Ooo interesting. Sounds bit different. How heavy is the Stardew influence? I've started Stardew twice and bounced off it both times. Something about the controls is a bit weird to me.

Time to give Robocop a go. Totally missed the hostages in the TV studio in the opening level... Just picked this up brand new from Vinted of all places for 18 quid. Looking forward to jumping in but want Astro Bot done first.

Picked up Dying Light 2.
Techland always put a lot of effort to improving and supporting their games since DL1. Heard it was buggy at launch but it plays well now. Completed the long prologue, hope to get some better weapons as having basic shit weapons in these games make it boring to play. game looks great on series x

With Rise of the Ronin done and dusted, and Veilguard still 1.5 months away, I picked up Wild Hearts for under £8 from The Game Collection. I'm hoping it (along with Balatro, which should be here by Wednesday) will keep me going until Dragon Age comes out.

Gun sound effects are great.

Steamworld heist 2 (loved the first and this is more of the same).
Astrobot, doesn't need a description
Space marine doesn't need one either!

After a couple of hours with Wild Hearts, I'm having fun - I created the ugliest character imaginable, named him Mary Poppins, and equipped the umbrella as my main weapon.
I'm definitely going to struggle with the karakuri system, though. Conjuring the devices during combat seems intuitive enough, but I always forget to do so, and I think that'll bite me in the ass before long.

So I am approaching end of Crysis 2.
Its nice game, having fun.
It's funny though how the game constantly reminds you to check and assess your tactical options
While I just put on extra armour and charge head first.
And if I don't do this I just sneak past enemies leaving them behind.
I probably miss a lot of tactical fun because of my boneheaded approach.

Space Marine 1
I hate the rocket orks. A couple will show up on a balcony somewhere, and unless you're ready and can snipe them in a few seconds suddenly you're down to 30% health. Which means you'll probably die soon and have to restart from the checkpoint that's often annoyingly far back.
This game has a bit of a problem with random sudden death. I can be doing really well, and then suddenly I'm dead or nearly dead. Then I'll replay it and get through that entire section unscathed.
It doesn't really help that there's no medkits. You heal by melee executions, which is a fun enough mechanic. But if you're getting shot from far away there's no-one to heal you, or if you come out of a battle on 5% health then you can walk down 5 corridors to the next battle, stock up on ammo at crates along the way, but probably have to do it all again because you're going into the next battle on 5% health. I wish some of the between-combat ammo crates would also heal you, or you'd just recover automatically between sections.
Still enjoying the scale. Some pretty cool worlds to walk through. But the restarting is starting to wear me down, and the sudden prevalence of rocket orks is *not* helping with that.

Neon White
It's absolutely brilliant. Gutted it's nearly over.
Not had this much fun with first person movement since my Unreal Tournament days playing the bunny track mod twenty years ago.

Feel like I'm just enjoying gaming at the mo. Managing a wee sesh before bed and a wee sesh before I head out in the mornigns and just playing what I feel like, so jumping between games.
One thing I am consistently playing though, and surprising myself with just how much I am enjoying it, is The Sinking City. Getting really far as I've unlocked more guns and got a fair amount of skill, so it's getting easier to get through monster encounters now. I've more often than not got loads of ammo and healing so it's not as annoying as it was early game. it's surprisingly engaging and the sanity stuff still freaks me out after all this time.
It's really cool and if anything I'm slightly annoyed at myself for abandoning it much earlier on quite some time ago.

Warhammer Tacticus
First time I've played a mobile game in ages and after a fairly lengthy tutorial, it suddenly throws all of the usual bollocks at you. It's pretty damn basic so far and you can just brute force your way through most encounters with upgraded characters, but at the same time it's scratching an itch.

I wish some of the between-combat ammo crates would also heal you, or you'd just recover automatically between sections. Interestingly skillup had a very similar complaint about SM2. Apparently in coop it even leads to the players competing for melee executions.
Personally I have gone back to Far Cry 2 and I'm now mostly speeding through story missions. There shouldn't be too many story missions left over.
Also another run through Bloodlines. Tremere this time. I haven't run into too much that is specific to that clan, but at least the regent had some proper dialogue. I'm mostly going with Thaumaturgy and Persuasion with Research thrown in.

It also leads to some comedy/frustrating moments when you accidentally kill the last couple of orks and you go "Bloody orks, stop dying so I can kill you!"

I think healing/reloading through executions is fine in a single player game (Gears Tactics kind of did that). But actually competing for them is a weird dynamic.

It's a decent enough mechanic when it works as intended. More interactive than just picking up medkits. But in SM1 it has some weird interactions with other parts of the game. Or maybe I'm just not good at it. Eg: - There are sections of the game that are mainly ranged combat, and afaik there's no way to heal in those. - A lot of the orks need to be combo'd to be able to stun them to be able to execute them, but it can be hard to know if they're already damaged, so the first hit of your combo might just kill them outright. - If you're fighting any of the big Nobs then you need to combo them to even hurt them, but most of the combos also do area effect damage. So taking down that dangerous Nob who knocked you down to 10% health might also take out all the surrounding orks who could have healed you. - Your AI squadmates don't do a lot of damage, but they have a bit of a tendency to get in the last hit on wounded orks. - There are a lot of environmental explodey things which can also accidentally take out those last orks you were going to use to heal.
It's the ranged/combo thing that's the main issue. Not gamebreaking, but just kinda annoying and timewasting.
Hopefully SM2 has fixed or reduced some of these things a bit, at least in singleplayer.

The Skyrimming* in Wild Hearts is really something else. As long as you can climb on top of a piece of the environment - even if it looks as though there are gaps into which you'd logically expect to fall - you can just walk/jump across it to your heart's content. Sometimes you'll just be walking on thin air. It's all a bit janky, but in a charming way. * Fun fact: this term does not refer to the act of tonguing someone's ringpiece in an aeroplane (although said misunderstanding does explain why I was banned for life from E3).

I'm playing the old WH40K: Chaos Gate again. I only installed it to make a screenshot for the guess the game game thread, but I thought "let's just play the first two missions, what could go wrong"? And now I'm hooked again.

FF7 Remake Intergrade. Have had it for ages but never got around to investing the time into and now i have a lot of time on my hands. Yeah, it's pretty good looks really nice and it doesn't do anything revolutionary but it doesn't have to. Liking it a lot.
