Barbarian is the most boring for me. I'm tempted with a Rogue though.

Hit lvl 25 earlier, Sorcerer. Fire & Ice build atm but am going to reroll and try some other stuff out. I’m looking to get a bit more fun out of it.
Looking to try other classes too. I was tempted to go Necromancer but it just didn’t fit the narrative hero for me.

I normally always do the rogue or equivalent, which I will do at some point, but just wondered the general feel of each class was like

I went with Rogue, just as I did during the beta. Though I feel like I was doing a lot more damage in the beta than in the full game. Kind of makes me want to try a new class, but i’ll probably stick with it.

Don't think there's a massively OP outlier so far. They've been pretty swift with nerfs so far, anyway. Just pick whatever class appeals to you the most, or just go with necro to annoy bichii.
Fireball enchantment for sorcerer is fun regardless of what kind of build you're going for. Always amusing starting off a chain reaction of mobs.

I wish there was a another level to the zoom option rather than the current default or too close.

Gah. You peasants just had to all crowd on and ruin my perfect launch experience! Had no problems at all since Friday and now it's gone to total shit. Massive loading times and getting stuck for a minute when transitioning between areas.
I knew it was too good to be true!

Gah, I should be playing this now but some screw up with msi for the seller has meant I have to wait for my key. Itching to just buy it myself.

Can’t speak for this exact moment, but apart from the maintenance queue or whatever I mentioned earlier, I had a good couple of hours last night near when it launched. Definitely not quite as smooth as the Server Slam beta but pretty good nonetheless (occasional rubber banding in town).

Seems to have settled down a bit now thankfully. Enjoyed it so much this weekend that I couldn't resist double dipping and getting it on Xbox for couch play too (which feels pretty damn good!) Bit rubbish that achievements don't seem to track across versions though. Expected loads to pop up the second I launched it

This isn't quite grabbing me (despite getting Frozen Orb at level 3!!) but I'm only an hour in. I only mention it because of the literally thousands of hours I've put into II and III over the years. Maybe I'll wait til the weekend when I can pump some proper time into it and try a couple of other classes.

I just got to the first big hub town this morning. Only maybe an hour in, perhaps a bit more. Have to say I’m really digging it so far. I’m not focusing too much on my gear or build, more going with the flow.

Aye, just roll with it for now. It can be worth doing some dungeons early on if they offer interesting looking aspects, as you can just upgrade yellow gear with those. Although with dungeons a lot of them have a side quest associated with them, so it can be worth making sure you've grabbed all side quests first to avoid having to run them again (not that missing out on a side quest is the end of the world)
Hit level 50 last night and I'm currently focussing on side quests to get renown for each area up to the third level for the extra ability points. It's crazy how much of the map you don't explore during the campaign playthrough!

I haven't really got my head around the gear and mats economy yet but I'm assuming that (i) better to dismantle all your junk for materials, don't sell it (as in Diablo 3)? And (ii) while you're still going through the campaign, spending gold to upgrade gear generally isn't worth it? just use the best stuff when it drops and dismantle just about everything you aren't using?

Crashing and rolling back a whole town across the map is pretty fucking annoying.

SpiralScratchAlways dismantle legendaries (if you're not extracting the aspect from them that is) Early on it's best to always dismantle everything unless you're desperately low on cash. As you level up the sell value of gear goes up, but the mats you get for dismantling stays the same, so best to only do that to begin with and get a stockpile of mats while it's worth FA cash money. Upgrades can be worth it when levelling if you've imprinted a max roll aspect that you really like and don't want to lose just yet. In general though, yeah just keep looking for your next item instead.

Never sell in D3 unless you needed gold to upgrade the vendors early in a season. Once they're maxed, burn everything for mats

Bought this today after seeing the digital foundry video. Playing as the Necromancer and yeah this a massive step up from D3, this is proper fucking legit. I'm amazed at how polished it is with almost every AAA game shitting the bed these days.

The town layouts are really starting to grate. Everything feels bloody miles away from everything else. In D3 everything was practically within distance of a single wizards teleport (or was that disabled in town?) In this you can't even use teleport or horsey turbo mode in town, so you're just slowly moving between your stash, the blacksmith, the oddity vendor, weapon vendors etc who are all bloody miles apart.
Teleport is bloody awful on a controller too, even if it did work.
1/10
I bet the first expansion introduces a new town with everything you need clustered together.

A few questions:
Does the town portal always take me back to the first big town? I can't assign other towns to it? Then again, if I open the map and click the waypoint of whatever town, then it takes me there anyway, so what's the point of the portal shortcut (is it just for a quick escape in combat maybe?)
How does the online thing work? I can see other players in town and when I engage in one of the Destiny like events that happen out in the wilds. I seem to be randomly stumbling across people outwith that as well, which I'd rather not have if at all possible as it kind of ruins things to turn a corner and some level 1,000,000 barbarian is already rinsing all the enemies there for me.
The fucking chat window in the bottom right, updating me when I engage a certain enemy or whatever. I don't want that shit either yet I can't seem to turn it off?
Apart from that it's... Well it's the shot in the arm I need right now. Was doing co-op with the boy yesterday (me rogue, him necro) and it was bloody superb. Can't get over how beautiful it all looks as well.

The town portal is just useful when your inventory is full. You can nip back to town flog / salvage it all and then re-use the portal to jump back to where you were in your dungeon or wherever.

Yeah, TP is just a handy quick button press to go back to the last big town you visited (don't think you can choose which one, but they're much of a muchness) If you use it in the middle of nowhere you can go back through it again to get back to where you were, so obviously better than using waypoints if you just need to quickly repair your gear or whatever.
Don't think you can turn other players off. You get bonus XP for kills when near them though, so while it might be a bit jarring it's still worth hanging around any you come across in the wild.

So will I always bump into players in the wild? Or is their proximity facilitated by any events that are near?

From what I can gather it's essentially Destiny in that hub worlds and world events will bring in real world people but dungeons and specific missions will be you only.

Ah right okay. I really should have read up a bit on this first. I'm still struggling with the fact it's like Diablo but it also isn't. Once I get my head around it it'll be fine. For now I'm like "get the fuck away from my fallen shaman you whirling cunt".

TBF it still feels like Diablo, I don't even notice the other people there, apart from the massive group of people at the Blacksmith and some random person riding a horse in a circle.

Yeah it does. The other stuff will just wash away soon enough. It's amazing.
Want to know something? I really vividly recall getting up from my desk - this SAME desk at which I now sit - to walk into town and grab Diablo 3 when it came out for the 360. Now, in my head this happened very recently. After all, not much has changed at my desk since then and I'm doing the same job so it wasn't that long ago right? RIGHT?

God I think I got D3 for the PC from Game on a whim on launch day and was just pissed off as to why I couldn't play the game I just paid for because the servers died.
