How have people not got vampire Survivors in the lists? Best £3 I spent on a game for a decade. I take it this will run fine on a Series S? I'm considering buying one to play this game. Pretty sure it would run on a toaster it looks like a commodore 64 game

Looking at my played list for 2022 I only had three games that were released this year lol.
1. XENOBLADES 3 Might be recency bias but Xenoblades blew me away. Loved the story/fucking loved the music! And found the combat incredibly addictive. Completely hit me unaware as I have never played these games before. Dabbled in a few jrpgs but as those on the switch forums will know, I am now gobbling as many of them up, like some greedy pig for truffles.
2. Elden Ring
Baffled this isnt my fixed in number 1. I am a massive souls fan and played all of them to death. I couldnt escape the feeling that they had a huge pool of assets from all the games and stiched them together for an open world.
Dont get me wrong. Its still incredible! And had some amazing moments but I think XBC edges it just just slightly but i think this is more due to "freshness"
3. F12022 my only other game from 22. Need it for the sim. Its not assetto corsa c but its it's only way to race f1 cars. Racing is still frustrating but TT battles with my mate is always fun.
Notable mention for a game I completed but not released in 22.
Slay the spire. Absolute gaming crack, should come with a health warning.

3. Or maybe Steel Rising, I had a really good time with it, glitches, bugs and all Ahh, I just got that a couple of days ago. The Bastille Edition is on sale on PSN at the moment. I’m not sure if it’ll be my game of the year in hindsight, as I’m not the biggest fan of Soulslikes (Elden Ring is definitely not on my list), but I do appreciate how much more manageable it is than other games in its genre. And I want to root for Spiders and their French AA charm. Stranger of Paradise probably has my favorite version of this style of combat though. I liked how the different Final Fantasy jobs played. The game as a whole is dumb as hell though. It's a bit of an indulgence having it in a GOTY list but I had a really good time with it. It's charmingly nuts in its setting, story and atmosphere. Absolutely with you on the AA charm of Spiders.

1) Elden Ring 2) Salt & Sacrifice 3) Vampire Survivors
Elden Ring was pretty great and I didn't think it would succeed as an open-world game. It was too long by far; if they'd ended it at Leyendell I'd have been happy. But lots of incredible moments.
I'm not too sure about Vampire Survivors, it's tasty but ultimately unnourishing, like a Pot Noodle.

Similar to damagedinc above, I bought 4 games that actually came out this year, and one I haven't even started /o\. So my top 3: 1) Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Utterly brilliant. I played the other two but this one is on a whole new level. Story, characters, everything. Over 70 hours in and I don't want it to ever end. Then, really far behind: 2) Triangle Strategy I was enjoying this, although it was not really hooking me (yet) like FFTA on the GBA. "Temporarily" abandoned in favour of XC3. 3) Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga Fun, best Lego game in years. Wanted to play a Lego game, this fit the bill perfectly. Besides these I also got Nier:Automata for the Switch, but I only got as far as opening the box (it was a good deal and will start this as soon as / if XC3 ever ends.

Tbh I had forgotten about Shredders Revenge.
It was fine, I didn't live it tbh but it passed the time will enough.
So I guess that is my GOTY by default.

1. Elden Ring, and other than that I've only played Horizon FW from this year which was a big disappointment.

1. Elden Ring. 2. Evil Dead (I've put more hours into this than every other game I've played this year combined, I think). 3. Return to Monkey Island.
Honourable mentions:
Stray Pokémon Scarlet (way more fun than it had any right to be, honestly)

I know I haven't played GoW: Gobbledygook so I'm possibly biased a bit, but I have looked into its soundtrack a bit, and good as it may be I'm having trouble putting it above both Elden Ring and Xenoblade in terms of best soundtrack...
And I will die on the hill that Xenoblade deserved at least a finalist on best performance. I'm not saying necessarily win it, but come on...

By virtue of being the only games released this year that I've played much.
1. Vampire Survivors 2. MiniGolf Maker (came out of early access) 3. Different Strokes

Elden Ring and Signalis - they're the only two I've completed.
No doubt Xenoblade 3, Bayonetta 3, Norco and Pentiment will be up there once I've finished them, particularly the former.

FH5 is probably the best game I've played that's released this year, but it's not amazing, it's more of a comfort food game. 1) Forza Horizon 5 (not as good as FH4) 2) Total Warhammer III (not as good as TWII, yet) 3) Pokémon Legends Arceus (it's ok) Trying to think of a list I realise I've been so boring this year, barely branching out in to unique experiences. The most fun I've had gaming this year has been playing heavily modded Skyrim. Should I buy Dwarf Fortress to be less dull? FH5 was on my list at first too, but turns out it was Nov last year.

Pretty sure it would run on a toaster it looks like a commodore 64 game Haha, you'd be amazed at how badly it ran in the past. It's presumably finally on the new engine now though if they're porting to mobile, so not as single core CPU bound.

Is it a terrible year or are we all now old farts and game less? I can’t really afford the time or price of AAA new releases these days. Plus there aren’t that many big titles that excite me enough that I can’t wait for a sale. I think Prodeus might be the most expensive new release I’ve bought this year. Elden Ring and the new GoW are on the wishlist but GoW2018 was only a 7/10 for me more of the same will need a big price crash and Elden Ring will need me to put my son up for adoption to free up the time. DS1 took my three years to finish playing it alongside my phd so I’m guessing Elden Ring should see me through to retirement.

Is it a terrible year or are we all now old farts and game less? If a year with Legends Arceus, Sifu, Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring, Triangle Strategy, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga, Mario Strikers, FE Warriors Three Hopes, Stray, the Live A Live remake, Xenoblade 3, Plague Tale Requiem, Vampire Survivors, Bayonetta 3, Sonic Frontiers, GoW Ragnarok, Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, the Crisis Core remake and so many others is a bad year, I'm terrified of what a "good" year might do to the household's wallets...

I think it's been a pretty decent year and I've still yet to play (or finish) some potential greats.
It's no 98 though.

...as for me, my GOTY 2022 is Elden Ring (quelle surprise), as I spent the best part of my rather limited game time on that and some older releases I meant to try/finish like BloodBorne, Sekiro and Uncharted 4...

1. Fortnite 2. Tomb Raider Anniversary 3. Guitar Hero World Tour
I guess Fortnite counts as this year, as it's endless. I don't think I've played any games released this year.
Lego Star Wars was ok, but we're getting a bit over the Lego games format. Firewatch was a bit of a disappointment. Rebel Galaxy Outlaw doesn't seem to have grabbed me.
Mario Kart Wii is good, but I still prefer 64. New Super Mario Bros is too infuriating. We put a lot of time into those though.
Just Dance is a good workout.

It was a pretty mediocre year for me personally. Elden Ring surpassed even my wildest expectations; Horizon and Ragnarok effectively cancelled each other out, with one being better than I'd hoped and the other being worse; and I'll be going into 2023 *still* waiting to get my hands on The Witcher 3 so I can play it for the first time. Nothing unexpected came out of the AAA sphere to knock my socks off, as Returnal did last year. Oh, and the indies that interested me were either older titles (Dead Cells, Slay the Spire, The Binding of Isaac), or haven't yet come out physically (The Legend of Bum-bo, Inscryption). Some of it's my fault for only buying physical games, and much of the rest can be explained by the factors damagedinc mentioned, so this isn't a complaint so much as an observation.
