Bran's story in the books is much more abstract than the others, so it didn't translate to the screen as well. I'm not sure it was really the actor's fault, when the character spends half his time in a weird dream.
the Dorn stuff has probably been gone over a lot, but they cut it down to the bone, and didn't do that good of a job with the stuff they left in. It was a lot better in the books.
While you could argue (and many have) that GRRM added a lot of filler in the later books, that filler was sometimes good, or sometimes worked as red herrings or sideshows. The tv show cut a lot of that out.. and stuck with the fan favorite characters. But that meant they were increasingly plot-armored as they were the only ones left.
Several of the side characters in the books worked as a foil for that. They got built up as possible main characters, or as interesting characters, and then when they got killed / screwed over it kept that feeling that anything might happen.
Basically, if you kill off half your main cast in the early seasons, you *need* to introduce some decent new characters later otherwise you're very limited on options for the remaining cast. (though they could still have killed off Bron and Varys and a few other fan favorites to at least keep the same effect).

Ah great, a show featuring the most boring character. I didn't actually hate the last season. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't great, it was rushed and patchy but I can't say I was angered like many, found enough of it enjoyable to get by. If we're talking about Daenerys being a villain they telegraphed that seasons earlier. Can't see how it won't be in the books as well. I didn't mind any of the story beats, and the books will, if they're ever actually finished, file the range general arc. Dany becoming the villain was telegraphed, I had no issue with that. But the transition from hero to villain just felt a bit rushed. Which is the basically the biggest issue the last couple of seasons have. Everything felt a bit rushed and underwritten. Like there were scenes missing between the big set pieces, all the more interesting characters moments were lost as they had to shoe horn all the BIG MOMENTS in. Basically watching CGI dragons piss about with CGI zombies really isn't that interesting. Frankly the White Walkers were never the most interesting part of the show, the more high-fantasy elements were always a bit boring. But they obviously wanted to get a load of spectacle into the show, at the expense of making the characters interesting. And even though most of the characters had fuck doll to do that seemed unwilling to just kill anybody off, so the survivors had really pointless arcs. When the did actually stop faffing around with boring CGI, and gave the charay time to breath, like in the second episode, it was still pretty engaging. They could have done with more season 1 style battles where the character just gets knocked out so we don't have to watch it.

(though they could still have killed off Bron and Varys and a few other fan favorites to at least keep the same effect). it wasn't even plot armour keeping most of the characters alive, as they had basically finished their arcs and contributed nothing but surviving. I mean Brienne had an interesting narrative, but then by not dying she ends up being a bit of a wet lovesick blanket pining over Jaime. Which is a terrible disservice to the character.

I'd just say the books get progressively shitter and therefore so did the show, though it kept going longer as it cut the really boring and stupid shit out of the books.

I don't think they ever managed to really top Hardhome.

That's disappointing. As others have said, Jon grew to be one of the most boring characters in the cast.
As for GoT itself, I'd definitely take more. The House of Dragons looks interesting enough. Alarm bells started ringing when everyone said how good Hardholme was. I thought it was shite. That said, there were some absolutely solid episodes after that. Battle of the Bastards, Danny fucking decimating King's Landing, Cersei's trial and the her wild firing KL, Danny Vs Jamie... Just a shame the writing largely fell off a cliff

George is involved with the series. Helping write the sequel to a book series he hasnt finished. George will do anything not to finish those books lol. Supposedly Kit helped pitch the idea so certainly sounds like it's gonna happen.

White Walkers in the first episode were great. Such a shame it didn’t build on it beyond the slow methodical shuffle South.

"...under the working title ‘SNOW’" I hope the theme tune is Informer. Billy Idol - Wight Wedding should be a shoe in: Hey little Azor, what have you done Hey little Azor, who's the only one Hey little Azor, who's your dead woman Hey little Azor, who's the one you want Hey little Azor, Dragon It's a nice day to Stark again It's a nice day for a wight wedding
