No, it seems to be a common criticism. Certainly my X-men fanboy mate has been complaining about it for weeks.
It seems to be the Marvel product with the lowest viewership too, which is completely unsurprising, but might not help in doing anything with it or like it again.

It pretty much did. I’ve rewatched it recently and every episode has a decent amount of action + a b plot going on alongside the main one. It’s more graphic now than it was.

(Marvel TV shows come out) Fanboys: it’s too slow! Nothing ever happens of consequence! (Xmen97 comes out) Fanboys: no not like that! Edit: I actually can’t remember the last Marvel tv series which had so many standout moments. And I think it portrays the different ideologies extremely well. Magneto was right!

They managed to keep the cyclops/jean/wolverine love triangle simple and quick (and that's with the upgrade to a square with Madelyne).
Compared to the onscreen snooze fest it's great! See also Rogue, ooh I can't touch people.

Do non-Font Geek people hate X-Men 97 then? I've only read anything about it here and I assumed it was getting universal love.
Not watched any yet, but looking forward to it. I did watch the old series as a kid, but couldn't really tell you much about it now, other than I liked it quite a bit.

Magneto’s horrible long glove outfit in episode 1 aside, I’m baffled that its catching any criticism from fans. Its basically everything you could have wanted it to be and more.
The pace is one of the best things about it, especially compared to the live action MCU shows.

I wonder if its audience size is just limited just due to it being a retro-looking cartoon based on an old cartoon that a lot of MCU fans won't have seen.

Admittedly, everything about its presentation screams ‘this is for nostalgia addled 40-45yr olds and no one else’ which is likely scaring off anyone who isn’t literally me. But once it gets moving the quality of the show itself escapes that potential dead end I think.
Even if it doesn’t have super wide appeal I think if you’re remotely interested in X-Men, Marvel or enjoyed a show like Invincible then you’d be into this.

‘this is for nostalgia addled 40-45yr olds and no one else’ Which would explain why it's so popular on FG I guess

The thing I do not get is the pace. When I read the comics, the stories and characters slowly evolved. And it was great. The animated show doesn’t bother with that. It just tears through everything. And it is great.

Yeah, it feels like some episodes have enough main events that would cover 3 or 4 episodes back in the the day. It's brilliant!

My only fear for future seasons is that the showrunner was fired. I don’t know how much influence he had on writing or storylines or whatever, but man this is such a high bar to follow.

The second season is written and some of the third. He wasn’t the only key writer

It feels like they’ve gone back to being heavily influenced by important stories from the comics too so its got a good foundation. The original was always best when adapting classic arcs and occasionally dire when it moved away from the source.

If they're burning through all the major x-men plots from the comics, isn't that gonna cause them problems when they need a plot for their new x-men films?
I guess they can always do Phoenix Saga again...

Well seeing as X-Men and all it's spin-offs have been going for around oooh almost 70 years now I'm going to go out on a limb and say I think they'll be fine.

Vision spin-off officially greenlit, coming 2026, Star Trek: Picard's Terry Matalas is the showrunner: www.empireonline.com/tv/news/marvel-orders-vision-spin-off-series-starring-paul-bettany/I feel this is a good development. I wonder if having (essentially) a "TV universe" and a "movie universe" and having them only rarely cross over or reference each other might be the best bet going forward. Also, Picard season 3 was really good so I'm happy Matalas is on board.

Watch as Picard comes to terms with his mortality whilst Data, now called the Vision, recovers from dying in Nemesis.

X-Men 97 really was spectacular. First four episodes were very enjoyable but it just felt like a good update, but then episode 5 onwards it just shifts gears magnificently. It's the best thing Marvel Studios have done for since End Game.
What I really like is they kept the whole soap opera aspect intact. The character interactions and convoluted love triangles are an important part of the X-Men.
Hope season 2 keeps this up. I know the showrunner was fired so I hope the unique character of this series isn't lost.

I believe they're already producing season 3 now.

Now that most people on here who are likely to watch have seen it I think I feel spoiler safe to say that I think that moment in X-Men 97 isn’t the best moment in Marvel since Endgame, I think its probably the best including Endgame. It hits so hard then every single frame is ratcheting up the action and emotional weight until it finally breaks into silence. Stunning. And completely out of the blue.

Absolutely, actually, that moment is so well done.
The entire episode is amazing, actually, but the final sequence is honestly one of the best things I've ever seen on TV, and the emotional impact felt earnt.

I was having a look at buying tickets for Furiosa next week and then also Deadpool in July. Interestingly, the showing of Furiosa I wanted to book had not sold any seats yet, whereas already there were maybe 20-30 bookings for Deadpool.
I know it's not like-for-like (film that's been out for a week versus a film's opening couple of days), and you might say "well of course Deadpool is more popular". But with the performance of superhero films recently, it wasn't necessarily a given.
I maintain my opinion that Deadpool & Wolverine is going to be absolutely huge. If it's really good, then it might make a billion.

It definitely feels like the first proper event film in terms of hype since Endgame. Probably helps that they've slowed output a bit and it's the only MCU film this year.

There are just so many outstanding moments in that episode. “A promise was made..” *begin epic orchestral version of the xmen theme* AND “We shall not live our days wondering if we could have saved more” AND “Habe keine angst” AND “Gambit sees your bet.. and RAISES IT” AND “The name’s Gambit, mon ami.. remember it.” AND OF COURSE “Sugar.. I can’t feel you..”

Definitely, although I think the last "big hype" superhero movie was No Way Home. I wonder if one of the problems the MCU has had in the last two years is there was quite a bit of hype going into some films - Multiverse of Madness, say - where people thought they'd be a bit different, or would really advance the overall story, but they didn't do that? (I did like MoM but it didn't really do much with the multiverse concept all things considered)
