What spirits are people using? Im finding all of their summons basically useless. The weapon coating is useful for countering bosses affinities, if the boss lets you actually attack it, but thats about it. I'm still using the earth one and save it for when the boss is about halfway. Then I just use it's special attack and melt the bosses posture, getting a crit and sending him on his merry way to the afterlife.

It's special attack??? Spirits have attacks you can use? ??

FWIW allies are good during missions and you should be using them anyway to build bond for their armour. They also supposedly get stronger at bond 5 so maybe that helps.
Haven't used one against a boss yet (well, technically the blindfolded boy, but not with a healthbar and such).

Speaking of the first boss, does the post-battle cutscene change if you kill him without using the Spirit or do you summon it anyway?

It was in a tutorial quite early on. It literally appears on screen what you have to press. Two buttons activite it's buff, and the other two activate it's special attack.

Oh well. . Got this far without it. Next time I'm on I'll have to check out the attacks! I assume I've always just activated it's buff move. I never did the tutorial as you can tell.

The only reason to use them is to get the weapons and armour. I keep choosing the fire stat guy to try and get his gear and I think hes up to level seven and is still, basically, worthless. The only thing they are good for is giving enemies chi when they stand there letting enemies kick the shit out of them. I did a level where a city is on fire yesterday and the idiots spent 90% of the time ablaze because they cant avoid environmental hazards. They are honestly more trouble than they are worth. You can give them vague orders to stop them standing around with their fingers up their arses but that does get wearing.

They are also cluttering everything up and in general just subtracting more than they are adding to the game. I'm going all in YOLO and solo.

B+Y: Summon Divine Beast X+A: Divine Beast Power Up
Fun fact, during the first boss fight, I didn't summon the beast, because I missed the NPC dialogue instructing me to...

So do I summon it then press X and a or is it one or the other?

So do I summon it then press X and a or is it one or the other? One or the other. You can see what each spirit does (and in both of the two "modes") in the battle preparation menu at the flags.

bichii2 One or the other as UncleLou says. To be honest, I don't think I've seen the Beast do actually damage to a boss (but it could be due to the whole mayhem most boss fights cause), so I mostly use the power up more...

As you can all tell from my posts I've barely looked in the menus. . Think I have random armour on that looks cool from about 4 levels ago and haven't leveled it up. I did put some lightening buffs on them though.

Weapon buffs (flame, lightning etc) barely last long enough for my liking - any way of increasing their duration?

And you can add duration buffs to your gear at the blacksmith. Ive got burn accumulation and effect duration on most of my gear and they fry a lot quicker and longer.

This really is so so good. I easily prefer it to the nioh games and I really liked them. Currently enjoying the fact that invaders seem to have no idea how to fight. I must be at least 10-0 now. I'm sure that will soon change and I'll be getting destroyed once everyone has fancy builds set. Just completed a main mission without a single death. That Lu bu level was an odd spike Vs the next two levels.

Finally had a invader who knew the combat. The negative was the fight lasted about 5-10 mins . I learnt when you get a parry in you can pull off one hit before they can parry you back. The trick is getting their spirit down. Helps when they do things like spells then attack you, if you get a parry or two in at that point they get stunned.

That’s seven times now. I wouldn’t mind but they are all doing the thing where they try and kite you into enemies, so I just wait until they get bored enough to fight me and I kill them. Meantime hours pass. Yawn.

Sounds like I did good to disable invasions before I'd even killed my first enemy then

Well that's awesome. Took me ages to best him.
Is there a big difference between y/triangle attacks and martial arts??? They both make the same sound and both drain spirit.
