I just googled it, it's 24 hours lying in state and 9 days of mourning. So yeah. It last happened 70 years ago. I wonder if we've always been so determined to rigidly stick to tradition like this, or if it's a more modern concep This is 100% a modern concept

Let's just give them this one, they're never going to get this ever again. Ever? Charles is in his mid 70’s, that’s less than the term of my mortgage 😁

I read a sentence this morning which made me curl my toes - from the FT of all places:
Horp.

Traditionally, it was a lot more like Game of Thrones, out with the old, in with the new, with a lot of vying for power and upheaval to get there. Previous monarchs were often still warm when they were laid to rest.
Still, it was a bit up and down for the last 2 Charles, and if it's anything like Star Trek movies, that does not bode well..
This might spell the start of moving over to a Republic, we've already been going that way for the past 70 years, but perhaps with a little less execution.

"This proclaimation is to show that the monarchy does carry on and business continues as normal"
Just not the rest of the country.

Interesting to see Brown having a good chinwag with Johnson. And now Major -possibly even more surprising. Cameron and May looked like they didn't want to be near him.

Fuck me, this virtue signalling is getting out of control. The man probably doesn't even say this about his own family.

Public holiday confirmed on the day of the funeral. Don't know what day it is still but yeah. I'd say it's advisory but I can only imagine schools, companies etc will take it. Will look pretty bad if you dont.

I'd prefer it wasn't as making it official means nursery and school will be closed and the nanny won't be around.
Unofficial day and I could have just slinked off and watched the funeral.
But hey.

DfT confirmed it's the 19th yesterday, with the London/Windsor no-fly zone arrangements

So why is the cricket still going ahead but not the football? Saw on twitter the concern is the fans are more likely to chant something disrespectful at football.

Seeing it reported that a fear of fan dissent during tributes at football games might have been a consideration.
I’m surprisingly, irrationally angry about it. Has proper fucked me off lol

I mean, people boo the taking of the knee against the concept of racism and authorities didn't care about that.
Boo some rich old woman who nobody met, though, can't have that.

It’s just an utter shambles, really. If they have to pull next week’s card as well, going to be an absolute mess trying to reschedule all the fixtures.
Apparently Rangers are trying to convince both UEFA and Napoli to reverse their home/away CL fixtures for midweek to avoid the game going ahead in Glasgow on Tuesday. It’s legitimately embarrassing stuff. Country is a basket case.

Im surprised Kay Burley hasn’t reused this tweet. I’m sure it would go down better the second time around.

Getting right on my nerves this idea that we're not allowed to have any kind of fun for the next two weeks. Football being cancelled has pissed me right off, so we've decided to go to a small beer/music festival tonight. Of course in the event Facebook page, some twunt is complaining that it won't 'set the right tone' if people are drinking and dancing the whole night so wants to make sure they'll be 'a reference to what we're going through as a nation.' So now they'll be a minutes silence before each band comes on...

It's a good thing football fans aren't the sort of people that would make a point of chanting the most disrespectful stuff they could thing of when the matches are allowed to go ahead.
