I thought it'd be interesting to see people's platform choices through the ages. Mine are...
Spectrum ZX Mega Drive / Gameboy PC N64 Dreamcast PS2 / GBA / PC (again) X360 PS4 Switch / Series X

Mine are probably quite different to most here, as I was mostly PC systems until I started full time employment and had my own money. I now have too many platforms.
C64 (family system that I don't remember at all and was probably too young to actually use myself) Master System Game Gear Amiga 500 (can't recall if it was the plus or not) PC (various systems and still my main gaming system) Wii U Playstation 4 Switch Playstation 5 Steam Deck (just this weekend)

It's not really a linear line, especially towards the end, but it's like this:
C64 Amiga 600 Game Gear SNES PC Dreamcast Gamecube Gameboy Advance Then that was it for about 10 years until my brother bought me an Xbox 360, which sort of (massively) rekindled my love of gaming and I then bought: PS4 PS Vita PS5 However whilst I owned the 360, PS4 and PS5 I have also bought up: OG Xbox Xbox One X PS2 PS3 SNES Mini C64 Mini Amiga Mini Retroid Pocket 2+

Gameboy SNES PC PS1 GC, soon followed by PS2, PSP and Xbox From that point on it was pretty much own every current system because I actually had disposable income to throw at them (but of course less time to play them). 3DS is probably the only one from the big three that I haven't owned in the past 20 years.

Atari 2600jr. Master System. Mega Drive (with the Master System converter thing, which selling the MS covered from what I remember). SNES. PS1. N64. PS2. PS3. PS4. PS5.
I also had Gameboy, Gameboy Color, DS, PSP, 3DS but I can't remember the order so they slot in between the rest at various points.
Also I'm not actually a PS fanboy, just one console a gen was enough and you had BC for a bit then ended up tied into them due to purchase history etc.

Ah yeah, shit, I forgot all the mini's, but had the originals, so, yeah I included them as technically it's a new "console" even though it's just an emulation of what I already had!

Not going to list every console I've ever had cos it's basically all of them and not at all in chronological order, but my 'main' gaming platform over time is approximately:
Mega Drive PlayStation PC Dreamcast PS2 Xbox DS PSP Xbox 360 Vita PS4 PS5/XSX (use them pretty much equally)

Yeah, fair do's - they're physical things aren't they. I only had the snes mini though. I suppose I could include the raspberry PI as it has Retropie on it, but probably not.

Spectrum ZX PC PS2 Gameboy Advance PC PSP Nintendo Wii Xbox 360 PS3 PC Nintendo Switch PC
I've felt distinctly underwhelmed by every Nintendo console I've bought. I can't really say why either - it's like they seem great at first and then it's just, they end up gathering dust in a drawer. Then a year or two later I feel like "I wish I hadn't bought this."

ZX Spectrum+ C64 Atari ST Amiga 600 Amiga 1200 (AGA chipset, bro) Playstation PSX PS One Dreamcast Playstation 2 (DS Lite, PSP, PS Vita, 3DS - not at the same time, but occasionally)
After PS2, it's been only the PC and I don't think I will EVER buy another "big" console.

mrharvestI'm the other way round with Nintendo, but only on the Snes, Wii, Gamecube and Switch. The Wii U I was hoping to click more with. Still got it, but it's not wired up. Still use the wii though - I'm playing both house of the dead: overkill on it at the moment, along with the gamecube disk of Eternal Darkness on it too. In fact, that's my heaviest used console at the minute! It'll change though and I'll cycle round on something else for a while. I quite like revisiting stuff I have and haven't used for a while. Each to their own though innit.

Me too. I keep thinking of other ones now, like the 3DS and handheld stuff, but I can't be arsed updating it. Definitely a lot over the years though. It's weird, in my head I thought it was just, "Speccy, c64, snes, amiga, pc and then new consoles" but there's fucking loads!

I only had Wii U and Switch and I thought both were excellent. Something about Nintendo games just works so well, even if they have their own weird way of doing things that is often inferior to others (multiplayer, in particular).
The problem with he Wii U now is that pretty much every game has been moved over to Switch. There isn't really any reason to boot it up nowadays. I'm also not sure whether it will have much value on the second hand market for quite some time, as anyone wanting to play Wii U games should just get a Switch and play the improved versions there. It might at some point get some nostalgia factor, but for the moment it doesn't seem worth using and isn't worth selling.

Great thread, darkling! Spectrum ZX Game Boy Mega Drive [enormous gap] PS4 PS5 I didn't really get into gaming, in terms of it being a bona fide hobby, until 2015.

All the good ones. Except I've only ever owned one (one!) Nintendo console (the original DS).

Actually I'm yet to jump on board this current gen but it's only a matter of time (and money).
