Blood is a game I feel like I should enjoy but I've only ever managed to force myself through the first episode. The constant hitscanners make it such a chore to play. I don't think the colour palette being limited to brown and grey helps either

it had to do loading screens every time you entered a building A feature they liked so much they included it in all their future games I told you it was ahead of its time! Witcher 3 was a game I didn't get on with at first, came back to it years later and it's one of my faves now. Don't know why it didn't click first time around but when it did I was obsessed.
Tried to see it all and rinsed though the DLC which were both incredible.
I'm hoping that will happen with Elden Ring. But less hopeful of that as I don't seem to click with From games.

Trying to think of a few others that aren't so obvious.
World of Goo - Ultimate indie game. Max Payne - Noir atmosphere and cool out the wazoo Mirror's Edge - If you ignore the fighting. Still looks lovely. VVVVVVV - Another perfect indie game

I don't think the colour palette being limited to brown and grey helps either Blood is pretty hard to get into, exactly for the reasons you mentioned, but if you can get used to how the cultists work, the other enemies aren't nearly as bad. As a result, the first episode feels like the hardest one, but it's a matter of getting used to the game's rules. If you do, even the cultists eventually will seem easy. As a whole, level design is pretty high quality and weapons feel different from usual. Between Blood, Shogo, NOLF, Fear, Condemned and the Middle Earth games... Monolith's brand of games is deliberately weird and usually delivers (except when it doesn't). I'm not very interested in superheroes, but I'm keeping an eye out for Wonder Woman.

Oh yeah, world of goo was a classic. Played that and N loads of times at work. I guess I should add Mame to the list too.

Still looks lovely. VVVVVVV - Another perfect indie game Max Payne would have been in my list a while back. An effortlessly cool game, with (presumably) intentionally over the top writing. Max Payne 2 was my favourite of the two at the time, but replayed both so many times as a teenager. Still enjoy Remedy games. Besides Quantum Break, they are all excellent. They seem to be expanding quite a bit at the mo, which I'm slightly wary of, but really hope it works out for them.

Thought Control was the most overrated, er, underrated game of recent times.

I think the tutorial area isn't very engaging and it's pretty long. I bounced off hard the first time before even having left that area, but the second time around I stuck with it until the good parts came about which considerably raised my appreciation for the game.

Thanks to this thread, I spent about four hours playing Destiny 2 yesterday. I've no idea what I was doing or why I seemed invincible at times, but I killed lots of alien things and eventually got motion sick, but I was a bit lost at that point as I'd not noticed the radar telling me the way to go.
It was pretty good fun. I've not played a game like that in years. I was playing the heavy weapon guy, whatever that was called. I ended up with a legendary semi auto rifle and a sniper rifle. Occasionally I'd remember I had grenades and a blue frisbee.

I liked every monolith game I've played, except Blood for some reason. NOLF and NOLF2 were great. Didn't know they were doing a wonder woman game.

I think you should get a quest called a spark of hope near the start, which gives a fun exotic arc gun as a reward. (which will be useful next season) I'm sure I'll be jumping back in soon too. There's nothing quite like the gunplay in D2. fontgeek.io/thread/69/destiny-2?page=29

I played far too much Destiny, until it dawned on me it was designed entirely to keep you playing forever, then I started thinking about all the other games that do that, then I started thinking about what I was doing with my life, then I stopped playing Destiny. I feel better these days

Yeah, it does get a bit all-consuming. No other games really get a look in at the beginning of a season for me. 1700+ hours playtime so far >_< I tend to just set goals (get seasonal title etc) and once I've hit that goal, I'm done for that season and play other stuff.
As much as I enjoy it and it's been a constant for the past 5 years for me, I'm still not sure I'd list it as an all time favourite.

Talking of Quake. Quakecon is this week isn't it? I wonder what the chances of a surprise Q2 release for consoles is, going on what happened last year with Q1.

I didn't mean it was shit. I really do like Quake 2. I just meant the new episodes Machine Games made for Quake were great additions so hopefully they'd do the same for Quake 2. I'd be well up for that

I'm kind of hoping it happens. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't do it at some point, surely, if they've already brought out Q1 they must know people will be clamouring for Q2 next. Then again, I have no idea how many actually bought Q1 last year.
