33 mins into the pre season tour and Hojlund and Yoro already injured. Good stuff.

Preseason and all, but Chelsea are carrying on where they left off with some pretty awful performances so far.

Seems we're on the verge of striking a deal for Mikel Merino.

What a mad movie concept, let alone the casting.

Seems we're on the verge of striking a deal for Mikel Merino. I'd say I'm 'whelmed' by that one If he's taking Elneny or Sambi's squad role he's a definite upgrade. If he's our only CM addition this summer then I'm a bit concerned.

Merino is a huge upgrade on our backup options, think it would be very smart. Ruiz would be absolutely incredible.

Merino sounds very sensible. Agree we need one more though, esp if we can move Partey on (not looking likely mind)

Have we tried offering Partey to Marseille?

Have we tried offering Partey to Marseille? Do it the right way, send to Getafe first.

I’m not saying Merino was bad for us but we moved him on pretty sharpish after triggering a buyout clause in his initial loan deal.
But then, Joselu once almost hit the corner flag with a shot from 20 yards out at St James Park and he seems to have landed on his feet.

Decent episode of Football Weekly today. Kieran Maguire diving into the impact of all the PSR tricks, and a delightfully eloquent rant about Asian bookmakers by Phillipe.

I see Man City have sold some bloke who never played for them for a cheeky £25m, and Chelsea have casually spent another £20m on a keeper.

At the same time they're selling Ismailla Sarr for about only £12m to Palace, seems a great deal for the latter.

Well looks like some of our fanbase is having a meltdown because we lost to Liverpool.

People having meltdowns all over the place on ours. Save it until the transfer window closes and the season gets started.
Getting angry about a game where 22 people played in a meaningless training exercise is just ridiculous.

Was it a challenge that did it? I don't think so. It was the shitty hard pitch. We need to be signing De ligt then...so he too can break in 5 mins.

Might even work out better for Yoro in the long run if the expectation that Ten Hag was looking to start him match one was accurate.
An 18 year old centre back being thrust into the back line as the latest fan hope for 'sorting' the defence would've been seriously difficult. Quite hard to protect him from the hype and expectation that creates. At least now he'll have 3 months more knowledge of the team and the league and focus will drift away from him a bit. Feels like a better position for a youngster to be succeed from.
Seems like there are a lot of parrallels to Saliba who joined us at 18 with a similar price tag and profile, and with the fans similarly desperate for a rebuild and signs of progress. He just wasn't ready and had 3 years on loan to get to the level of maturity required.
Not that what Arsenal did was by any means perfect (the six months wasted as an unregistered player in 2020 still seem ridiculous) but he got the space to learn and develop. In terms of first team appearances it seems like Yoro is a season ahead of Saliba at same age but still, he's 18.
