As already said, this is a piece of history, but the people taking photos and videoing a fuernal need to have a look at themselves. Hardly going to be for self reflection, it's purely to post on social media to say "I was there" grim.

Well it's being televised to the nation on multiple channels...
Taking a selfie or a video seems acceptable given the spectacle and pomp.

It feels a bit disrespectful for everyone holding their phones up filming the procession. Besides which, at a glance it kind of looks a bit nazi-ish... This behaviour drivers me mad. Not only are people blocking other people's view en masse with their phones, but they're not taking in the moment they came for because they're viewing it on a screen. It makes no sense, especially at a televised or recorded event.

If you're going to march uniformed soldiers, horses and a brass band while firing cannons its hardly a sombre, private affair.
It's a literal parade. Of course people will take photos.

There's not exactly a lot else to do when you're in a crowd and can't move away from it.

The people I'm most disappointed in are those who've waited for hours only to film on their phone in portrait mode.

Same at gigs etc. Who actually watches those videos afterwards?

Pretty much every muppet I've seen interviewed at either the lying in state or today has said something like "I'm here so I can tell my grandkids "I was there" in the future", I think that says it all.

Isn't that just about the meat and veg of it though? It's not like any of the peons were personal friends. I do like how everyone is clapping and cheering as she's being trundled about though. I'm not sure an air of celebration is the way to do it.

I can confirm Brave Sir Cubby's statement regarding the current unavailability of dairy goods - judging by my visit to the supermarket yesterday afternoon, most people are planning to send the Queen on her merry way with full-on afternoon teas. No bacon, either! Basically our sainsbury's is fucking useless.

Is it weird that the most affecting programme or bit of coverage I’ve seen related to the Queen’s death has been the reaction of the older cast members of Googlebox?
Like all my friends are snarky Gen Xers and Millenials and the BBC rolling coverage has swung between sterile formality and mass hysteria but seeing someone in their 60s or 70s who grew up in a generation where deference was more common breaking down did get me a little. Weirdly it humanised the whole thing more than the coverage of the Queen’s actual family in a way.
