It’s clearly still Frostbite, but BioWare has certainly gotten better at utilizing it. I’m been waiting for another big budget AAA party based fantasy role playing game. I like The Witcher and Elder Scrolls and things of that nature, but it does get lonely being a one man army.
But the “it’s time for a new hero” seems redundant in this case, since every DA has had a new protagonist. Although it’s nice to hear Varric again.

I hope Solas wins. Thedas needs to be razed to a giant ball of smoking, blackened glass.

I probably should finish origins one day. I still have my save from 2010...

I dunno. To me it seems like Chekov’s Veil. Solas wants to remove the barrier between the mundane world and the realms of dreams and magic. Fuckin’ go son, let’s see how fucked up things can get. Mortals have had it far too normal and good for far too long, let’s make them jump across floating islands and fight ghost mushrooms on the way to work each day.

The Absolution cartoon released this Friday. Watched it last night. I enjoyed it. It doesn’t make the mistake of going too adult cartoon, that is, unfunny dick joke after unfunny dick joke and gratuitous violence for shock value. There are a few moments where a character will curse, and there is a beheading, but it mostly picks its spots rather than goes over the top with it. The action scenes are good, too.
Makes me want to go back and replay DA2.

I finally picked up Inquisition, and started it tonight. I'm only a couple of hours in, but initial impressions are pretty positive for the most part (even though the combat system is miles away from what I'm used to in more action-oriented games).

I remember liking Inquisition well enough at the time, but I think it'd be pretty rough going back after I've played Witcher 3 and the like. There's ever so much bullshit fetch questing.

Don’t spend too much time in the Hinterlands. Do the necessary story quests then peace on out of there. Spending too much time there can burn a new player out with the fetch quest side content, and there’s so much more to see. The story and characters are great.

Thanks, @spookyxelectric.
I take it the Hinterlands is the opening region? Is there a specific quest for which I should look out, representing the point at which I should leave for pastures new?

Basically, as soon as they start asking the leader of the Inquisition to collect deer skins for the war effort, that is the time to nope out.

Basically, just follow the quests given. I think you’re supposed to meet a Sister of the Chantry, then you’re pretty much free to move on.
If you feel like doing anything else, look for a farm with a horse stable, just to get a mount. Then feel free to return to HQ and visit Orlais.

Also you'll be massively overlevelled if you clear everything before moving on. I know I was.

First time I finished this game, I never even set foot in 3-4 of the big empty boring zones. I enjoyed the game well enough but was pretty aghast at how unfilled the filler content was.
I tried a second play through years later where I went to those untouched zones, but it was as lame as it seemed. It’s a pity because this is a pretty fun story game in general.
Never got around to playing the DLC that’s meant to bridge Solas to the new game.
Even playing through Witcher 3 again now (for the umpteenth time) there’s a lot about that game’s systems and world that seem shallow to me now, that I wish could be filled out better. But it’s still a damn site better than DAI.

The thing that irritated me is that the game has some really cool and interesting sounding quests... that you send some other guy to do via a text box on the war table.
It's like, god damnit, I want to do those! Why am I collecting herbs?

Thanks, all.
Is there a ranged vs. melee consensus? I started out as a rogue archer, per my usual preference, but I'm finding the ranged combat to be a trifle underwhelming at present (albeit barely having scratched the surface, in fairness) - should I switch to dual-wield daggers, or stick with my bow?

Thanks, Mike - I'll give them a whirl this evening.
There's a parry skill in the dual daggers tree, I think, which certainly sounds like my bag.

I think I just used big warhammer type weapons and brute forced my way through a lot of DAI’s combat. My memory of it is being more shallow than the first two but then that’s my opinion of almost everything in DAI compared to the previous two.
I’m not a fan but essentially that boils down to it feeling to me like a solid 30 hour game with some fun character stuff padded out with 60 hours of mmo collect 10 things quests and map spam.

I tried out the dual daggers approach, and enjoyed it much more than archery; I then respecced accordingly, putting points into daggers and subterfuge.
I'm actually enjoying the war table stuff, although I was always a fan of the delegation/management missions in Metal Gear Solid V and Death Stranding, so it's not all that surprising.

My Dragon Age series main has always been a hot, red haired, green eyed dual dagger elf woman. Basically Shepherd with two daggers.
I’ve tried mixing it up but those playthroughs never make it.

I’ve now got both an Origins and Inquisition save on the go, but not touched either for months.
I need to get back into them. I do love the world. I “completed” Origins back at its initial release, but it’s my first time with Inquisitions. Never played the other (second?) one.
