Can only remember Solid being negative about it but he's negative about everything.
Loved it though, even the length and LotR extra endings.

Some people really didn't like the length and others didn't like the change of direction. Won't go into spoilers as I'm sure some will be playing it after watching the series.
It was forum.

TLOU2 was very good as well. Not the revelation of the first, but certainly a polished experience that I really enjoyed. The Naughty Dog gameplay formula isn't as fresh any more but it was all very competent third person fun nonetheless.
I thought the narrative in the second one was as good as the first and extremely brave for a computer game.
I suggest we avoid discussion of the plot of both games here but they are pretty much two of the most memorable stories in videogames full stop.

The gameplay was shitloads better in the second game.

TLoU2 had more options in how you deal with things, the more open nature of a lot of the world was great and it was clearly a game that had a whole bunch of years to evolve. It's a better game by a long way and that's saying something considering how great the original is.
edit: and I still can't believe just how good the physics were at times, who knew opening a sodding gate could be so much fun?

The combat in 2 was so tense, had some really cool moments taking down squads of people.

Loved that first episode. My only qualm really was that a few of the supporting cast were weak actors - thinking the Fedra guy and Marlene's irate henchwoman. Otherwise, lovely opening. The bloomed corpse embossed into the wall was quite the sight.

Fwiw, TLoU2 was absolutely top tier. Just remember Solid banging on incessantly about how he didn't like it but still played through all 40 hours of it or whatever.

Maybe I'll wait a few more seasons before diving in then, in hopes it finally reaches PS9.

I would say I liked the 2nd game more than the first too. The first is probably a little more perfect in what it is doing storywise, but the second aims a little higher.
My only real complaint is it was a little too long, but can't say I was ever bored with it.

I preferred the story and relative brevity of the first one but, obviously, everything else about the second one is technically better. The game itself plays far better and the story is told in a more interesting way but it did start to grate on me pretty badly by the half way point.

I should give the second game another go. I didn't like it anywhere near as much as the first. Though I think I was burnt out from playing the first game 3 times and then doing the same kinda shit over again in the second game. I loved the first for the story and the characters in what was a new setting/world. The second didn't really do that for me. Maybe go back to it after the show finishes S1.
I listened to the podcast for the show and it was pretty good. Thought Neil and Craig sounded so alike though and loads of times couldn't tell which one was talking!

Loved that never played the games so was a treat. same here, really good episode and I'm onboard. TLoU was never a game that appealed to me since I skipped the PS3 with Xbox. Finally got a PS4 so I have had chance to get a remaster/remake but still never got the urge. I hope this pc port turns out ok cos I'm fully hard for playing it now. I have a vague idea of how the story beats go but none of the finer details so I'm looking forward to the rest of the show and it'll be interesting to see how the game compares when I finally play it

I've not played any of the games, there always seems to be something else higher up the pile, despite the obvious acclaim.
I generally don't have time for massive games these days. Me and mrsgamingdave do enjoy a solid story driven adventure - currently playing through GOW together - but I always struggle to avoid the temptation of a side quest and so often they take too long. I have a copy of remastered (came with my PS4 and not played), and tempted to try and play through it now, but we are also itching to watch the show.
If 2 is a better game, then maybe the best route is to watch the show, get GOW finished, and then try out 2. But would I be doing myself a disservice skipping the first?

I've reinstalled 2, 60fps patch and all.

This is impossible to answer without knowing how well the show builds the characters, relationship and events from the game, but I would play Part 1 before Part 2. As the title implies, it's very much a continuation of the story rather than a sequel. No matter how good the show is, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson will forever be Joel and Ellie for me, and going from show to game would lose something.

If 2 is a better game, then maybe the best route is to watch the show, get GOW finished, and then try out 2. But would I be doing myself a disservice skipping the first? Hard to answer until we've seen the full series as it depends on how much they deviate from the game. If they deviate a lot, it could still be worth playing. As I said earlier, TLOU can't possibility have the same overall impact 10 years on, even with graphical updates, as it raised the bar in a lot of areas at the time, but now those systems and production values will be nothing you haven't seen many times over. If you haven't the patience for stealth, scavenging/crafting and a finite resource management (which really helps the survival aesthetic), I wouldn't bother, if you do, I would as that's very much how it's designed to be played. It isn't that long a game and you could stick it on easy if you are tempted and just blast through it. However easy mode adds a lot more ammo so you don't need to plan your approach around what you have in your inventory which is part of the fun. Either way don't start TLOU2 without knowing the events of TLOU1 in detail. Just whilst I think of it, another thing people forget that TLOU was the first to do (or at least do well) were natural transitions from stealth to blown cover and back to stealth again. Stealth game convention for decades was that if your cover gets blown, you get mobbed and die in seconds, so the trained behaviour was to pause and just immediately reload back to the last checkpoint. In TLOU it was often possible to live with a mistake, run away and regroup.

Both Hitman and Deus Ex (amongst others) did that before TLOU and did it fairly well.
