So despite having played certain games so many times I thought I knew all their secrets, easter eggs, cut content and inner workings backwards, occasionally I still notice things and wonder how I never saw or encountered them before. Here's a few I learned over the last few days:
Mass Effect
The doors at Peak 15 on Noveria (and elsewhere) have animated movement sensors on them. You can see it here at 54:47. A flap on the door opens up to reveal two red glowies, which is a completely unnecessary detail and you'd think that they'd need to be revealed already to see people coming, but whatever. I thought it was interesting.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Vaclav Koller can get murdered by Otar Botkoveli as a "message" to Jensen. I never knew this until today, because I usually do all side content, and it's failing to do the favours for Otar that causes him to burn down the Time Machine bookshop and murder Vaclav.

Not gameplay, but it took me ages to notice the pun in Invisible, Inc.

In Far Cry 2 militiamen sometimes throw up their arms in surrender if they are caught unawares and alone. I'm pretty sure that only happens when the player's reputation is high enough.
Also took me a while to notice how the A-Life in Shadow of Chernobyl works. I vaguely knew about it, but it's an entirely different thing when you put two and two together as something is happening in the game.
Mostly I mean how various people and mutants respawn in some place other than where they are supposed to be, so that they have to walk back to their assigned area. And how that usually happens "offline" as the player is not around. So usually they can just get back to where they have to be unimpeded as they cannot fight each other when the player's vicinity doesn't make them go online.
Also just various developments I had never seen because i never stayed around long enough. In Pripyat for instance Pseudogiants eventually just show up as normal A-Life once the story is done there. Similar case with the Dark Valley as a whole lot of Spetsnaz show up and invade the bandit base after having done the Lab there.

That Half life boat thread/story will raise a smile until I die/am too senile to remember it.

If HL2 were made now, they'd have to redesign the place so the boat is UNMISSABLE.
Edit: oh, and I did try proceeding without the boat on my recent playthrough. It's really not fun and the game suddenly becomes very different.

I've been playing Star Wars: The Old Republic onceva week with a friend for the last 8 months or so, just leveling and playing the story (it's actually gone a bit crap for co-op in the latter expansions).
Anyway, I've only realised that you can use the galaxy mapn to fast travel to different planets, instead of having to run all the way back to the shuttle.
Also found some lore in Skyrim that suggests that Ulfric Stormcloak is being (unwittingly) manipulated by the Thalmor, changes the perception of the whole rebellion.

I'd say Riju secretly playing with sand seal plushies counts, considering I only just saw it in this video yesterday

No Man's Sky
The phase beam on a ship steals shield power from a target and gives it to you. Not having to recharge manually on a regular basis makes fights with lots of pirates a lot easier.

Also found some lore in Skyrim that suggests that Ulfric Stormcloak is being (unwittingly) manipulated by the Thalmor, changes the perception of the whole rebellion. I only found this out a couple of days ago - it cropped up on here or somewhere else, can’t remember now - and I had absolutely no clue before. I remember, on my initial playthrough, starting to see rumours online that he wasn’t the great “people’s hero” he was claiming to be, so I very proudly sided with the Imperials and was glad I had done so. In the light of this new information, maybe he wasn’t so bad after all..?

In the light of this new information, maybe he wasn’t so bad after all..? Whilst the dialogue is sometimes a bit meh, the underlying stories in the Elder Scrolls games are pretty interesting and can have dinner nice subtlety. There's a document in the basement of the Thalmor Embassy that details his Ulfric is being manipulated. He's listed as a "uncooperative" asset, and implies he worked with then in past but after the Malkarth incident he fell out with them, but he's still being influenced in less direct ways. Basically Thalmor want the civil war to continue indefinitely, as it makes both the Imperials and the Stormcloaks weaker. They explicitly say they don't want the war to end, and imply that will intervene on both sides to help maintain the status quo. Either side winning would not be good for the Thalmor. I can't recall what's worse for them. Or something like that. I guess my point is the political situation has a bit more depth and nuance than the sometimes wooden delivery suggests

Post-credits in Mass Effect: Andromeda, a datapad appears on the floor of the bathroom of the Tempest. It's an excerpt from a detective-noir story written by an Asari author who is also mentioned incredibly briefly as a conspiracy theorist in a planet description in ME3.

Most silencers in Necromunda - Hired Gun have different sounds based on the gun that they are installed on. Two of them on the M'MA do not do any silencing for some reason...

Can't believe I missed this before given how fucking blatant it is, but Deadshot appears in the opening scenes of Arkham City, in the line of prisoners Bruce walks past while handcuffed.
"Bruce Wayne? You're on my list." *aims finger gun at Bruce*
