I don't think a single game this year has come close to the quality of It Takes Two. Played it through with a buddy and really enjoyed it. I loved the way you could download a demo/friend pass version of the game that let you join a friend that had the full version and play it though together. I assume the daft take two lawsuit thing was sorted regarding the name?

I wish I liked Elden Ring but the sheer enormity of it puts me off even trying again really Well that’s ruined my Christmas:(

So apparently I've not got a Switch game since last Christmas and Steam says I played 7 games that game out this year 2 of which I played a bunch of in early access last year and 1 of which is Dwarf Fortress. Which is the greatest game ever but not a 2022 game really.
So: 1. Total Warhammer 3 - War with a vengeance 2. Stray 3. Victoria 3 4. (for the sake of completeness) Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate: Daemonhunters. As one subtitle is never enough

We need a random outburst from someone hating a game before anyone decides.

For me it's Elden Ring and it's not close. I fell deeply and profoundly in love with that game at the time; in hindsight its lore isn't as glorious as Bloodborne or DSIII but my god it pulled me in for about 120 hours. I don't think I've ever played a game quite so intensely.
Over the last week or so I've thoroughly been enjoying God of War: 2018 Edition on PS5. I'm less arsed about the open world elements; I can't be arsed rowing my stupid boat around the map to hunt for macguffins. But the core plot and gameplay loop are really absorbing. Might treat myself to Ragnarok in the new year.

Added a ton of games to my wishlist from this thread. So thanks, I guess.

Stray looks so lovely, and the concept is great, but the story/quests/robot-companion bits sound a bit odd. I want to just be a cat and do cat stuff.

1. Elden Ring - open world Souls. Yes please. 2. Sifu - what a game. Surprised its not in more lists and I could easily have had it first but the sheer hours I put into Elden Ring means it has to be top. 3. Err, Madden 23, because even though people hate it I've played a lot of it and enjoy it.

1: A Plague Tale Requiem...for a dream (might be mixing up genre's there but Jen Con Oh my word!) 2: GoW Raggycoc
Only other games I have played released in this year:
Stray, "on hold" it is ok...dogs are better than cats, apart from my beloved Tabitha rip. Tiny Tina. completed, it was ok Saints Row. binned, It was not ok Callisto Prototocol. "on hold" It was ok High on life. completed, I enjoyed Horizon FW: Only played about 2 hours, but love what I have played so far, this would probably make the list. Elex II, yet to start.
3:Vampire Survivors. Playing and enjoying, so on that bombshell, game 3 is:

Just me then! Although had I bought Xenoblade 3, I may have had a different answer.

For me, it's definitely Marvel Snap, and this is someone who pre-ordered God of War Ragnarok for his PS5.

Elden Ring Vampire Survivors Crimson Clover World EXplosion Akai Katana
That's everything I've played that came out this year unless you count Risk of Rain 2's DLC, which I've played the fuck out of.

OK I've remembered a game I've played actually from this year that's worth celebrating - Signalis.

Nothing from the current year as per usual.
I was a bit surprised about all the games I have played this year. Half of them feel like I played them last year or the year before... Long year indeed.
1. Necromunda - Hired Gun (2021)* 2. Disco Elysium (2019)** 3. Pathologic 2(2019)***
*That's the only easy pick as I somehow never completely stopped playing it ever since the first playthrough. ** Didn't click quite as well for me as for some other people, but there is so much good about it and so little to really complain about. *** Didn't quite finish it (too weak, too sick, too hungry), but it was difficult to find anything else that deserves being included. P2 feels like it turned out exactly as it was supposed to.
Honorable mentions: Inquisitor (2012) & Vampyr (2018)

Awesome. Still will never, ever play Elden Ring, or any of From Software's bevy of try-hard, no-difficulty-settings games.
