Played the first section and hit the open world, everything I wanted for the sequel. It's fucking great Had a panicky fight around a downed helicopter, random mutant pig and a couple of bandits, radiation, bleeding everywhere, grenades trying to flush me out, bullets pinging metal and accidently drinking vodka in the middle of a firefight. Just perfect. is this the small swamp area after meeting zhorik and he says there is a stash here for you? I waded over to it and heard noisy splashing and rustling and some dog thing came at me. Utterly panicked like a noob and emptied my pistol clip into it. I continued looking for the stash but them heard more noises and saw flashlights and more dogs coming down the embankment. I legged it away and circled around back to the cabin picking off the dogs before finishing the last one off with my knife. The guards though, they're already dead. Something fucked them up.

Gah you guys. Can't you just say it's good and there are loads of bugs, so I don't buy it yet...

Had a couple of hours on it and it's great so far. Not encountered any bugs as of yet. Plays great on my pc.

I'm off to rescue somebody or at least find their body. I'm using my foot pedals again for the leaning, last I was doing this was my tarkov escapades. Picked off a bandit and then ran off into the woods like a little bitch but then I was leaning left and right while using multiple trees as cover and obscuring their lines of sight. They have grenades though and can flush me out. Gotta stay on the move man.
I've just had a go on my son's series s and while it's defo a lower FPS than pc it's very very playable. I can't use a pad for it though, it feels way too sluggish with the stick response but tested the m+k which he has hooked up and it works great. Infinitely more responsive. I say ifintite, it's still 30fps but it feels loads better! I set it up with exactly the same keybinds I have on pc and it is really good. I can't change the mouse speed while in menus which is the only drawback but other than I'd totally be happy with it. F5 & F8 work exactly as expected!

Motion blur setting on xbox is bugged. It's stuck on low even despite changing and applying it, it will always default to low.

Also am I going mental but I'm moving forward on my Xbox controller and my character is moving slightly to the right at all times. Hmmm.

AHH so you have the random stick drift as well. I though it was my son's pad that was fucked. This is one of the reasons I tried the m+k

This is one of the reasons I tried the m+k Yeah, I thought I was imagining it but it's incredibly distracting. I don't think i can continue to play until that's patched plus settings not being saved either. I think it needs an onboarding for people completely new to this franchise. Stuff like the bleeding notification above your health that people wouldn't really know what it meant as their health gradually went down and the game only mentions health packs not about bandages and the icons are tiny and no mention of what they do such as tapping left on the dpad uses a health pack and holding it down uses a bandage. I'm all for rough edges here and there but I think a lot of casual people are going to give up from the off.

I tried it a bit earlier before going back to Death Stranding. I’m not sure it’s stick drift, it feels like there’s just no deadzone at all, so the slightest deviation from directly forward moves you sideways too. It’s very offputting.

Yeah, Reddit seems to have identified it as no deadzone which is baffling that it passed everyone's knowledge amongst other testing. It was not enjoyable.

Fucking hell, still in the tutorial part and got killed by something I didn’t even see. The music ramps up and by a boat and die. I’ve jammed myself into a corner and still can’t see what kills me. I’m only on the medium difficulty as well.

Some of that is old school stuff and its why they were such a vertical wall of struggle. There are some prompts that brief tell you stuff but they are small and don't stay on screen long.
I don't like how the quickbinds for you stuff can randomly switch to some alternate option. I was already used to bandages/bleeding items on Q tap and my actually meds on Q hold but they swapped positions when they'd ran out and I picked up new ones and it even fell back to a sausage for heal. Leave food+drink on E tap FFS.

Sneaky tip for would-be new stalkers to get some gear so long as you haven't completed the prologue yet. Just watched my son do it and asked him to try this. stick all your shit in the big safe before interacting with the last anomaly and getting the cutscene. It resets what's in your inventory but not the safe. Get all your shit back and in good condition to boot

Unsurprising given it’s UE5 engine but on Series S by all accounts it’s a bit of a wreck…

I was expecting full CyBethesdaPunk but, on the S, it’s actually very far from that. Played through the tutorial and a little after once you come to. Frame rate is ok, seems to be around 30 but feels solid (have VRR on fwiw) and it looks good. No bugs so far. Pleasantly surprised.

That’s good, I wasn’t going to bother. I’ve got an S or a PC with a 1080ti so it seemed like it wasn’t worth the bandwidth but if you can get a song out of the S, I might have a crack.

Yeah that's it, they pinned me inside the radioactive chopper with grenades while the dog ran around the back. Loving the addition of a certain instrument and the immersive animations for everything from eating sausage, the way you hold a detector and handgun to opening a can of meaty lumps and eating them off the end of a knife. Lots of little things, attention to detail. Just got a some nice little upgrades on the lost boys side mission and then the random bullshit generator pinned down behind a tiny little tree by some dudes about 250 yards away behind a car, I didn't have the range on them so I was doomed to die before some fat little monstrosity barrelled through them and saved the day. As a massive fan they've nailed it so far.

Unsurprising given it’s UE5 engine but on Series S by all accounts it’s a bit of a wreck… i genuinely would disagree base on what I've seen and played of the opening section. Its maybe a bit fuzzy with the motion blur but it holds up well (wierd stick drift/movement issue aside) and I would quite happily play it in this state.
I'll caveat that I haven't seen beyond where i'm up to on pc so don't know if the performance dips or if stupid bugs appear

This is so good so far. Unforgiving, just as it should be.
I managed to sneak in an hour before work this morning. Two things I noticed: a) some pretty glaring pop-in when I first started - a building and a blimp loaded in after a second or two. So I closed it and reloaded, and it's fine - I'm going to avoid using quick resume for the foreseeable future; b) my option choices were intact except for inverting the Y-axis, which I had to reset. Weird.

It seems quick resume adds a fair bit on wonk to this game (at the moment anyway). Resumed it on my son's series s this morning and it was like a rubber band was tied to your hips. If you tried to turn or walk anywhere it would streeeeetttch and then drag you back to the same point and even rotate your camera back to the same xyz coordinates. Quite and restarted the game and it's working again.

also had to throw all the medkits and ammo etc onto the floor as the safe does not work for them, tried the 2 guns I mentioned on the floor as well but they disappear. Still good to have most of your stuff

I remember there being some itemisation keybinds so maybe I'll investigate that later

I encountered a spider in my bathroom this morning and there was one in the bedroom yesterday.
I'm not going to reel them all off but that should be enough to get you started.

Consoles seem to exhibit stick drift/dead zone and will randomly just coast to the right. Observed on Series S and Jambo has seen it on X
Quick resume quirks, I've seen rubber banding but somebody else mentioned gun issues I think, it's a few posts earlier.
Derbs stated that the controller support is b0rked at the moment on pc if you're a pad player.
I've had nothing on pc so far that has jumped out at me shouting BUG! apart from some wet meat looking swampdog near a downed copter. There is a weird white sparkling thing going on but I'm not sure WTF that is or if it's cos I keep downing meds. If I had to say anything it would be that this game is heavy on both GPU and CPU and will flip-flop between both dependant on area density and NPC count local to you.

Maybe they actually fixed it with those 400GB of patches then... Or... once your save files become enormous, everything will go to shit then. That must be it.

The white sparkling stuff was mentioned in Shillup's review. (if we're talking about the same thing) Seems to be intentional and there's no way to turn the effect off. Looks ridiculously annoying!
I'm in the wait for a few patches camp at the moment. (well, a few more patches...)
