Yeah, I've got some Netgear mesh thing, which whilst entry-level, seems ok. Good shout on the channel though, will check that.

Selecting a channel with the least amount of other traffic is indeed the first thing I’d try. Where I live most people have the ISP’s router and they are all on channel 1.
5Ghz is a different matter, my router apparently switches channels at random because it’s trying to avoid radar interference?

Home plug is the easiest way around it, unless your wiring is more fucked than windows driver support.
