So uh is the game good now? I kind of remember it being not great... This was the one where you could build stuff and everything was boring, right?
Maybe better than 76 though?
Fallout 2 was the best. /Old

So uh is the game good now? Not really. It's a Bethesda game. It's better than bad.

Playing the vanilla game until F4SE is updated is going to be an odd experience for me. Even the character creation is going to feel oddly stymied and restrictive. I'm giving it a go to test the update, but I have a feeling I'll wait a while after today's initial look.
Went into Creation Club to see what had been done there, many of the mods had an update waiting, but wouldn't you know it, many of them throw up a "The operation could not be completed" message when I click the update button, but on the 5th or 6th go, they suddenly start doing their thing. Server woes, presumably.
EDIT:
Well, for fucks sake. The Modern Furniture mod in Creation Club cannot currently be updated, because clicking on it instantly crashes me out of the CC menu and back to the game main menu every time. Which also then froze and required a Ctrl-Alt-Del to get out of.

Crashing to desktop over and over. Not a great start to a replay. Vanilla GOTY with the official HD texture pack.
Not a good omen for me spending any time with it.

Didn't expect the PS5 version to give me a fresh trophy list to collect. So I guess I know what my next platinum is.

I did have 7 new quests pop when I launched the game. A couple are the new Creation Club content, maybe the rest are the DLC but I has that installed already and didn’t have those quests…

Unless I have to do a full restart, but you’d think they would make that obvious if it was required I don't know if there's a bug as the patch notes said ultra quality settings at 30fps for quality mode and 60fps for performance mode. I see no difference visuals wise between both modes.

If you have an RTX capable card, turn off weapon debris as that’s a known crashing bug that apparently still isn’t fixed in this update.

Audio is weird though - I guess lipsync was never great, but I'm hearing characters dialog crashing over each other - even the same character is saying two lines at once on occasion. Almost like the modern clock speeds are screwing the engine up. Movement also feels faster than I remember - both walking/running and enemy movement.... even lock picking.

Sounds like it's about as smooth a launch as we could've expected from Bethesda.

Looks decent though, and definitely an upgrade over what I was playing earlier in the week. However, I did have a dashboard crash after about 15 mins play, so that's not ideal.

If you are starting new and like the settlement stuff I saw a great tip just now.
Start collecting mining hats.
You eventually get to a point where you are creating supply lines with settlers. You equip all these guys with mining hats and lasers and at night the wasteland becomes hilarious as they light it up while getting into firefights

I'd heard about giving hats to settlers so you know who you've assigned a duty to, but the lasers are a good shout

I thought I was going mental that I couldn't see a difference on my Xbox. PS5 is fine Xbox isn't. Great testing there Bethesda.

I bet there are still comparison videos out there with people pointing out the differences in image quality between the modes.

My supply lines are usually Assaultron upper bodies with the sassy female voice, the Mr Handy thruster bottom (I've had robots get stuck on scenery way too many times when they had legs), backpack armour and lasers on both hands.
All settlers usually get institute lasers as the blue beam stands out more as it's only the institute that uses them. It's actually only for the night time battles too as it's easier to spot if your close by.

Really annoyed I missed this when cheap now. Does the GOTY version exist on either ps5 or Xbox games passes? I have both, but don’t any to start a version and have to change later on to get DLC when it’s on offer.

I've no real use for the robot stuff beyond the quest so it's just a way to make it worth while. I like it feeling uniform like an actual caravan group, "Assaultron Express, Bringing you your goods, No matter how bad it is", gotta have a bit of Three Dog in my Fallout.
I do the same with the minute men too, all combat armour and institute rifles and pistols, both with the army paint from the creation club. Make them look like an actual military.

I'm not really interested in building anything.. I just wanted to kill as many people as possible, and loot their shit.

I weirdly had to start downloading the PS4 version to then get the option to download the PS5 version instead (on the game page itself) but other than that I've had a very painless experience.
Started the game and got out of the vault and to Sanctuary. Downloaded and installed all the DLC so the quests have all popped up in my Pip-Boy and the game looks better than I remember. I can see this being my new time sink for sure, I never finished the game at launch and didn't touch any of the DLC, so I have a lot to do. Good times.
