So this Capstone dungeon. Got to the final guy and then got beat down several times in a row. Thought this ain’t working out. I was close but no cigar. Is it simply a case of trawling through WT2 and incrementally increasing my build until I can take him down?

Aye, it's a gear check so best to focus on improving as much as you can. If you're almost getting through it then upgrade all of your current gear at the blacksmith and maybe look at slotting a few gems that increase resistance against whatever damage type he does (can't remember off the top of my head)

Ah. Is it one of newer games that seems to stutters on PC unless you have silly specs? As I'm sitting here with 8 GB VRAM 2070 and GPU prices are where they are PS5 it is!
Cheers dude.

Should be ok as long as you don't try to use ultra textures. DF just put up an article about it funnily enough.

Yeah, take a look at the DF vid and see if you can live with "high" textures. It's quite a drop from "ultra" which is what's used on PS5 and Series X.

I’m so tempted to get this on ps5 to go with my steam deck version, just for the textures and effects.

Missing out on Whispers because time expires while you are in there needs patching asafp. If you start the dungeon you get credit.

Seems like it might be down or at least struggling - had my first lock up and now logon is flaky. Been up since 5AM thanks to dickhead neighbours throwing a dawn rave.

My mind works in mysterious ways sometimes because playing Diablo 4 made me want to go back to Diablo 3 (also Titan Quest but let's ignore that one for the purpose of this post). It's weird but I think I like it more than I used to. Particularly the fact that you level up much faster than in its sequel and that each level unlocks something new to play with. It's also a lot more colorful and flashy but whether or not that's a good thing is up to personal preference I suppose.
Anyway, Diablo 4 is still enjoyable to me but perhaps less than I was hoping. I might change my mind once Diablo 5 comes out...

I might change my mind once Diablo 5 comes out... I know what you mean. I always just wrote off the whole genre after Diablo 2 as I assumed/convinced myself, that it was "the best". No reason to bother with all of those other games.
And what actually made me interested in ARPGs again was Dungeon Siege III, which is more of an odd variation on the genre.*
What I'm trying to say is that sometimes it doesn't take that much for a game to feel fresh and a familiar genre approached from a somewhat different angle can immediately make it more interesting and perhaps also cause weird, unexpected associations with other games. I remember that DSIII kind of made my brain appreciate those more standard ARPGs again.
*I imagine Titan Quest with its bright aesthetic was also a breath of fresh air for many. I certainly remember some comments like that.

Some good stuff from the "campfire chat" (excuse me while I throw up in my mouth) "Starting in Season 2, Gems will be included in the Materials tab." Thank fuck! Although that's bloody ages away... "Renown The team is reevaluating what Renown systems will need to be repeated as a part of new Seasons. The portion of the map that has been discovered in the Eternal Realm will remain discovered in Seasonal Realms. The Renown associated with these explorable areas will also be rewarded automatically to each new character. Similarly, Altars of Lilith that have been previously discovered will remain discovered on future characters. The Renown associated with these Altars will also be earned automatically for all new characters." www.wowhead.com/diablo-4/news/diablo-4-campfire-chat-liveblog-summary-333518

I wish I could get into Path of Exile but there’s something about it which does absolutely nothing for me. I loved Diablo 3 and Torchlight 1 and 2 though.

Path of Exile is the "I like spreadsheets" ARPG. Godspeed to the people who like that, but it is emphatically not for me.

Path of Exile must have gone through a million updates since the beginning, so it doesn't feel like I could get into it anymore. It's similar with Starcraft II for instance, but that's a game where I have been following the competitive scene since the beginning. Even so, this idea of eternal updates isn't something I particularly like. There should be a final edition at some point. Outside of compatibility stuff of course. Those kinds of patches are always great. Everything else should be left to modders. Or even better: Provide some kind of editor for the people that just want to play around with balance and such.
Wait, this is the Diablo thread, right? I'll stop with the "random things that would be cool" now.

"Currently, materials such as Veiled Crystal have a maximum storage limit of 9,999. The developers have acknowledged that this material cap limit is too small, and they are looking to increase this material storage limit before Season 1."
......what.

Why would you put it in your main inventory taking up valuable space???

Is this one of those games (like Destiny) that’s best started as soon as possible so you can grow with the game game as it develops? Is there a danger of coming to it in a year or whatever and it feeling like there’s just too much going on and everyone else being way ahead (again like Destiny)?
Alternatively is it one of those games that will be much better in a year?

The million spreadsheets thing is no longer really true for Path of Exile, it's possible to play it very casually, if you want. Biggest problem with PoE was always the opening hour, which is actually kind of nice, but very unusual for an ARPG. Most people don't like to play a shipwrecked dude that wears rags and clubs some crabs over the head with a plank that has a nail in it. But really, the long term depth of the mechanics in PoE is unparalleled. I could spend all my time in the game not actually playing it, but just theorycrafting new characters. My biggest achievement in gaming is still leveling a self-built HC character to over 80 in Path of Exile. I would probably have managed over 90 eventually, but then they sold out to Tencent

Alternatively is it one of those games that will be much better in a year? Nah, it's still very much Diablo and the base campaign is always going to be there from the main menu and not the obtuseness that is Destiny. Plus the interactions with real life people is quite minimal really apart from world events but it's not a massive part of the game. The obtuseness lies in the meta around the game not fully explaining things like Aspects and how they can be used to make Legendary items and the expansiveness of the skill tree and where's best to put your points in. I definitely think it's in a better shape than D3 ever was at launch, it's a really polished product from day one. Loving it.

Waiting a year is generally better for these types of games especially with the current state of D4. Once you've blasted through the campaign the current end game content isn't particularly great and it seems unlikely to change with the current timescales Blizzard are talking about.

Yeah, should be fine. Destiny is a confusing mess at the best of times, but this is pretty straightforward in comparison and I doubt they'll mess with the core formula too much as they've nailed that. Main things that'll change will be endgame activities, but you don't have to worry about that now.
If you do come to it later then just be sure you pick a seasonal character, as that'll be where most players move to.

I think the regular seasons thing should help it feel less like others are "ahead" of you, because each one will have everyone starting at basically zero.
I think I'll try a necromancer whenever the first one starts.

Just downloading this to play on the Steam Deck... How does multiplayer work, will I randomly find people or do I need to make friends and buddy up?
Or is the best approach to just single-player it to start off with...

Just downloading this to play on the Steam Deck... How does multiplayer work, will I randomly find people or do I need to make friends and buddy up? Or is the best approach to just single-player it to start off with... The game is multiplayer by design, you're always online. Think of it as Destiny like to a degree but still very Diablo. You'll start the campaign by default and the campaign world is inhabited by whoever is on that particular server. Overwold is populated by those players and is where the multiplayer stuff happens and the dungeons and campaign missions and side missions are purely single player. It's quite unobtrusive. If you want to search for Fontgeek in the Clan menu and request to join and we can get all partied up if you want to do that later.
