The butcher character is still in it isn't it? So they just decided not to link him to Pyramid Head
I've always found it ballsy that when being given the opportunity to create a new entry in the series, they went straight for an origin story Yep that's right. I guess it's easier to write an origin story about something that already exists, than to write something new and engaging. What did James do prior to Silent Hill? He had VISIONS OF FOG, AND NURSES.. SEXY NURSES. |

I doubt it. It's the crux of the game. It's unavoidable. If they were worried about that, why pick that game to remake in the first place? Konami don't care either way, they crap out poor ports of games (360 collection of SH2 and sh3 was so broken)
Silent hill 2 remake will sell regardless, I don't think bloober will change anything but saying there is possibility. Also some game studios like to put their own take on the game as they think they can do better

And also, dfunked, I recommend playing the original Silent Hill 2 instead of waiting for the remake. A Blooper Team remake is no way to experience it for the first time and it still looks good and plays fine today. The SH Collection version is bobbins but I think you play on PC sometimes, so if the original is available on Steam, get that. If not, just download a hooky version I don't know what was spoiled for you but there's so much going on in it that it's still worth playing |

Do we know for definite that he doesn't have a willy? Maybe the story of how he came to lose his willy is the one that needs to be told. He had an unfortunate accident with his big chopper and a rat ran off with it. He spends the rest of the game trying to find it, not following James at all, it's all a huge misunderstanding. |

You've got to have noticed that we have far more restrictions on what we can say and do now as opposed to the comparative internet Wild West of the early 2000s when Silent Hill 2 originally came out. This extends throughout the media, we live in an age where stuff that was previously thought okay is getting taken out of games and films.
Anything that even suggested genitalia would never have got a release on the PS2. Let's make a little bet. I bet the remake tones things down, either by shifting angles and lighting on scenes to make things more ambiguous or removing content outright. Maria exists to be punished in front of James, this is not side content or stuff that can be removed without taking something away from the story.
Games have got way more violent and graphic. Hot Coffee was a huge controversy, now it's a feature of games that you can shag everyone. Blashpemous is all about people being abused and punished. Cyberpunk 2077 has a fair bit on the subject of the sex industry and abuse as well. I'm sure there are other examples
I don't remember ever seeing Maria being shown to be physically abused in Silent Hill 2 anyway. Not sure what you're referring to
It's the context of the violence and who it's being perpetrated against and who the perpetrator is that counts. I've been spending a lot time lately playing games from the PS2 and PS3 generations and it's mind blowing to see some of the stuff that was in even first party Sony releases that wouldn't fly today. Silent Hill 2 is at risk of getting undue attention because some of the violence has sexual overtones. Sure, you could make a game about doing the most unspeakable things to cops for instance, you wouldn't hear a peep about it.
Silent Hill 2 generally puts stuff in the way like lift doors when Pyramid Head catches Maria but don't forget her final death where she is suspended upside down and impaled. To be fair, the one that most disturbed me is where you don't see or have any idea what happened, reaching the prison cell to find her dead with signs of injury. |

Think it was on PS2 as well. I vaguely remember trying to play it on my dodgy softmodded Wii and it not working for whatever reason.

Shattered Memories was excellent - it's the best SH outside of the Team Silent games for sure.
It's probably better than SH4 but that was a game of real peaks and valleys.
