Anyone else given this a whirl? It's brilliant (as you may have noticed from the Eurogamer 'essential' award)
It's quite difficult when it gets going, but the more you play the better you get, and the more you can focus on the score and executing tricks rather than just minute-to-minute survival. The soundtrack is also superb. It's half Olli Olli and half The Club on roller-skates.

Definitely picking that up at some point.
Soundtrack sounds a bit Carpenter Brut-esque in the vid

There is a trial of it if you have the new ps plus, the controls didn't click with me but everyone else seems to love it.

Yeah the controls are a little bit wonky to begin with at least- putting the trick inputs and movement on the same stick is a bit annoying. On the Steam deck is that you can trick inputs quite nicely to the buttons on the back, although that does mean even more buttons to remember.

What or who is this "Eurogamer" you speak of? One of those sites that looks at Twitter to base articles around and then paywalls them

That looks like an amazing combination of all the things I like.
Hyperblade (1996) + Sable Graphics + THPS + Rollerball + John Carpenter soundtracks?!

Is it by the team that did Sable? Because yeah, I liked the Moebius-styled art but didn't find the actual game very good.

I posted about this in the recently played thread, glad someone created a specific thread though.
It's great, I haven't played much (three arenas) but so far I'm loving the mix of combat, skating and pulling tricks. Love the aesthetic and music too, game is right up my street.

There's also a tiny bit of walking simulator in between some of the levels- nothing major, just a little bit of extra scene setting. The more I play it the more I like it. I haven't quite worked out how to get the super-big scores yet though- the 'S-rank' in this game is usually more than twice the score of the 'A-rank', so it actually means something for once.

Anyone else playing this?
I’ve managed to get a few hours in now and unlocked the second round of events. Took some getting used to utilising both the combat and trick controls together. It can get a bit bullet hell too if you don’t keep on top of the crowd management with snipers and homing missiles.
Its very cool though and I like that it has a full suite of cheat menus to help the bad-at-games get a foot in the door. I’ll admit I did have the damage turned down for awhile. But then I rarely play games on harder than normal anyway so I figure its the equivalent if starting on easy and building up.
My only real gripe is that its very easy to fall out of bounds in some arenas and that is a bit of a flow breaker. At least save that until after the first tier of matches.
