Limped my way to level 40 with an underpowered Ultron deck.
I’ll be honest, I don’t buy that this isn’t pay to win. At the end of the day if you don’t have decent cards - which are easiest to obtain by paying for more daily missions - you will just get owned by players with stronger decks. Either that or the matchmaking is just bullshit that keeps pairing me off with players way further down the collection line than me.

Yeah, I've been doing terribly this season. Probably not helped by only playing late in the evening and not really focussing on what I'm doing.

I make some hilarious errors, including playing Odin on to Carnage and on more than one occasion thinking I'm on turn 5 when I'm actually on turn 6.
I've not found collection progress too bad though, I've been playing since the official launch and I'm on collection level 1202 without spending any money. You do need a bit of luck with the caches, but the same is true if you're spending.

I just discovered that Arnim Zola doesn't just copy Dead Pool, but also returns him to your hand at twice power. Hard to take advantage of, but if you can get an early Zola or turn 7 it can be pretty funny. He re-triggers Jubilee too which worked wonders in a game last night. Played her on her own space, and she had brought in Dino, used Zola on turn 6 and she brought in a Hulk and Infinaut to win the other two spaces. Very risky strategy though, can go wrong very easily. I've been hovering around 40 recently, worked up to that pretty quickly after the season started but having difficulty climbing as fast now this time. 833 collector level but missing a lot of good pool 3 cards like Carnage, Sera, Mystique, Wong and Leader who always seem to be cards that come up in decks that beet me. |

Second Dinner has actually mapped out F2P progress making it possible to get a full collection completely F2P. You just need to be patient. It will take many, many months (around 7 I believe) to accomplish. They give you the tools to compete against full collections in the pool 1 and 2 cards in the meantime.
I, too, am having more difficulty progressing up the ladder this season. It's my opinion that this is due to the popularity of the game and being matched up more against real people than bots. But that's just my opinion and not really based on anything. BTW, having a fuller collection doesn't mean you get an easier ride up the ladder. I need 9 cards for a full pool 3 collection and have 2 pool 4 cards (albeit the shittiest ones) and I am struggling trying to break rank 40 (been see-sawing between 37 and 39 the past couple of days).

The nice thing about this game is I keep seeing particular card combos or card/location combos and going "huh, I could do that myself, that's a good idea". This morning it was someone playing Hulk Buster on Bar Sinister, giving them a 16 power card and 3 slots still available.
They then followed up with Jessica Jones and won that location - but lost the other two because I put Kazar on there. Reinforcing my view that the best use of Bar Sinister is always, always, to buff your other locations rather than winning that one.

Bar Sinister can be great for a move deck too, fill with Vision then move out, or Vulture and pull 3 with Cloak or Dr Strange, but the cards have to come in the right order. Agree though that unless you are already well ahead in at least one other location, trying to slap a big card there won't help.
Learning through defeat is great, I've taken a lot of screenshots to look back at as I have unlocked more cards.

For what it's worth, I'm collectors level 871 and the only money I spent was on the basic level of the last season pass.
As I'm more into collecting I feel no hesitation in making a deck of random cards I have to be upgraded and sticking with it until I've they're all upgraded.
I had an over confident destruction player snap as soon as they saw the first location was Klyntar. I snapped too as I had a good hand. He then started playing all the usual destroy cards there, like Bucky etc. I had a feeling that the location wouldn't trigger the destroy effects of the cards and unfortunately for him that proved true.

Yeah you have to trigger them yourself, which can be worth doing but it would subsequently put all that power into a card which is vulnerable to Killmonger or even Electra. If I have the cards I like to follow up the symbiosis with Venom for security.
I do wonder if anything happens with Dead Pool?

The trick is to make her discard herself, and then play her back with Hela or Ghost Rider. When she's in charge she is dumber than a pile of bricks though.

Just experienced Wong, Hazmat (-1 all cards), Luke Cage (your cards can’t have power reduced) and Odin. Giving all my cards -4. They also played Scorpion and Spider Woman. Vicious deck, didn’t stand a chance.

I did wonder if Mr Negative could be effective with a load of low power cards that have other strong benefits - Iron Heart, Dracula, Iron Man, Hobgoblin etc
Edit - from some very quick Googling research, you also need cards that let you play Mr Negative sooner (Psylocke, Jubilee) or extend the game (Magick) because the 4- cost makes him come too late to make a huge difference otherwise

Watched the Guardians Holiday Special last night, and as every character came on screen my head was going "if your opponent played a card here this turn +2 power", "remove the top card from your opponents deck". I think I have been playing too much Snap.

In my upgrade deck until I get sick of my move deck. What is the best use of it? Works well with Moon Girl, which synergises with Devil Dinosaur. I'm sure there are lots of options, but Collector, Sentinel, Cable, White Queen all fit. You could even Mystique to double the effect. |
