Don't worry. Once some others on here play it my overwhelming positivity will be diluted. I don't expect everyone to love it as much as I do.

My goal in life is to find someone who looks at me the way Wunty looks at the Silent Hill 2 remake.

Remakes won’t please everyone. I can imagine a lot of fans of the original will hate the changes made in this remake. I’d feel the same way about my favourite games being remade, too. But for me, this remake seems to have attempted to improve the things about the game I hated.
I know I remarked about the lack of gameplay in the original, buts that’s how it felt to me. I remember so little about the game outside of the cutscenes because I never got stuck. I never got challenged, beyond a couple of tight corridors and maybe some back and forth puzzling in the last(?) area. I know that’s kind of the point of the game, but it meant my mind wondered as I played and thus the impact of the narrative fell flat on me as my enthusiasm for engaging with the game waned.
It’s very almost a walking simulator with highly inconsistent levels of stimulation and engagement. This remake seems to address that, whether that is a problem for players or not.

Is it still the same save system with the red square?
Seeing that red piece of paper was such a relief - usually curtailed my play every time I saw one of those.

I mentioned it earlier if the original still exists for purchase how does it directly affect someone's love of the original game if a remake exists?

I mentioned it earlier if the original still exists for purchase how does it directly affect someone's love of the original game if a remake exists? Can only speak from my own experience but it's not that it affects my love for the original game, more that the remake doesn't cater to my own exact (selfish) needs and I'm left a bit disappointed and wondering what could have been. For example - all I wanted from the FF7 remake was a gorgeous looking version of the original with the exact same systems and mechanics but they changed far too much. Or something like Warcraft 3 Reforged where they went too far the other way and changed fuck all.

Interesting. I'm more thinking of those who think a remake shouldn't even be considered.

There is auto-saving at certain transition points in the PC version, at least. Can see the wee dot on the screen when it occurs. No idea how frequent it is, but guess it may be similar to RE8 in that regard? Manual typewriters/red square, and then some selective autosaving?

rhaegyr I still want that kind of FF7 remake! 1 game (not 3) that just updates the visuals and polished up any quality of life issues, tweaks a couple of basic mechanics, but leaves the original experience intact. I get that is the disappointment of this Silent Hill remake for some.

I think there is an element that they are also catering to a new audience, that never experienced Silent Hill, or FF7. Unfortunately in this instance you have to blame JuniorFE.

Loving this at the moment. I've not played the original for decades so can't remember much. Definitely scratching the survival horror itch.

I think he has played FF7 in some form or another but he hasn't touched the Remake (which I foolishly purchased, both instalments so far, thinking that I would play it as if I'd get the luxury of that much gaming time) citing his pile of shame and the changes in the story. As for Silent Hill, not his kind of game...

Don't blame me for the DMCfication of FF when my problems with the recent installments (perhaps with 15 excluded) stem exactly from that, thanks
