We appear to be sniffing around Cameron Carter-Vicars from Spurs for a potential loan. Late, late, late. No idea if it will happen … any thoughts on him? There were high hopes for him a few years back I think. Been on a few loans but never really progressed to the first team. Could be a decent signing for you.

I keep typing stuff that ends up feeling like a dig at the SPL, so I’ll just say I suspect CCV will do quite well and leave it there

Saul is a hell of a last minute signing. I can't see past Chelsea this season.

Yeah it’s all Chelsea.
I think Liverpool have fucked up personally. Real danger of stagnation in that side. They covered a very poor season by their standards last year by scraping the top four but haven’t addressed it at all. With United and Chelsea in the ascendency I can see them struggling. It was also at about this point that Klopp folded in on himself at Dortmund.
Think Leicester’s business has been a little strange as well. Not sure.

Liverpool are the outsiders of the four title contenders for me. I know they had injuries last season but with all the momentum of the previous two seasons gone and no real moves to improve the squad I can’t see them picking it up when Chelsea and United have improved their squads so much and City are still City.

Wasn't Liverpool's reason for doing crap last season that they had injuries to key players? They'll be "like new signings"

They’ll also lose Mane and Salah for the ACN in Jan/Feb.

Do Chelsea need another midfielder? Oh we desperately need back-up for Kante, Kovacic and Jorginho, woe is us.

I know he was a free but Rondon joining Rafa (again) is a bit of a surprise.

What happened with James Rodriguez? At the start of last season the press we're jizzing themselves that Everton had a true world class player.
Now?

And its not like they had a chump manager who can’t handle big egos either

But my hope was that, despite not making any inroads into the Spurs first team and being farmed out on loan a number of times, he might still be a very decent addition for us, as we badly need some strength and depth at the back. Fingers crossed, then.

We’ve cut £39.5m/year off our wage bill this summer.

Our first team isn't really any stronger but we've replaced aging players with younger ones and it feels like there is a proper strategy building for the next few years. The squad feels quite well balanced at the moment.
Paratici looking a good appointment so far.

Newcastle fans are insufferable enough ordinarily but now that Bruce has added a player we already had on loan and a fictional character to the doom-mongers are really out in force. Its enough to put a lad off following his team so closely.

We spent the window trying to offload him and his wages for FFP reasons. Now it'll be interesting to see what Benitez does with him and if he fits in with the system.

Defensive solidity and Townsend pumping crosses at Rondon all afternoon?

Probably. Something very non-James, that's for sure.

James is an old school luxury number 10 that team pressing is phasing out the game.
Like Ozil.

Has he ever really been a top top player for the position anyway?
Always got the impression Madrid signed him because of that goal in the World Cup and his handsome face but he was slightly out of his depth in that squad. And at Bayern too, although their dominance of the league disguised it a bit.

Benitez happened. He was never gonna be a James fan, unless he could suddenly completely change his attitude, in which case he would probably still be at a big club.

I can think of somewhere in North London that would be perfect for him

The squad feels quite well balanced at the moment. Paratici looking a good appointment so far. That's basically what we've done. Had we a) got rid of Kolasinac and b) brought in another CM as well as Lokonka, I would have been more than happy. As it is, I think it's a 7/10 overall, downsides being those not moved on

What happened to Chelsea's German striker: is he taking the Giroud role?

Mendy refused bail. They must really have something on him considering how poor the prosecution rate for crimes like those is

Squad needed a refresh and like Kal said, some big wages are gone now
