My theory based on absolutely nothing is that Jeff G. made a management decision that was disadvantageous for everybody else but him, seeing how he has a family to take care of now. Sure I read Vinny said he was told in a meeting that he would never get any sort of promotion which was good enough for him to say bye. |

I remember a bombcast where they joked they’d start calling him chief. Maybe Vinny wanted to be Editor-in-Chief of Giantbomb East? |

I just heard about Matt Rorie leaving - really does feel like it's coming apart at the seams. Hope Jan, Jeff G and Jeff B land on their feet if it does go under.
(I'm sure they'll be fine, especially the Jeffs, they probably have a lot of other stuff they could switch to)
Edit- shame for Dan though, now that he's back at GB after his failed foray into wrestling. But again, I imagine he'd switch to his own thing, or throw everything into Fire Escape Cast maybe

Dan's been doing a lot of streaming by himself anyways.
Both Jeff's have other jobs as well a GB so I think Jan would be the only one at risk unless he just got moved to Gamespot if they ever closed GB.
Suppose it depends on which brand they feel gives the most value.
GB need to freshen things up. I'm not a fan of them but 10 things you should know about/ best endings type videos bring so many cheap clicks and attention to the channel.
OutsideXbox gets more views on 1 video than GB does all year.

It's a shame. It must be disheartening to find the viewership drop off, compiled with the parent company announcing sudden layoffs etc. For me it's a lack of free time in general as other responsibilites have taken it up, I can't listen to the Bombcast and Nextlander and Waypoint and Jeff's own thing for 10 hrs every week. I imagine it's the same with the audience that started from the early days and they don't really do a lot to gain attention from others. They don't really write reviews, covid fucked them over for a while with no activities done in the same space which is where some of their funniest stuff happens and they have other things in ther lives and made them have to split apart and move, whether it's a new job or for other reasons. Im glad it's still around, but it's not been the same for a while now. Cutting Jeff out was absolutely killer for me.

Jeff wanted out anyways and had done for about a year. And oddly enough looking back occasionally at covid time vids you can see how checked out he was and at times how much he hated having to let others talk.
I find myself skipping all of Jeff's stuff now.
Covid definitely did a number on sites like this and I don't think any will really recover.
Also can't justify our even afford to pay towards all these patreons.
But yeah if they want to continue GB they need to mix up what content they put out going forward even if it means reviews and so on.

I would probably listen to Jeff more if his podcasts weren't three hours long and full of invective that is challenging for me to navigate while my 4 year old is within ear-sight.

Yeah 90 minutes would be fine especially as he doesn't really keep up with most current releases.
Also don't care to listen to him ranking energy drinks for 20+ minutes.

Word on the street is that he just liked the arrangement. It was a job with a steady paycheck and they took care of all the admin shit you have to do if youre a one man band which freed up a lot of time for side projects and just living a normal life. Same reason most of us work for someone else rather than running our own business, I suppose. |

Very much so which was fine but it was the more OTT stuff whenever something would screw Jeff over. Same time the ending to that with Brad screwing Dan to give Drew the win was made better by the live crowd.(and Dan sulking) |

I assume the site will be dead in no time now. they were building up other content (like Cold Take, Design Delve and Adventure is Nigh) but all that has moved with Yahtzee and Nick to Second Wind anyways. Second Wind are hoping they'll be mostly Patreon supported so views matter less (and they can keep doing what they want rather than so metric focused). Anyway |
