Alien game time again! It's single player but squad based this time, looks to be a top-down shooter from the gameplay at the end of the trailer. It's out in 2023 on PC and all the Xboxes and PlayStations.

In Aliens: Dark Descent, command a squad of hardened Colonial Marines to stop a terrifying Xenomorph outbreak on Moon Lethe. Lead your soldiers in real-time combat against iconic Xenomorphs, rogue operatives from the insatiable Weyland-Yutani Corporation, and a host of horrifying creatures new to the Alien franchise.
You are the commander. They are your weapon.
Infiltrate large open levels and annihilate enemies with your squad, dispatching orders strategically and intuitively at the touch of a button. Tread carefully, as death is permanent and your foes will adapt their tactics to your actions while hunting you down. Forge unique paths for survival, uncovering shortcuts, creating safe zones, and setting up motion trackers in a persistent world where your actions impact levels forever.
Customize your squad with a selection of different classes. Level up and specialize your soldiers with unique abilities and an arsenal of weapons, armor, and perks, for high stakes missions in treacherous territory. Develop your base to research new tech and improve your squad even further.
Manage your resources wisely and take calculated risks to outsmart the deadliest creature mankind has ever faced. Can you and your squad stop the outbreak before it’s too late?
Face off in a gripping original Alien story against iconic Xenomorph creatures ranging from Facehuggers to Praetorians, Alien Queens and many more, including rogue human commandos and a brand-new threat unique to this Alien storyline
Lead strategically and change squad tactics from mission to mission, carefully managing your soldiers’ health, resources, and sanity, to avoid permanent team losses and mental breakdowns
Forge unique paths for survival in a persistent world, uncovering shortcuts, creating safe zones and setting up motion trackers to stay one step ahead of these creatures
Assemble and level up squads composed of 5 starting Marines classes, with dozens of specializations, unique abilities and weapons.

Kind of funny that Not-Isolation-2 has the same subtitle as Amnesia, though.

From the very brief glance we saw of actual gameplay, I assumed it was going to be a top down co-op shooter, like The Ascent or Helldivers. Surprised it is actually single player and tactical, but sounds a better fit for an Aliens game, particularly if they want to emphasise the tension element.
Could be good, could be terrible, could be average. With so little game play footage, who knows.

This popped up, mix of cutscene and gameplay footage. And it's actually a real-time (with slomo), isometric-ish tactical game, that seems to blend everyone's guesses so far. Not a straight shooter, not turn based/pausable, not really what I expected, but intriguing. Thought it was an expansion/DLC for that coop shooter, but then I remembered this thread.

Could be cool, but I worry it's going to get repetitive, and that the requirement for everything to be dark, and for aliens to jump out infront of you is going to make tactics rather moot.
Kinda like the Space Hulk game that was also fine, but got repetitive as you basically had to use the same tactics the entire time.

You mean Tactics?

No, the one before that. But I assume tactics is the same. Basically move forward and overwatch everything. But with a limited number of troop types, weapon types, upgrades, terrain types and enemy types.

I actually liked the modern Space Hulk tactical game, but it's true that enemy variety could be kind of a let down for people unfamiliar with Space Hulk. There were only 2 enemies, and one of them you saw very rarely and not at all in some missions.
Also, there was something wrong with the random numbers generator. Some bug could trigger a string of consecutive bad rolls that was so long that it is very unlikely it was just bad chance.

Yeah, I mostly enjoyed the one before (i think it was just called Space Hulk?) but it basically *was* Space Hulk the board game, and that's great fun when you play a match or two with your mate, but kinda repetitive when you play 20 matches in a row against AI.
I worry an Aliens X-Com will have similar issues, although they should at least be able to do stuff with cover, and maybe things like welding doors etc..

I know it's a different palette of enemies to paint with, but I wonder if Gears Tactics gives us some hope there? That's also a fairly one-note collection of bad guys and it was plenty entertaining. You can also play with the environment somewhat: a facility with a defence system that's gone awry, so you have to take that down whilst also juggling Xenomorphs, etc. etc.

This is out this week. I'm tempted, given the price. Anybody else going to bite?
The only thing stopping me is playing such a dark game during the summer. Will have to blackout curtains or something

It's tomorrow. I'm tempted, reviews being good. I think I'm in for FF16 so I'll only get a short time on it before that launches, and then I'll have to come back to it later. It's cheap though.

Must play the ff16 demo too. That might sway things a bit.
I'd have thought this type of game would have been perfect for a demo.

I'm surprised the reviews for this aren't out yet, given that it's due imminently.

I think the embargo is tomorrow. I was looking for the date earlier and couldn't find it, but I know review copies were sent out a while back.

damagedincQuite possibly! (Probably? Possibly.) Release-date embargoes aren't *always* bad - Doom 2016, anyone? - but they don't exactly exude confidence on the part of the publisher, to say the least. Focus tend to publish games of the 6-or-7/10 'Eurojank' variety, and that's what I'm expecting here.

That was certainly true in the past, but I do think they’ve improved their image as of late. Between the Warhammer 40K Space Marine stuff, to A Plague Tale, to titles like Evil West and Dordogne… they may not be a AAA publisher yet, but they’re one of the more interesting AA publishers out there, IMO.

Saw a more detailed trailer this morning, tempted. Seems it's built around a home hub, going out into several locales, completing objectives and having permenance based on your actions - if you cut open some welded door for a hasty exit last time, watch out for attacks from it the next time you go in, taking time to kill extra enemies might equal an easier fight next visit etc, so seems quite good.
Saw the APC being used to ferry between areas, and the sub-species return, bull aliens battering doors in shown, so yeah, it's looking perfectly fine for the price, but possibly better as sale fun. Reminds me of the SOCOM Tactical Strike offshoot on the PSP, and I loved that.

@spookyxelectric
Yeah, I'd agree with that.
I suppose I was thinking back a bit further - Bound by Flame, Styx, The Technomancer, Vampyr - and not giving credit where it's due for their more recent releases.

Hub world with missions and persistence sounds good.
I only need to know one thing...Where. They. Are.
