How was the gravy, Jambo? It was no lie, fucking lush just on the right side of saltiness. Don't get me wrong I do love living in a country with access to a lot of Mediterranean food but you can't beat a good British roast dinner. I even had a Sausage and bean melt from Greggs yesterday and I know it's terrible but my god I just don't care.

I know exactly what you mean dude. When I've had 2 week holidays, however much I've loved the cuisine I can't wait to get back to some stodge. Nowhere does it better. Well, based on a very limited understanding Ireland might.
Not a fan of the soss bean melt myself, but that's a personal preference (I hate beans)

Had the best cooked piece of chicken I've ever tasted ("pan roasted"). The skin was absolute crispy, salty perfection.

If it's not moving fast enough to get away, it's edible.

If Ecosse is still lurking about, this won't please him in the slightest, but yesterday's dinner was:
Surprisingly pleasant, all told.

I just had what loosely counts as a 'dinner' so this can go in here.
I decided to make myself some toast. Lovely seeded bread, and I decided I'd have marmite on it (This is not about loving or hating marmite). However, I managed to burn the toast. I'll live with it, I thought, and started spreading on some butter and marmite. However, I was pre-occupied with my phone and because the toast was burnt, I couldn't actually see the marmite on it, and kept spreading it thinking it wasn't on there.
This resulted in one the worst things I've eaten in a long time. Cold, burnt, toast (again, too much WhatsAp!), and what must have been maybe three or four layers of marmite. It was like licking the underside of a tugboat.
Anyway, I have a question, for any UK based marmite fans (if they exist) - have they changed marmite? As part of this unholy process, I opened a new jar, and to be honest, I don't think I've opened a new jar of marmite in about six years - I spread thin (until tonight), and those suckers last. But this new jar... I swear the marmite in it was browner than normal? Like, I expect it to look like thick inky black tar, but even sitting in the jar as an amassed entity, it was kind of a gentle brown. Is that normal now? Did they water it down? Or have I been compromised?

Or have I been compromised? As a lifelong Marmite lover- despite having a stepdad that used the stuff like nutella (he didn't eat it so had no idea. Or it was just another example of him being a cunt idk) Go for the supermarket stuff, Sainsbury only do a reduced salt version, last time I checked Tesco still do regular and reduced salt. They're much more forgiving if you use too much, spread rather than smear like tarmac and the main flavour is the same albeit less intense gram for gram. They're a bit cheaper but you need a bit more so probably balances out. All that said, it does sound like a dodgy jar.

ETA Marmite fans in the UK? Where else would we be?

Hmm, I guess it may just be the jar, or my false memories of how marmite actually looks. It tastes good enough, I just typically don't use that much so having it spread like icing on a cake was never going to be a fun experience.
I'll give the own brand options a try, when I next run out, probably sometime in 2030!

We had pretty much nothing in the house yesterday and are trying to reduce the amount of takeaways we have so we ended up with a random tea of chicken goujons with pasta in a tomato sauce we made from what we could find (chopped tomatoes, onion, courgette, garlic) and then some brocolli to add one of your 5 a day.
Sounds awful but was actually pretty decent.

Broc and courgette are ace in a tomato based pasta sauce imo. Love random dishes that you totally wing it but still turn out nice.
We've grown shitloads of courgette so I'll be doing a lot of that kind of thing.

So we are staying in Cornwall this week and fancied a takeaway curry but nowhere delivers. I think this settles any notion I had of moving to somewhere secluded.
I'd miss the simple pleasures too much.

It looks like the pizza shop is on holidays, I had thoroughly planned to do fuck all tonight and order some. Now I have to think of something I had no plans on doing. I suppose the kids can have nuggets and chips at least.
