offputting. As were his bloatfingers.

I've just started a chronological run through of the extended mcu. Kicked it off last night with Captain America. Captain Marvel up next. I expect I'll run out of steam somewhere around Agents of Shield. Assuming I don't, I reckon it will probably take most of the year as Mrs Hermit has no interest outside of the films so I'm planning to do the whole lot in 1 hour/1 episode chunks in the time I stay up after she's fucked off to bed.

Before kids, I used to allow myself the luxury of a post dinner power nap between 8:30pm - 10:00pm. I'd then be suitably refreshed for a three hour gaming/movie session before bed. These days I grab the golden hour when the missus has gone to bed. The only exception being the single time a month I might actually be granted sexy time.
