The Game Informer cover makes the art somehow look even more F2P game.
I didn't know I needed Ming-Na Wen as an elf until now, but... yes.
Curse of the new page strikes again, FFS...

I'm not a fan of the visuals at all, but what bothers me more is the tone they've chosen - this is supposed to be a fantasy RPG, so why are they introducing the characters as if it's an Overwatch-style hero shooter? My (perhaps naively optimistic) take on that is that they're trying to show that they've put together a crew of strong, distinct characters in the vein of Mass Effect 2. This makes me hopeful that the game will play towards BioWare's strengths. As someone who has played all three previous games and enjoyed them but isn't really invested in the franchise, the trailer did enough for me, I'm interested to see more.

Look, I'm keeping an open mind, I would like for this game to not be rubbish.
But really, it's going to be rubbish isn't it.

It's going to be rubbish.
The character intro stuff reminded me of Borderlands personally, but it doesn't (and shouldn't) have that same kind of facetious magic. It was a very odd choice.

That looks shite, going to need to see a gameplay trailer because if it didn't have the Dragon Age name I'd have not even finished watching.

Its because that is what the industry is currently obsessed with and will copy that trend to death or some producer loves that art style and will force into everything they can.
If someone took out the dragon age name and it said it was fantasy RPG Overwatch-style hero shooter. you would believe them. (also I really think this is the art style for the main game), complete with quippy badly written character lines in game

Not about to judge it on the back of a terrible CGI trailer. There is quite a bit of pressure on bioware to get this one right though so hopefully the gameplay reveal is better.

They love these trailers but they can't match the charm of Overwatch's character trailers. The initial reveal trailer of Overwatch still holds up as it tells a story and has charm. Too many of these trailers opt for the MCU-esque quippy dialogue between selfish assholes that it's boring a few years ago, nevermind now.

*fondly remembers when everyone was complaining that the Overwatch character trailers couldn't match the charm of the TF2 character trailers*

I'll not judge until I see some gameplay but like most I'm a bit concerned about the tone. Fingers crossed for Bioware.

Watched the trailer without knowing what it was for. I did not expect it to be Dragon Age until the title came up, even though I suspected it would be part of the Xbox show. Half way through, I thought that might be a D&D game, trying to ape the tone of the recent film.
Never been a big fan of the series to be honest. Only played the first one, which I couldn't get on with due to my inability to play games using real time with pause (even tried it again not too long ago and found I really loved the world and storytelling, but the combat felt even more impenetrable than I had found it the first time). Second game got terrible reviews, so I skipped it. Then the third came along at my peak antipathy for open world games and it sounded like it was going all in with the map icon chasing.
Still, I could be interested in a fourth game. It is a series I should like, being an RPG that focuses on world building and storytelling. This trailer didn't do much for me though.

A fair comment.
Still, the fact remains that someone - be it BioWare or EA's marketing department - chose to make this trailer in the first place, before using it as the game's big re-reveal. Given all the pressure you mention, that seems like a poor decision.
Of course, it may be that the trailer's actually a perfect representation of the game itself, which would be an even worse call! Guess we'll find out tomorrow afternoon.

Trying to think, when was a time when the trailer for a game was completely at odds with what the actual games tone is like?
Reading from people who have played it say the trailer is completely at odds with what the game is like, so one to watch out for I suppose!

EA will certainly be hoping for a better reception of the gameplay considering that shitty trailer is currently at 28K up and 122K down on YouTube.

That trailer does look rubbish. If it turns out they've turned it into a heist based immersive sim then it's suddenly interesting, otherwise I'm in the Bioware are doomed camp.

I read that it's supposed to be a heist based RPG but yeah I'm being overly cautious but they really really really need this to be a success with how long they've spent on it.

Overwatch is exactly what came to mind when I watched the trailer. I've never played Overwatch so I can't point to anything specific, that's just the way it feels.
I'm willing to meet Bioware halfway here, they can put as many obnoxious sub-Marvel characters as they like in the game, there will be no complaint...
As long as they allow me to remove any character from the party, via a parting of ways or the much more satisfactory route of assassination. I'll clear the game solo if I have to. I was already doing something like this when I revisited Origins, rejecting or ignoring every potential recruit I could.

Yeah do a real innovative game that's janky but interesting. I'm thinking a party based heist immersive sim. Where you can switch between characters in real time, you give everyone some tasks to do (maybe you can switch between them), and the AI deals with the companions doing their part properly. Then at the end it cuts it all together Guy Ritchie style, but voiced by Varric. You've got to plan it all like clock work so the alarms are switched off at just the right moment. Chuck in some Sands of Time rewinding time until you get the absolutely perfect run. Based on an actually innovative new use of AI idea. It'd inevitably be buggy but could make people sit up and take notice.

Well that looked graphically nice, as much as you can make out on a small screen.

Those 24 seconds did more to whet my appetite than yesterday's two-minute trailer.
At this point, my best hope is that the trailer was an anomaly. You know how Bloober Team seemed as mystified as we were by the Silent Hill 2 trailer that Konami showed off earlier in the year? Well, maybe BioWare are every bit as perplexed by the way EA chose to market Dreadwolf The Veilguard yesterday.

That's why I hate these kind of CGI trailers that tell you fuck all about the game and create the wrong impression. I really think gaming needs to move away from the ethos of trying to emulate the movie industry. Give us a trailer of actual gameplay. If you've got nothing to show then don't show anything.

Even a 50/50 split would be a big improvement. I get you don't need one for a diablo expansion as you know exactly what it will be but for something new I think they need to stop the full CGI.
