real last day of term at a school lined up for demolition over the summer holidays feel at rps
Quoting so no one on the new pages misses these. Also, I think I’d genuinely be into a site providing this kind of content

I love the snarky irreverence of it all! Fine work to those responsible.

I like the attitude, though I hope they aren't screwing themselves over. It doesn't bode well that all the redundancies were at places other than EG. Makes it sound like they mainly wanted the EG brand. PS/ Since simple didn't care enough to quote this one from the last page: www.rockpapershotgun.com/the-best-alices-in-pc-games

Ha I really like the not give a fuck attitude of those, the Alice was pretty exceptional too. It does come across as really weird to cut properly experienced people but I guess that's the point, those with experience have more red lines they won't cross and will be less likely to be taken advantage of willingly.

Reading between the lines - perhaps incorrectly - it seems as though the RPS writers don't hold out much hope of remaining employed, so they're having some fun while they can.
Meanwhile, Tom Phillips' article was so sanitised and bloodless, I can only assume that EG expects to keep going and daren't rock the boat in the meantime.

Well him using "hope" implied he doesn't know what the fuck is going on, it's still business as usual until the Eye of Sauron descends over them.

It feels like RPS has been struggling for a while. I've been reading it for 10+ years but something's seemed a little 'off' for the last year or so now.
Can't quite put my finger on it.

That Alice article is another work of art.
RPS in general doesn’t feel like it’d fit the IGN brand so they must have felt like the writing was on the wall even before Alice was pushed out.

A fair point - I can't fault the guy for playing it safe until he knows what's what, as much as I'd love to see some RPS-style "school's out!" shenanigans from the folks at EG.

Paywall. *Edit: Registration required - then they nag you after 8 days to pay. **Edit: Oooh...maybe EG/RPS will go the FT route? Strangely I can access without any of that.

Is/was Oxbox part of Gamer Network? I was halfway through typing that EG/RPS might not be able to do a Second Wind as they don’t have a view driver like Zero Punctuation to help support less profitable parts of the product but OX gets decent views. Certainly compared to what the EG channel used to get. They are part of the network yes. But yeah I think the EG channel barely makes 10k views. How many views does MrTomFTW get?

All this also may explain the recent sudden departure of Aoife Wilson as head of EG's video team to Larian Entertainment and Luke Westaway from Outside Xtra. Both probably decided the acquisition was a good excuse to make a career change.

RPS have always been the plucky underdog mavericks (even though it was set up by 4 of the best regarded games journalists in he UK). It's good to see that spirit is still alive and kicking.

As long as no one gets rid of Rob from Playstation Access. There's something very soothing about his voice. "Hello you've just caught me masturbating over the new Playstation 5 version of Metal Gear Solid 3".

I doubt privvy to the IGN news, but might've just thought it was time with the original ReedPop sale news. Who knows.

I think there’s just been a general bleed of talent over the last few years as Reedpop have wrecked things. I’m surprised some of the really old timers like Bertie are still there.
Hope Craigy’s gonna be ok

There have been times over the last couple of years where I genuinely thought the EG youtube channel had stopped producing content. It had fallen a long way off as they failed to replace anyone who left.

IGN staff awfully quiet in regards to layoffs all of a sudden. I do did dread sing this topic bumped. Giantbomb seems to have settled itself again and is on a good run. Love Blight Club.

Well, I mean I get it. Perhaps privately stuff is being said I don't think you'd want to risk pissing off your employer in a vest public way. I guess RPS staff can probably see the way the wind is blowing and think fuck it let them have both barrels.

Just looked.
8 of the last 15 videos are about VR.

I guess he tries his best. It's probably hard when I doubt most people who visit the site now are not into that kind of thing. I feel like EG skews older in its demographic and the kids just aren't interested in what they have to offer.

Yeah, I like Ian. He's clearly a nice, enthusiastic chap. But sometimes I click on a video and think an intervention might need to be made...
